Please. However, I'd love to see you guys comment on the empty hand techniques of Assassins Creed (the one in the Victorian era). They were not just pretty brutal, but techniques I haven't seen before. For instance a few of the throws I can't tell if they exist in some martial art, but they look plausible enough...

Realism is very arbitrary in video games. If i wanted to make COD realistic, I'd start with a whole bunch of other stuff than knife kill animations. Most people just want flashy and brutal kills and that obviously goes against realism.

Just like the reaload animatioms of modern warfare, almost all of them are realistic yet they still look very cool.
Just play wiht the camera angles, flow and timing of the actions, even the example logan gave will look flashy with little tweaks here and there

I remember seeing an old video where an old ex-SAS guy talked about the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife and how they used it in WW2. He emphasized the technique shown here of plunging the knife into the throat and pushing it out over the usual slitting of the throat.

one i like alot is "Slingblade", its still a bit flashy but i feel it has a practical aspect to it, if the enemy is already downed and depending on their stance you just stab their neck, otherwise you throw them on the ground and go for the neck

I remember reading about an SAS or some other high level unit technique, instead of cutting the throat and having blood go out all over the place, you would stab at an angle downward somewhere between the shoulder and neck severing a major blood vessel, but all of the blood would be contained within the body

This is what I love about the last of us and last of us 2. Any time Ellie does a finisher, she always grabs them by their mouth, puts the blade in their neck for 2-3 seconds, then pulls out like you showed and they’re virtually silent the entire time. Pretty cool attention to detail. I loved those games

I think it depends on what type of blade you have, but I saw a documentary a while ago and the special forces guy said to actually have a completely silent takedown, you puncture the lung as the cavity is a vacuum. Thus collapsing their lungs and making them unable to breathe.
