Holy crap, Dave... I've been just astonished at what you and Brooke can do with all your off-grid cabin stuff and you're, like, hold my beer... watch us go 7 weeks minimalist hardcore survival in brutal deep bush north Vancouver Island. Currently binging Season 1 Alone. I think after that I'm going break with what I normally do with a TV series (systematically watch every season) and jump straight to Season 4 so I can watch you guys do your thing. Just watched the clip of you and Brooke reuniting in Season 4 after your 9 day (?) compass hike. Haven't cried in decades but honestly have to admit that got me a little misty-eyed...lol Whenever the pandemic lockdown/restrictions/whatever gets me down, I just put on some BushRadical or Girl In the Woods and it's like a big slap in the face...lol. Brings me right down. It's hugely motivational. It's like, these guys are out there in the woods doing THAT and I'm here getting crabby about a litte pandemic cabin fever? Big thumbs up and thanks for everything you guys do. Huge respect. :)
Awesome stories Dave! One of my rules: if you are alone in the dangerous area and your headlamp is broken or something like that and it is a really black night (no moon etc.) you have to stay, where you are, and wait for the morning sun. You don't want to walk in the dark and break your leg on a root or fall off a rock. Just be patient and wait for the better moment to walk. But I really haven't used this rule yet, because I always take a spare flashlight. Take care everybody!
Thanks for sharing! Yeah Brooke's weight loss made me sad for her 😭 she's such a high energy person so seeing her drained was sad 😥 I just barely stared watching that show, I was rooting for you guys!
Then you went on to build the best shelter the show has ever seen. That cabin you guys made was next level. I honestly thought that if you had better luck with catching fish and getting more food, you could have gone on to win.
I'm watching the show now and I have to say you and Brooke made that season. You both have this positive demeanor that is infectious and so great to watch. And your skills and priorities using them make so much sense to me.
My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed all the seasons of Alone. All the participants were amazing, so innovative and creative and tough. Loved seeing how problems were addressed and solved. Looking forward to hearing more stories.
Thanks Dave, you are a natural story teller! My dad and I went on a mountain hike in winter in the Lake District of England, we were in a party of 4 and the two other guys decided that they did not want to ascend Scafell, the highest peak, as darkness was not too far away. So we made a plan and agreed a route they should take to get down into the local village where there was a hostel. Dad and I forged on and darkness was soon upon us so we removed our pack and aimed to retrieve our flashlights only to find they were in our companions' packs. Long Story Short...there was no Moon, low clouds smothered the peak and we decided to spend the night on the snowy peak as we were aware there were some sheer cliffs ahead. Now unpacking a tent and erecting it in the pitch dark is not something I ever wish to do again, at best we scrabbled in the dark and created a rough bivvi to keep snow and wind off us. The snow had some weird pin prick luminous specks in it...I never knew what they were and have never seen them again. Daylight revealed we were a few yards from the precipice! We made our way down into the valley to be met by the local SARS (Search and Rescue Team) who were happy to see us safe...naturally we made a handsome donation to them for their inconvenience! Just amazed how those Hickory knots beat up your good old Hudson Bay Knife :)
Hey WS! I would love to see a video on your experience. Thats a great story and there is a LOT to learn from it!!! We need to have lunch and swap stories!
Dave, awesome story about the knife. I had a similar experience when i was deer hunting in Utah back in the 80s... i walked out of the camp trailer in the middle of the night and lost my bearings in the darkness when my flashlight died. i had to wait about 15 minutes for my eye to focus enough to see the outline of the trailer to get back and it wasn't more then 30 feet from me. I have so much respect for what you and your wife went threw on your season of Alone. i usually take a summer vacation and go fishing and camping alone, so i can relate to how quite it can get. i have had it so quiet that the only thing you can hear is your own breathing. it changes your perspective on life. granted i am only out there 6-9 days tops. i can only imagine being alone for 60-90 days. and then adding in the lack of food on top of that just seems unreal to me. my next trip i am going to have to try it with just 10 items and not taking food with me, just so i can get a better grasp the experience you all went threw. i have a decent set of outdoor skills, so i defiantly want to try it. i doubt i could make it much more that a few days, but i really want to try it, just for the experience of it. I would love to hear more of this kind of stories from Alone participants.
Love hearing your stories. Love Brooke too. Found her recently. She has so inspired me. My hubby and I sat all day sunday watching Alone series 4. Even my daughter has gotten interested. U guys are a breath of fresh air for us old farts. Keep doing what your doing. we love your family and of course the sweet dog Daisy, Thanks Dave.
When I heard this, that makes me so humble because you were amazing to watch. We have respect, Mr Whipple, serious respect for you and Brooke. I am adding this later because I realize how hard every person on that show worked, and I do not mean to critize. I know that even on my best day I would not even get off that helicopter. Great job and you and Brooke were amazing and fun to watch.
Hey, great job here! Thank you. You're a natural story teller brother. From the crackling fire, to the rain on the roof, you created an awesome "storytime" video! Lol... I kept thinking, I wish I were by that fire. Listening to that rain. Drinking coffee with Bailey's (my added touch). With cool stories to tell people in my Alaskan cabin. :/ Geeze... I wanna be Dave! Lol. Thanks for the entertainment!
I just got into Alone recently and loved you two. Reminds me of my own wonderful relationship of teamwork, mutual respect, and love. I know this is an older video, but maybe I'll get a lucky response. I'm so curious as to whether or not you could hear other contestants or their echoes when they yell or scream, because I know you can hear wolves from miles away.
Tie important gear (knife, ferro rod, etc.) to your outfit with cord long enough to utilize the item but not so long as to get in the way when utilizing the item. Plus also, you have extra cord if needed.
I’m a new subscriber. Love the Chanel and was psyched to see you guys on CZcams. Alone is the best show on TV and you guys killed it. I thought you were going to win.
Great story about your lost knife, Dave. I enjoy the Alone show, and I enjoy the videos put out by both you and Brooke. I personally thought that you and Brooke would be the winners on your season of Alone, because I know that both of you have some great bushcraft experience and knowledge. I really liked the cabin that Brooke built! Keep up all of your good work!
I often find that when looking for something you remember having in your hand and not being able to find it, is to take a break, sit and have a coffee or whatever, read a paper, just anything to take your mind off it. When you do that, you tend to find it very quickly after the break.
OH MY GOD....just listening to you telling about that situation with the lamp and the drop was anxiety inducing. I can't imagine how you felt at that moment 😬. Oh and plus being starved with little energy. How did I forget about that.
Yeah, those rechargeable headlamps that just switch off can put ou in frightening situations. I will only use them close to home (I live off grid) and use the battery powered ones for further away. Lesson learned Thanks for the stories 👍
I just happen to fund this story. Is is amazing how something happens and when you finally remember, you cannot believe you forgot where the item was placed. You have a nice voice for storytelling. I bet your children loved you reading to them when they were young.
My dad logged on Vancouver Island, he called hemlock tomcat wood because when you would burn it, it created a smell like a tom cat had marked his territory. When new guys would come into camp he would put a piece on the fire and pretty soon the guys would be checking out their bedding and stuff to see where the cat had peed. It would be neat if the show would let you go through the material and make a video about your time from your perspective. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Dave, awesome to hear more of what actually happened! To sum up my opinion "wow bud, and I thought you had it hard just watching the show on tv" which led me to believe that they should give out a "he went above and beyond" award to people like you, Rock On! Even more respect for team Whipple Okay, back to the show, lol, one thing I'd like to point out is that I noticed that some of it is in luck of location as well, and you and Brooke's location in season 4 is a good example, having that open area to build in was a godsend for sure, and still close to the coast for fishing, very fortunate I'd say in my simple opinion bud. As for the current season in Mongolia, wow, what a chaotic season, half my favorites down fast almost out of the gate, heartbreaking to say the least, but back to the new location, I see it as tougher in some ways, easier in others, still a total pain in the ass lol. I was sorry to see Brooke tap this season, but when I saw her shelter, my first thought was "she's gonna move or upgrade, that's not gonna cut it for her" and it turned out to be true in a way, but I love what she did and I'm proud that a part time Michigander Rocked On again on Alone! Two thumbs up to you and Brooke and two middle fingers up to those that thumb down this video, love both of your channels bud, Rock On!!!
Been watching your channel for last 9 months or so. Just watched season 4 this past weekend. Kind of surreal watching. Felt like rooting for friends. You guys are inspiring. Oh yeah- I highly recommend the wowtec headlamps
Thanks, I hope you liked season 4. We were on another show back in 2015 called Yukon River Run....You might like that one too. Its about log rafting with our friend Neil
Dave, I enjoyed following you and Brooke on alone. Enjoy your separate channels as well. I have been camping all of my life. Have done family camping, camper camping, primitive camping, and Scout camping. Would love to attempt alone, but one concern is I am a survivor of several heart attacks. Not sure how that stress would impact me.
Thanks for the stories. Kinda miss you guys in Mich. Hope you all are enjoying your Alaskan "sweater" Summer. It's a little warmer down here, but it's nice. Looking forward to some more stories and vids. Take care
You and Brooke are the real winners. You both have all the skills for what it takes to survive. Just thinking of that mansion and it's fireplace you built... nobody got anywhere near that accomplished. It's just such a pity the food supplies ran out. Having said that, I spose having all the skills are nullified if there is no food source. Brooke was hurting my heart everytime I saw her towards the end. Just noticed that coffee pot over your left shoulder, that is defo the one you took with you... right?
I always wondered if like anyone ever has had some kind of a big foot type of experience or like something weird happened in the woods?? I know a lot of stuff gets cut out but it just makes you wonder the things people don’t talk about cool video man
Hi Dave. That was great. I have been trying to get on Alone since season one. No luck yet, so I am hopeful for 2019. I pray they continue the series and hope some producer type finds me.... You guys did great. Loved hearing your stories. Thanks!
Stuff that nightmares are made of! Great stories Dave, thanks for sharing. Would love to follow you and Brooke doing your own 2 week survival adventure...
Great stories Dave, thanks for Sharing. Headlamps? I have a Princeton Tech I really like with three levels of brightness. As the batteries wear down the upper levels will quit working so.... if I get down to just the lowest light level I know I better get the batteries changed pretty quick. It's a real handy indicator...
Hey Dave, thanks for the stories. One thing I'm curious about, what happens to you guys when you leave? Do they take you to get checked out medically, or to a hotel, or what? How long till you fly home, etc? I wish you would've touched on that in a video, always wondered how that worked.
keep putting yourself in the shoes of people who want to go on the show and never have. There's a distinct lack of Alone content out there. like how does it REALLY feel to be on the show - emotionally, physically, spiritually. I know youve covered some of that already, but when youre actually there, is it harder/easier than it looks? that kinda stuff would be awesome. keep up the great content mate
Bushradical ah yes, great idea. i will definitely watch that. the beauty is that youre one of the few who can talk with authority on this. i look forward to it!
Nice stories! It would be great to hear more about the nine day journey from touch down until uniting with Brooke. What was that like? All you had was a compass and a small amount of gear.
Good question.....Ive met with some folks in the knife industry and I may get into making knives this fall. I'll probably still do ULUs but I really want to make some bushcraft style knives.
I was going to get new headlamps for our fishing trips, Because of a review of 1 you did. TY And I happened to see this video the evening before so I spent probably 2 hours looking at and reading every single thing on every package. Oh of course they didn't have the one you reviewed. So I got 1 of a brand I've never used before and a couple big packs of batteries.
Wow, I am sorry you had stomach issues. I had a tonsillectomy and I didn't know it, but I had an infection that prevented me from being able to eat. I was in pain but I was so nauseous I could barely eat or sleep. Three tablespoons of broth was a meal. So, I hear you on the starving thing. Not quite what you went through. I'm glad the Mayo Clinic helped you.
Great recount of the adventures. Wife and I are loving the uluu. Wish I bought two so I could take one with me on my adventures. She says she needs it at home.
Awesome vid as always Dave, I love these stories from Alone I’d love to see more vids about them and even things you and Brooke did and projects y’all did, heck it would be even cooler if you and Brooke did some together she should even do some vids on the stories and projects herself. I hope y’allz summer has gone good, and it’s staying cool, Here in North Jersey we’re hitting a heat advisory again @113 with the heat index and high humidity ahhh lol Anthony ☕️✝️☯️✌️❤️😊
Bushradical ah that’s the perfect kinda weather for fall. Awesome I can’t wait to see them. I caught her recent vids on the tree falling on the house and the barn collapsing I’m so sorry Brother I’m glad y’all weren’t hurt. In the vid she said ya’ were still up in AK I could only imagine how ya’ felt. On the upside ya’ have a nice supply of fire wood and now ya’ don’t have to worry about them pigeons shittin’ on the riding lawnmower anymore 😂😂😂
Hey Thanks for the concern. I would still be in Alaska finishing up the building season if it weren't for all the disaster, LOL. But you're right we have a great supply of firewood now.
New subscriber here. My wife and I were rooting for you and Brooke during Alone. Very cool stuff you shared! Thanks for sharing with us! I'm really enjoying your videos. You're both funny and informative.
Great stories! Thanks for sharing them - I enjoyed hearing them. I have a story I hope you appreciate: A few years ago, my cousin and I left our deer camp at night to go to an abandoned hunting cabin about a mile from our camp. Why? Because. Being the "supreme outdoorsman" we are, we decided that one small flashlight was good enough because "we won't get lost." Wrong! Our goal was to find the cabin without using the aforementioned flashlight. We started out on a path that we traveled on too many times to count, and because of how dark the night was we got twisted around so bad, that we eventually had no idea where we were. Eventually, I gave in to using the flashlight and our trek to the cabin ended when, while trying to find out where the hell we were, my light found a set of glowing eyes checking us out. I asked my cousin if he saw the same thing as I did, and he said "yep, time to go." There was no need to be hanging around with coyotes in the area without weapons or a fire to back us up. We eventually made our way back to deer camp, but not without a lot of mis-taken steps off of non-existent trails. It's amazing how easy it is to get lost in pitch black even if you think you know where you're going.
I hate hemlocks and green tarps lol! You guys are the best appreciate all you bring to the outdoor community. Give Brooke my best she is a survival champion!!!
Very much enjoyed, and I know what you mean about those rechargeable batteries My job was an inspector , and back in the day we used regular D-cell battery type flashlights and as you stated batteries get low they get dim, well they let us buy rechargeable lights, don’t get me wrong they were great, very bright compared to the others but the first time you are out at a job and the place your at is pitch dark without the light , you learn to take a backup , been there done that, thanks for the share and the info for others to think about
Holy crap, Dave... Haven't cried in decades but honestly have to admit that got me a little misty-eyed...lol
Whenever the pandemic lockdown/restrictions/whatever gets me down, I just put on some BushRadical or Girl In the Woods and it's like a big slap in the face...lol. Brings me right down. It's hugely motivational. It's like, these guys are out there in the woods doing THAT and I'm here getting crabby about a litte pandemic cabin fever? Big thumbs up and thanks for everything you guys do. Huge respect. :)
I love this comment...kudos, MSA!
Best comment I've read on CZcams in a long time!
Thanks for taking the time off from the cabin build to tell us great stories. Nothing like rain falling onto a metal roof.
Thanks for watching!
I'm watching the show now and I have to say you and Brooke made that season. You both have this positive demeanor that is infectious and so great to watch. And your skills and priorities using them make so much sense to me.
Thanks
You should write a book..I could listen to your stories all day long.
Thanks! Ive thought about writing a book....Maybe this winter.
Bushradical .you could combine survival tips and alone stories. With lots of pics..
I think if I write a survival book it will be a LOT of stories. I always learn the best from reading a good story.
I totally agree! Dave’s a very informative guy!
Audio book. So cool. Loved those stories.
My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed all the seasons of Alone. All the participants were amazing, so innovative and creative and tough. Loved seeing how problems were addressed and solved. Looking forward to hearing more stories.
Thanks! Glad you like the stories.
WS…you are a gifted storyteller as well, friend. What an adventure!
I absolutely love your stories like this... I will put them on at work and just listen while I get stuff done... thank you for sharing these with us!
Thanks Chris!
I would love to hear more of this kind of stories from Alone participants.
Thanks Shad. Let me know if you get the chance to go out with 10 items. I'd love to hear how you did and what your thoughts were.!!
Thank you for sharing your and Brooks adventure.and so glad you had the surgery and feel better..Thank You Jesus.
Thanks Granny & Gus
Thank you really enjoy watching these. It helps when I work in remote areas. You guys are awesome!

I could listen forever, thank you. I also enjoyed what your wife told about Mongolia. You two are just awesome!
Thanks so much for these stories! Love the rain on the roof.
Thanks DEW!
So enjoyed your stories! Very thankful God protected the both of you! 🙏🤗🙏
Great real life stories Dave, you are a man's man.......🍁
So glad you did this. Great stories to listen to. Thanks so much, Dave.
Thanks !!
Hey, great job here! Thank you.

Thanks Casper, you made my day!
Your not the only one brother!! Dave W. For President!!
@@ryanadam1153I would definitely vote for him! This country would be way better off with Dave being president.
Those were some great stories! I really enjoyed them! Thank you for sharing them!
Thanks
Just love you folks! You're both very likable👍😊
Thanks
I just got into Alone recently and loved you two. Reminds me of my own wonderful relationship of teamwork, mutual respect, and love. Hey Zack. Hope I did the whole thing justice and covered the experience in a new way.
Bushradical Ya man love the story's we miss all that just watch the show

Great story about your lost knife, Dave. I enjoy the Alone show, and I enjoy the videos put out by both you and Brooke. Great stories Dave... thanks 😊
Very relaxing sitting by the fire listening to your stories. Thanks Dave. -Stephen, Ohio
Hey Stephen! How's your summer going?
My fellow David,
Thank you for your post!
Sure enjoyed your video!
Enjoyed the stories, especially the Knife story.
Blessings!
Thanks David!

Thanks!
Fantastic stories, Dave. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks!
Fantastic stories. Really enjoyed it. My headlamp flashes to let me know it is about to die. That is a nice feature.
good deal....listen to your headlamp, LOL
Great stories. Salal is brutal stuff. I once crossed a patch on top of it five feet off of the ground.
That would be great, but its not going to happen. Sad to say
Some Good Stories, Bushy. I sure enjoyed hearing 'em.
Thanks!
I have only watched parts of alone recently because I don't watch tv and I would love to watch the full season 4 with you and Brooke. Great story.
You should! LOL

I doubt it would be stressful at all....provided you dont hike in a tone of gear. If you do it let me know...and let me know how it goes.
Great stories, really adds to the show.

I always wondered if like anyone ever has had some kind of a big foot type of experience or like something weird happened in the woods?? I know a lot of stuff gets cut out but it just makes you wonder the things people don’t talk about cool video man
Ah, the stories we have to share. Good stuff. Thanks
Hi Dave. That was great.
I have been trying to get on Alone since season one. No luck yet, so I am hopeful for 2019. I pray they continue the series and hope some producer type finds me....
You guys did great. Loved hearing your stories. Thanks!
Thanks , and good luck
Stuff that nightmares are made of! Great stories Dave, thanks for sharing. Would love to follow you and Brooke doing your own 2 week survival adventure...
......Interesting idea. That would be fun.
Great video Dave! I always enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks
I really enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks!
I wish Alone would make another show with all the other footage. Maybe a few episodes per person to show more of what its really like.
This is a GREAT idea!
Be careful with headlamps that shut off, LOL
Hey Dave, thanks for the stories. One thing I'm curious about, what happens to you guys when you leave? Do they take you to get checked out medically, or to a hotel, or what? How long till you fly home, etc? I wish you would've touched on that in a video, always wondered how that worked.
Great question! I wondered that too
Great stories Dave!!
lovin these Alone videos - gives a great insight you just dont get elsewhere - thanks again man!
Thanks BACA! Is there anything you wished that I would cover and haven't ? Let me know
keep putting yourself in the shoes of people who want to go on the show and never have. There's a distinct lack of Alone content out there. like how does it REALLY feel to be on the show - emotionally, physically, spiritually. I know youve covered some of that already, but when youre actually there, is it harder/easier than it looks? that kinda stuff would be awesome. keep up the great content mate
Thanks BACA, I may do one or two more videos on the subject. I have one shot right now about tips to getting on ALONE, I think people will like that.
Bushradical ah yes, great idea. i will definitely watch that. the beauty is that youre one of the few who can talk with authority on this. i look forward to it!
oh and FYI - my 8 questions video is up if you wanna check it out :) czcams.com/video/Ga7mLukKc6I/video.html
Nice stories! It would be great to hear more about the nine day journey from touch down until uniting with Brooke. What was that like? All you had was a compass and a small amount of gear.
Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures.
Thanks Bob.
Always great to see and hear from you, Dave. Love the stories. Still loving my ulu knife!
Thanks Susan!!!!
Bushradical making anymore ulus??
Good question.....Ive met with some folks in the knife industry and I may get into making knives this fall. I'll probably still do ULUs but I really want to make some bushcraft style knives.
the best answer: you're making me one now and shipping it out monday...lol...thanks dave for a great channel.
Thanks Stephen.....I'm a few months out for sure, but thats the direction I'm planning to head.....
I watch that and never realized you were on it LOL I had to rewatch and I do remember you
I was going to get new headlamps for our fishing trips, Because of a review of 1 you did. TY And I happened to see this video the evening before so I spent probably 2 hours looking at and reading every single thing on every package. Oh of course they didn't have the one you reviewed. So I got 1 of a brand I've never used before and a couple big packs of batteries.
Thanks for all the great honest advice
Wow, I am sorry you had stomach issues. I had a tonsillectomy and I didn't know it, but I had an infection that prevented me from being able to eat. I was in pain but I was so nauseous I could barely eat or sleep. Three tablespoons of broth was a meal. So, I hear you on the starving thing. Not quite what you went through. I'm glad the Mayo Clinic helped you.
Great stories, thank you for sharing.Would have loved to hear more
Thanks Diane!!
Good stuff and thanks for sharing. Nice to hear behind the scenes stuff. Be well.
Thanks

Great recount of the adventures. Wife and I are loving the uluu. Wish I bought two so I could take one with me on my adventures. She says she needs it at home.

Thanks Adam!
139!!!! Youve made a great recovery! Loved the video! Thanks
Thanks . Although I was much more flexible at 139 than at 240
LOL
Awesome vid as always Dave, I love these stories from Alone I’d love to see more vids about them and even things you and Brooke did and projects y’all did, heck it would be even cooler if you and Brooke did some together she should even do some vids on the stories and projects herself.
I hope y’allz summer has gone good, and it’s staying cool, Here in North Jersey we’re hitting a heat advisory again @113 with the heat index and high humidity ahhh lol
Anthony ☕️✝️☯️✌️❤️😊
Its about 45 here in AK. Brooke is planing on doing some Alone videos soon.
Thanks MWID! I appreciate the sub, and I hope you enjoy the channel!

Good stories Dave. Thanks.
Thanks AH!!
Great stories! Thanks for sharing them - I enjoyed hearing them.
I have a story I hope you appreciate:
A few years ago, my cousin and I left our deer camp at night to go to an abandoned hunting cabin about a mile from our camp.
Why?
I love the story! There is nothing like the feeling of being lost! I also have a "lost " story.....but i'll save it for a video...
I hate hemlocks and green tarps lol! You guys are the best appreciate all you bring to the outdoor community. Give Brooke my best she is a survival champion!!!
Thanks C2!
Love listening to you, good story
Thanks for listening!
Most enjoyable. Thanks
thanks
This is awesome. Thank you for sharing. Cheers from Canada!
Thanks! Where in Canada ?
Bushradical Central Alberta. Close...kinda. Lol
I stop into Gibbons and Ft Saskatewan whenever I go through there. Nice country.
Love you guys!
Wonderful stories,
Very much enjoyed, and I know what you mean about those rechargeable batteries
My job was an inspector , and back in the day we used regular D-cell battery type flashlights and as you stated batteries get low they get dim, well they let us buy rechargeable lights, don’t get me wrong they were great, very bright compared to the others but the first time you are out at a job and the place your at is pitch dark without the light , you learn to take a backup , been there done that, thanks for the share and the info for others to think about
Right on ! Thanks Nutthrower!
