Eddie vs. Elvis... why? They were both greats for different reasons. They took the look and sound of the day, everyone was inspired by each other but they worked their own style and talents into it to create the sound that influenced millions through the decades. C'mon everybody, Just enjoy the music!
This song has a lot of meaning to me because my friend lived in building that had twenty flights of stairs and seemed the elevator was broken down regularly in 1960's. This was Larry's favourite song. We're still fans of Eddie today!
This was the song that brought John Lennon and Paul McCartney together at the Woolton fete in suburban Liverpool. Paul knew the words to Twenty Flight Rock and this greatly impressed John (and me too!)
Elvis didn't need to write his songs. His genius was the way he wrapped his glorious voice around a song. Eddie was good but Elvis was great. Eddie didn't have even close to the vocal diversity that Elvis had. But there's room for everyone in rock and roll!!!
Led Zeppelin Bruce Springsteen CCR Aerosmith BB King But these guys you mentionned began it all. So the greatest respect for them al. Especialy Elvis. Great musician. I'm a big fan of his.
July 6, 1957, St. Peter's Church, Woolton, Liverpool - Paul McCartney plays this song for John Lennon, leader of the skiffle group The Quarrymen - the song that got Paul into the Beatles....played by one of Eddie Cochrane's most famous fan, to another !!!
This is a very god videoclip for the time. Nice to appear amoung those Fifties Stars. Thanx for Sharing. Me as a singer in a nostalgic band I'm very grateful to you. Marco Antonio
Why is Eddie not more well know? He only lived to 21. Do I Wikipedia (sorry) on him and you will see an amazing array of musicians who covered him - incredible! Thus, though many of the public has forgotten him, the rock greats never did!
This was the song that Paul played to John when they first met at a garden fête where John was performing with his band (The Quarrymen). And the legend begins...
I never knew that there are any color films of Eddie. You're the man, thanks. I have nothing else to say but: "Whenever I'm sad, whenever I'm blue Whenever my troubles are heavy Beneath the stars I play my guitar Just like Eddie. Now, troubles may come and troubles may go But you'll always find me ready Upon the hill, playing still Just like Eddie"
I havent heard this track since I was a kid - yeah OK so I aint a kid no more but this was one of my favourite songs by Eddie - we didnt call them tracks in them days.Only discovered CZcams by accident but glad I did.I never had this track,my school friend Peter had it on an EP,if you work out what EP menas you start worrking out my age
Found this little piece of trivia a while ago, though you guys might like it. But it dont take away the fact that this is one of the best Rock & Roll songs ever. Written by a gal as well....well fancy that. "Although the title of the song implies that the singer must climb 20 flights of stairs, in actuality he would only need to climb eighteen or nineteen flights (depending on whether or not the building has a 13th floor) to reach the stated 20th floor."
That's true, and I get annoyed as hell with all the idiots who say Elvis ripped off of Eddie. No offense to Eddie, but he was the one who ripped off of Elvis' style, at least in his earliest recordings, but who wasn't doing that? He's still one of the greatest rockers.
Eddie Cochran cut a dub (acetate) of "Twenty Flght Rock" and took it out to 20th Century Fox and they put him in "The Girl Can´t Help It". Right after that, Eddie signed up with Liberty Records. Eddie Cochran immortalized it when he gave it an electric perfomance in "The Girl Can´t Help It".
this movie is very very cool. Me and my folks watched it together. My parents remember those days and had got a real kick out of seeing The Platters, Fats, and Eddie Cochran. Of course I loved it cos I'm a complete throwback
Actually, a single had 2 songs on it - one on each side - whereas the EP had 4 songs on them - 2 on each side. That´s why it was called EXTENDED play. That meant that they could also put classical and jazz songs out on small records (and not just LP:s). Usually one song on each side. (believe me, I was young in those days, yipee!)
I saw an Everly Brothers interview some time ago and they said that nobody stood a chance with any women in the room when Eddie Cochran was around. Elvis Presley was a great admirer. RIP Eddie Cochran, a brilliant musician taken so suddenly from us Thanks for posting. Arf
and, Glam, I wrote ...and the rest. That includes many artists like T-bone Walker, Roy Brown, Howlin' Wolf, Hank Williams, etc, etc. And into really important persons/influences NEVER forget Segovia, the spanish guitarist that is the founding father of modern guitar. He, for example used to play Bach on gtr and was a big influence for Eddie C and a host of others
That's the song George Harrison played on the top of the bus one night in Liverpool when Paul brought him to audition for John. George passed the audition.
All this funny back and forth comment about Elvis versus Eddie : they were both great, but I feel that Eddie had the edge ed: he played his guitar like a king, was impress by the king, and changed his style from country to rockin' after seeing the king : however, he wrote loads of his own stuff, played fantastic rock'n'roll, rockabilly, country, ballads :blues anyone ?:check out the track Eddie's Blues. He also played guitar on a track called ' I want Elvis for Christmas ' by the Holly Twins !
Story goes that when Paul brought this little kid named George to audition got the Beatles..He wowed Lennon with 20 flight rock...Eddie Cocrane ..Oh what might have been
Hey the Beatles, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Fats Domino they all were great musicer and you can´t say someone where better. You just can say that the Beatles were more successfully...
Actually, they met at a fair where John was singing with this band the Quarrymen. They were 15 and 16, or a bit younger. but that was their first meeting. That's in book The Beatles. but: I got my info from interview with Sir Paul. That's what he said. George Harrison was there and Pete Best was drumming. Guess Paul should know. peace.

No more Jrry, Eddie, Buddy, No more baaad El of the 50s, no more Richard or Fats, no more Bo Diddley or Chuck (well he contimnued into the 60s with some grteat songs and the best was "Natine".... ut huah, then it was gone.

No one rocks like Eddie. He's the tops.

He is well known in Europe.
He had everything.
Better than Elvis ( a show business product)
And i prefer Billy Burnette too.
That's my opinion.
One of my all time favourite films !
Nice to see Eddie's famous guitar in color.

Eddie Cochran was a total badass.
This was the song that Paul played to John when they first met at a garden fête where John was performing with his band (The Quarrymen). And the legend begins...
Eddie Cochran IS THE MAN!
I never knew that there are any color films of Eddie.

Eddie Cochran is the king of rock'n roll. Not Elvis, not anybody else..
That's true, and I get annoyed as hell with all the idiots who say Elvis ripped off of Eddie. No offense to Eddie, but he was the one who ripped off of Elvis' style, at least in his earliest recordings, but who wasn't doing that? He's still one of the greatest rockers.

It's from the movie "The Girl Can't Help It". The pink coat was bright red in the movie. (Some color movie film fades in time).
