I totally agree with you guys. I own a pair of HT1003 pairing with my KEF Q750. Blending is top notch. you won't feel the subwoofer in music. "Disappeared". in movies, it pushes hard and gives necessary slam. I use it 15 by 15 feet room and works perfectly well.
Thanks for the helpful review. I also enjoyed the banter and camaraderie between two good friends...Keep it coming!
Loved the Q&A format. Great review! I have a pair of these running with a pair of Vandersteen 1ci and they blend perfectly. They’re incredibly musical.
Thank you I was trying to decide between the ht and t/i and have convinced me to get the HT on my budget. I'm 80% movies 20% music
Excellent video, love the Q&A style.
Was tossing up the SB1000 but wasn't able to get a demo as the shops malfunctioned lmao.
They instead showed me the REL HT 1003 and 1205 which knocked my socks off for the price point, when I'd honestly only just heard of the brand shortly before.
After thinking about the room size I was trying to fill (for my PC in an odd empty space to the side of a large living area) I decided to go with the 12" and oh boy was I not let down.
It hits amazing lows with enough oomph to rattle my eyeballs while still somehow maintaining its' composition enough to be incredibly smooth without distortion.
This was my first "audiophile" type purchase, so I've never had a sub intergrate so subtly with my setup before, even though it can certainly provide one heck of a kick.
Have the xover set at around 90Hz to intergrate with a pair of Audioengine A2+ which I use for my PC that begin to roll off at 80Hz, which I've had to EQ sans some of the low end so the sub still does its' job as I unfortunately found out I was not a big fan of the A2+'s standard sound signature without some tuning,
Still have my rel strata 3 from 2002 powering my music to this day. Awesome.👍
Two Rel G1’s do a fine job for home theater bass sound and amazing for music.
I bought one after watching your review to replace the Def Tec 10 inch sub I have been using with my LRS. Very good match with the LRS crossover set at 60 hz volume set about 20 percent . The sub is set up between the LRS against the wall , sounds perfect you can get down on your hands and knees in front of the sub and NOT hear it all the bass seems to be coming from the LRS. Quite amazing and quite a compliment to such a huge improvement in preformance . The Maggies are full range now. Great review guy's.
Interesting that the HT1003 paired well with the LRS. I am waiting for my LRS to be shipped and was going to pair it with the HT 1205 for movies and light music
@@peerguy I'm use the LRS for 2 channel music listening only and find the 10 inch sub is very fast and smooth. If you turn it off while listening you only notice a little lack of punch in the kick drum and of coarse you will loose the very low bass . Upright and electric bass still sounds good without it on but when turned back on it gives you more snap and fullness but you cannot tell it's not just coming from the LRS. This replaces a Def Tech 10 inch sub and is lightyears better in every way , very happy with my sound. Quite impressive actually it sounds amazing.
I bought a pair of HT 1205 a few months ago. They have been incredible! They are overkill honestly but they are loafing even at high volumes. Pretty amazing how well they blend even with the Focal Solo6 Be studio monitors. I need to put a high-pass crossover on them as they discussed in this video. Currently getting down to 18 Hz audibly!
Have you tried a Focal sub with the Solo? Your comment is quite an endorsement because I have enormous respect for the Solo.
@@duythai5442 I have not tried that one. It does have the advantage of XLR inputs and high pass XLR outputs. Specifications show the RELs play way lower frequencies plus you can buy two for $100 less.
Nice , the driver looks exactly like my Triad Omnisub 12 driver just smaller . Excellent review !
I dont know if they sell in the USA but I am a big fan of a company in the UK called BK electronics. They used to build subs and amplifier units for REL but parted ways some time ago. They sell direct on line and make great subs at great prices. I use a pair of Double Gem subs in my music system each with twin 10 inch drivers and a 300watt amp. The drivers are arranged vertically so the cabinet shape works well in a music context or if you have limited floor space. Two of these can be had delivered for less than £800 here and they sound great to my ears.
They also do a monster and very heavy Monolith plus sub which is delivered on a pallet, has great cabinet work, a 500 watt amp, 12 inch ported driver and works very well for movies. They all have high and low level inputs but I agree with those who say that high level inputs are not inherently better. They are just convenient for those stereo amps which dont have pre outs or a sub output.
Do a review of the double gems please!
I have one for music and I love it! 🥰
Very helpful and insightful.
THANKS GREAT REVIEW
I think two are far better than one regardless of room size !
Perfect video. Thank you.
You guys look cute together. Anyway, I really appreciate your review. So helpful that I bought one to match with my Vanatoo Transparent One Encore Desktop Speakers. I think you should review them.
Thanks for this review , I just bought one of these and I am really happy /
JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CABLES AND CONNECTIONS DO YOU RECOMMEND ? I USE NOW CINCH STEREO CONNECTION / I AM LISTENING TO MUSIC MOST OF THE TIME ... THANKS IN ADVANCE !
Real control for music, especially at higher SPL, requires lots of power and servo controlled in my experience. Always surprised more subs are not servo controlled. To this day, not heard a sub that beats my 20 year old Velodyne HGS. I'm sure they exist, but I have yet to hear it.
i dont think you do need servo if you design it well, like any sub, the trick is to create highly controlled excursion which is more a factor of good physical driver construction, plus servo designs usually have an additional coil adding to the mass OR they feedback the current (proportional to velocity) in velocity feedback systems. Problem with many of these subs is they make the box size too small, so when they adjust the equalisation you end up with massive excursions at low frequencies, I have built large subs with minimal equalisation which sounded relatively brilliant because they were well within their excursion boundaries and hence lower distortion.
great stuff guys, keep up the great work. million subs in your future!!
When they are 90 years old?
I was flip flopping between this and the RSL speedwoofeer 10s and just pulled the trigger on a pair of RSL before this video came out.
let me know how it goes !
I owned a pair of those RSL's. Great subs for the money. I've also owned plenty of subs as a baseline to compare them with. They have a good blend of speed & power to make them versatile for a music/movies/gaming setup or whatnot.
Just saw a Denon PMA A110 at the back. Hope to see a review of that unit soon.
And the driver is carbon fibre also, i think like 60% i have the 1205 i love it and i got it on sale for £449.00 on sale brand new delivered amazing deal considering they are still £799.99 from Rel
Great review. Do you guys think I could get the best of both and get a t5i and a ht1003?
I’m currently in REL hell, as I try to guess which sub to go with for my 20 by 20 by 15 (height) space. Mostly my error, as I’m coming from a ported 8”, 125 RMS, PSB sub, which properly filled the aforementioned space. I’ve tried the T5x & T7x. The resolution that the T Series offers is unmatched, I’m guessing, as my Peach-tree D5’s never sounded better. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for movies, as they just couldn’t deliver, IMHO. The T9x is a little too rich for my blood financially, so I’m now thinking to try a 1205 ($700) or a 1003 ($550).
Conclusion: Went with a Rythmik 12FVXSE (piano black, ported). Love it.
I would like to hear your review of Rhytmik 12" subwoofers... In music mostly, but home theater as well. I would like to know about attack, tonality...
I have the Rel T/9i and Elac Vela bookshelves courtesy of you Jay! thanks :) ps. heard all the Ti's and the T9i is a totally different beast worth hearing for sure. Improved my Vela's midrange massively
Guys I have Rel ht1205 and let me tell you that if you loved 1003 you will be blown away by the 1205 it is a beast. And by the way I’ve also listen to ht1508 and that is just a monster when it’s called for and a gently giant in quieter scenes waiting to shake your foundations.
And also would like to add that I run my 1205 on an average Denon av receiver, and when I took it to a hifi store to test Arcam avr850 I could not recognise my subwoofer, because it sounded so much cleaner, tighter more refined, detailed and controlled. I thought my 1205 sounded excellent on my Denon, but when I heard it on an Arcam I had a big grin on my face and now feel even more proud to be owning my sub. I hope this helps guys.
- what do you mean? This is usig LFE input and has its own amp. What does Denon or Arcam make any difference?
I know that they have their own amps but have you not heard or read any expert review on av receivers stating how tight the bass is or what ever they think of the bass signal being passed on to the subwoofer. Plus I know my subwoofer for a year now and it sounded much better and.
@@rayking507 - room acoustics
Yes it matters hugely, but i cannot believe you never come across expert knowledge on av’s with difference on bass effect (with active subwoofer).
@@rayking507 - I think what you are referring to is the LFE crossover frequency rolloff. That would make sense from one amp to the other.
Great review. Thinking of the new rel ht mk2 series. Either the 1003 mk2 or the 1205 mk2 . My room is 168 sq feet then.
Like I said before. A 12in sub on 300 watts true clean rms. That can perform 20hz flawlessly. Is the minimum for my taste. But in order to achieve that you have to spend quite a bit more from REL
I got the HT1205 at the end of 2021 to replace my SB1000 Pro and I was surprised at the difference, that thing is so controlled and just sounds better overall than the SVS.
Mind you I'm in an apartment so I don't play them loud, I turned this up really high for fun and walls at the opposite corner of my 4 1/2 start rattling, and that's why I'm glad this sub is so great for low level music and moderate level home theater volumes.
Don't get me wrong the SB1000 Pro is great, but it seems bloated in comparison. I've been spoiled by this sub, I think I'd rather sell the SVS than keep it as a sub for my secondary system and replace it with a 2nd HT1205 I can use in a dual setup (before the prices go up again) if and when I can ever buy a home in this crazy housing market.
I feel the same as you. Got the 1205 and sb2000 on demo and i dont know how to put it because the sb2000 is very nice but the rel just sounds punchier..cleaner.. more refined. If you want constant rumble well go svs... If you want refined bass when bass is needed..get a rel
Great review! Thanks guys. Do you think it would be a good match for Harbeth Compact 7's. I know fast is good, but, can the speed ever be too much for some monitors?
The best review on CZcams: : well, in my opinon...it works. Ha ha!
Wow that is the same metal frame and magnet on my Energy 10 inch subs
Thanks. I see that you have reviews for SVS and REL. I'm choosing between the higher end subs from those two brands and the Rythmik servo sub woofers. Do you have any experience with them? They're popular on forums like AVS.
What did you use for the high pass filter? Is it built-in into the sun?
Which one would be ideal to use with Senn Ambeo? 60:40 TV/MOVIES: MUSIC use, want to hear the lowest frequencies not too loud and a balanced bass.
Rel make the best subs in my opinion
woofer basket looks exactly like those used in SVS lower end drivers (SB1000/1000Pro/2000Pro)
Please define small and large rooms in terms of m2! Thanks.
Hey guys, no audio reviewer seems to have Funktion One on its radar. You guys seem to have the expertise to review those. Just got my hands on a pair of Funktion One F5. I'm really out and about to try them but I'm still inconclusive about some things. They are broadband speakers which go down to 150Hz. I got the feeling that they sometimes struggle in the heights. I paired them with the Adam Sub 8 which works great for me but I really would like to see your guys take on it.
Man I was going to jump on the adorama deal for the HT1508 this past Monday...I ended up getting the SVS PB3000 and SVS SB3000 instead...damn I wish this review would've come out before Monday!!! It was priced at 1,100$
You did not make a mistake my friend.
@@deathunitesus2135 You're not lying, that PB3000 hits! It's ridiculous in a good way lol
@@deathunitesus2135 I could buy sb 4000 for 1500usd and I was disappointed. It didn't had a punch that my old rel had. I can only say it plays okay but nothing more
Yes 👍
Any idea if REL designs their own amps or completely outsources them?
1 HT1205 or 2 HT1003s? You keep getting better Jay!
THAT is the question. But I always find 2 to be better. I'd start with 1 where price is comfortable for me to swallow and then add a 2nd maybe few months down the road. Just me !
Nice video Jay! What is the name of the song used in the background or intro in the Rel video?
Nice review, guys. I have Kef ls50s and I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on the REL Ht1003. You mentioned that you "high-passed" the Kefs. How does one achieve this high-pass with a simple stereo integrated setup?
It would be an option in his 2 channel Amp or home theatre receiver, then you would need to use the sub outs on the amp going into the sub. So you would need that option in your amp if you have passive speakers, but if you had active speakers which had a dial to roll off the base then that could be another way. If you had the active Kef LS50 Wireless 2, then they have a high pass filter option built into the app.
Hi Guys, new to your channel and i'm enjoying it so far.... Quick question, could you match this with a T/7x in a dual sub home theater set up, thinking of hooking the T/7x both high lvl and LFE and the HT1003 only via LFE for the extra depth and grunt in the bass effects in the room..?
I saw that light ass box start to walk around about 8 minutes in. Dave
Nice video!
I think it's interesting that we have categories like "movie" or "music" subs. I get what people mean with it.
But I think there isn't a thing like that. I mean I want the sub to be for example tight both for music AND movies. And extension down to say 18hz is important for music as well as to movies. And each category isn't more complex or easier than the other either, IMO.
How does it compare to a BKS higher models?
Great video, but I need some help. I’ve decided to add a sub to my 2 channel system. This is for music listening. My receiver isn’t new but it does have a single sub out. I need to know which input on the sub is best for this situation. The LFE or the right and left rc inputs? Any advice would be much appreciated !
Up to what size room?
why do almost no active bass boxes have 24db bass filter? I have pioneer car player with 12/24 db and 24 db is best
Hey. I'm new to sound system etc. I have a Denon AVR-S760H and 2 Bowers&Wilkins tower. Would this sub work for gaming in a medium room?
Interesting. I have a T7i wondering if it would pair with this as I'm 60/40 music and thinking of a second
Honestly. That would be a smart move in my personal opinion. I'd totally try that myself
What size are your rooms (in sq. ft)?
If you're in the "too much branding" camp, I just spilled some scent diffuser on it by accident, and when I wiped it off the REL logo went off with it 😭
Nice review guys. Its rediculas that a UK brand sub cost $665 over here and $440 over in the states. Theres a reason why we're called rip off Britain.
I must admit that it's annoying watching a British review when only GBP's are mentioned because you can't just use an exchange rate site to get a 'real world' price. Deducting 20% VAT just doesn't do it.
2023 on sale for $349 USD
which LUT do you use for this video?
I have a pair of SVS SB3000 in my living room in a stereo setup used for movies and music. They work very well for me, but I haven't had many other subwoofers to compare them with. I'm building a music only setup in the near future and I've been looking at REL and Rythmik. A thousand USD is my budget per sub.
I own a velodyne spl 1200 ultra (simular to your svs subs) and a rel t9i and my experiance is that both have a simular distortion level (verry low) but there is a big differens on the ”resolution” dont know how to put it but the velodyne you can hear clean, tight bass from a bass guitar but with the rel you can also hear the strings vibrating. And you sacrifice the super deep bextreme spl (that can scare you in movies).Hope this will help you understand the improvments you will get
@@Stonyartist yea but the HT series do go down LOW
have you measured watts on the amplifier inside the bass box? do not think it measures 300 watts. really 300watt is quite a lot for a bass of this type
My bedroom Klipsch Subwoofer just stopped working and I'm caught in between the Rel HT1003 and SVS PB1000. Can you please advice me?
I have a rel ht1205 and its quick, powerful, solid, large, and tight
Be helpful if you could define large or medium room. Dimensions please.
On rels site it is 100 200 sq ft, small. 200 400 medium above that is large.
Any reviews for Rythmik Subwoofer? Such as F12G?
possibly if I can get them to be interested in youtube reviews !
OK I got 2 off this but I have no Idea how to set it Up, how do I connet this to my ab resiver? some one please help ...........I left my bank acount on emty to get 2 but I'm not sure how to connect them.
Maybe just a visual effect but it seemed like you can literally see the cone flexing while being driven hard. I'd assume great for HD, not so much for music.
It is due to the way the camera sensor is read, from top left to bottom right, line by line. All subwoofer videos have this effect. I doubt that woofer would have flex but it might have other properties that would affect how good the performance would be. I've found many small subs to sound boomy or rumbly/not well defined. I have my doubts about the REL but I haven't heard one so can't make proper judgement
@@RennieAsh I’ve had this sub for a few weeks now and boomy is NOT a word that describes this subs performance. I would use words like fast, controlled, and very well defined. I’ve paired this sub with my Klipsch RF 8000’s and it’s heavenly. Now I’m not gonna lie, if REL’s sound this nice with their least expensive subs I have to wonder what something like the ti 7s or 9 would sound like though
3:18 - REL’s chief designer is John, not Andrew. Andrew is with Elac.
yes. check pinned comment
@@Jayiyagi - I see it now :)
Have you demonstrated the Emotiva Rs11? You wouldn't say the REL raw woofer is hefty comparing the woofers. I was actually disappointed in the REL raw woofer. It's like a $100 woofer... stamped basket smaller VC ect.... Emotiva let's you know they take build quality serious... check them out when you get a chance. BTW your content is awesome!
I'm sorry but if you cross the subwoofer at 100 Hz with bookshelves you can definitely hear and feel where most of the bass is coming from, thus you'll hear/feel 2 sources of bass, so that's a big no-no ! Ideally would be to cross it anywhere between 50-80 Hz max! That way the bass just fells like it's coming from the speakers.
Is this subwoofer compatible and pair with two hogtalare speakers? Please reply back 😢.
Thujan, what do you use as a high-pass filter?
I use a 80hz high-pass filter and have a few ways of enabling it. I believe a good chunk of subwoofers have it built in. Otherwise I use an integrated amplifier like the Marantz Cr611 that has bass management or a mini dsp 2x4 where I can program a digital crossover for my subwoofer and speakers.
I usually use it with bookshelves speakers to take the bass load away from their drivers and in my experience cleans up the sound (Reduces distortion, helps with subwoofer integration). With floor standers and/or fullrange speakers it's not as much needed.
Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Has anyone tried blending one of these with a a pair of t5i's for 2 channel music?
Personally, I never use subs at the full volume. I put it at the midpoint and then allow Audyssey blend the subs in with the rest of my speakers.
how does it compare to the JL d108 sub?
I would go with the JL audio d108. That has phase control so you can really dial in your set up. When your system is in phase will make a world of difference.
The SVS SB & PB Pro 1000 2000 3000 have come along way. Now comes with phone application. Beats the REL.
Do you think this will be good to use as a complement with Headphones, I mean to reinforce the bass in your body? Thanks.
Yep! I know a few people who do this with their headphone systems. If your listening space allows it, it's a great way to get a full body experience and feel the bass. You would essentially provide signal to the subwoofer using the "pre outs" from your headphone amplifier.
Maybe consider bass shakers too. I would have thought you would want a bigger sub that a little REL if you want to feel bass however
I heard a Bose sub with a 5in woofer kick ass on this REL...
Then you have no idea where you are talking about haha, hope you weren't serious ;)
What do you guys think about the HT 1508? Will that be good for music? Or should I go for the T series? Or the S series? I am 50:50 between music and movie. Please help. Thank you.
I am using the HT 1508. It's fantastic for music and movies. I am saying this after using the ported PC 2000 which was also good. But this one is better.
@@nitinkanchan5294 thank you. I have since gotten hooked on custom keyboard...so can't buy any AV equipment now ... 😭
@@IronCan88 , most welcome :) As long as you feel happy with the keyboard is perfectly fine. I sincerely wish you would get the sub you like in the future. 👍
Какая площадь помещения рассчитана под этот REL HT/1003 !?
Hey guys, i was really disappointed after hearing the price and i tell you why!
440 dollars, oh no 😳, we have to pay 700 euro's for it. That's absolutely steeling money 💰
How would you compare this sub to the rsl speed woofer?
Got one in for review :)
I have two SVS SB-2000 subs paired up with the Buchardt S400s in an 11 by 14 foot listening area,7 foot ceilings with acoustic tiles) and am having a hard time integrating them - kinda boomy for music. Am thinking about trying out a REL T/7i. Any thoughts on that?
Get a minidsp and a mic. Get a laptop and start equalizing your system.
@@felixxia3604 Interesting -have to read up on those because I have no idea what the hell that is. Guess a spectrum analyzer on an iPhone app is not gonna do the trick.
The Rel subwoofers would be easier to integrate with the Buchardt S400 without the use of any external bass management tools. They certainly aren't boomy which would solve your problem.
I heard the Rel T7i and I loved it so fast, refined, detailed and loud in a controlled manner. Very good for movies and music . You will love it to bits. If you can get it go for T9i, you wont regret spending the extra bit of money. The T7i is also a good choice though.

Great review guys, so 1 of these with Kef ls50 wireless?
Absolutely!

@@geoffk6375 Hello, I have a REL T9X with the same speakers and WOW. That being said, Jacob at REL can help you out with the KEF app setting. BTW, I just purchased the HT 1330 for another room
You guys should give the HSU-ULS 15 MK2 a listen fantastic music sub and killer home theater sub.
Just bought an HT1205 on the recommendation of my hi-fi store, but I'm finding it can't move enough air to pressurize my space (admittedly very large at ~1,000 sq-ft). It's bottoming out and distorting at family-friendly volumes. Not sure if I should buy a second one, move to a larger sub, or try to use the 1205 for "higher" musical bass over 30 Hz, and use a big ported sub to move the air for the subterrarian frequencies.
I would say you probably need 2 of them or need to look at the 1508 if you wanted to stick with Rel
At a moment...use 2×REL T9...As suport for ATC SCM 40/Music/...in less loud listening
And 2×REL Tzeros as suport for ATC SCM 7 /TV, movies...with one extra Klipsch sub..../3 subs, 2×Rel+Klipsch sw 110

Stamped Steel Basket?
Okay enough about the over branded, overpriced REL's. I need you guys to review a Rythmik sub. The servo technology should make them them much better than REL for music. Or movies. Do it!
looking into it. Rythmik has been rather hard to get hold of. Not sure if they don't care or they don't want their product reviewed on youtube or both
@@Jayiyagi Actually checked into buying 2 of them. But they are not shipping anywhere outside the USA right now because of some issue that extends from covid-19 policies. I'd have to get them delivered and picked up in Buffalo.
I always find it strange that Paul from PS audio maintains that REL are the ones to beat but yet he himself will not make a sub that doesn't have servo technology.
Even the mind behind Salk speakers buys the Rhythmik technology and make their own cabinets for them, actually slightly thicker at 1-in in thickness compared to the 3/4 of an inch thickness for Rhythmik's own.
@@mesonto Truth be told. servo is an easier way. The question should be why isn't Rel doing it if it's such a good method that beats it all? It isn't a patented unicorn technology after all !
@@Jayiyagi firstly I would have to believe that servo technology makes the cone react more accurately. Secondly, why would REL do anything when its present marketing is working and you don't have to add the extra expense? And REL is already more expensive than 80% of its competition.
