The trick for mowing the taller trees is, run it over and push it down and keep going until the tips and top is under the deck fully. Then while it's still under, back up and the deck pulls the top back and forces the middle of the tree to bow up under the deck where the blades can now reach it. Sometimes I have to do this twice, as sometimes the first pass will only cut the top half of the tree into mulch. Thanks for the video and the history of Ventrac.

Because he's real. Joe is just a guy , a guy that likes to do stuff and make things. His videos are not perfect, and I think that's part of the charm. I've been following my man since the first water wheel. I'm pretty pleased he does not stop ever 3 minutes to tell me about raid shadow legends.

1:11:43 is an Anderson connector often used for powering things off DC, you find them on DC battery packs, refrigeration in caravans, and basically anything that needs a decent amount of DC power. My guess is a grass pickup or lights or something. Maybe to keep the battery charged over winter? Edit: yeah, you're probably right about the salt spreader thing.

When you go forward and then backward over the same path it is like you said mowing it twice, but it mows in the opposite direction on the way back cutting more efficient the heavy brush and trees.
Same when you only go forward, but look at the path you took and notice the direction the brush is pushed toward and don't keep mowing it in the same direction, come back on a different pass and now mow it in the opposite direction. You can drive forward the whole time, just when you turn around come back over the path you just took that way you get it in the opposite direction now, it will grab that shit up faster and more clean cut.

I would toss the tires & go down to 3&3 front & 3 & 3 rear, almost as good as a tank tread. 1 bc it is cooler 2 bc it will lower the ht center of gravity a bit& 3 bc taller thin tractor type tires vs wider tires will give far better torque grip results. So when u r done it shouldn't b as wide a width but still hve 3 small thin no air tires per corner. If u go taller tires then u hve to make deck drop down more problem.

The B43G is not the exact same as a Performer 20, but once you hear an Onan twin run, you'll wonder why you have a Kohler twin. Keep the broom holder and just shorten it to clear the hood.
And yes, I've looked at both Steiners and Ventracs and would get one. Do yourself a favor and if possible, try and locate a set of carbide insert blades for the deck. They will cut the trees better and stay sharper longer.
1:01:00 Try backing a Gravely 24-G up the hill backwards. You might be in for a surprise if the tires are on correctly for that purpose. Reason why, because most of the weight of a 24-G or most of the other Gravely 4 wheel tractors is on the rear. Gravely used rear mounted engines and cast iron transmissions. To put a mower deck on in the middle, you'd either lift the tractor over the deck or drive the tractor over the deck.

It if only fair to show the firm that bought u out your newest ideas & give them right of refusal if they want to pony up & back this project or work to improve the basic idea on there own yet u can compete directly in market w/your old last yrs design corp same as any1 else.

I haven't read all the comments. Possibly this has be addressed. You are horsing around with heavy equipment and what are you wearing on your feet? Flip Flops. I can see a trip to the emergency room in your future. A severed toe, or severely lacerated. I have numerous pieces of equipment. Steel toed boots, heavy duty work pants, leather gloves when appropriate, ear, eye and head protection. Good luck. At 43:43 in your video, you are lifting a belt cover over the mower and there are your feet exposed waiting for an accident, a bee, maybe a snake, a nail in the grass or dropping something..

@@JoeMalovich Find yourself a Gravely Professional or Commercial 12 two wheel tractor also. Although Gravely has stopped making them they are still around and so are their attachments. They will go where that Steiner can't even go. Funny thing about that is with duals on a Professional 8, it can mow over swampy ground where I sank in walking. The Gravelys were first designed and built in WV so they were designed for working on hills. They were the Swiss Army knife of two wheel tractors and the military even air dropped some modified version of them into jungles for cutting landing strips. This will give you an idea of what the can do. www.stevenchalmers.com/Gravely/S200A/11and12.shtml
