STORY (Important to understand video, please read)
Moana has always fought for what was right, what she believed in. But how far can such a pure soul be pushed until it breaks? How far until the ones they once cared for are no longer worth saving?
In our story we meet Moana just as she is about to return the heart of Te Fiti to its rightful place. But at the very last second her mind is changed. Why did she falter, with victory within her grasp? What was different? What could have possibly caused such a dramatic change in character? To answer that question we’ll need to travel back to the start of Moanas’ story.
As before, the corruption is affecting more and more of the island. As it spreads, the crops begin to falter and it won’t be long before the people of the island starve. Despite this, Moanas’ Father refuses to leave the ‘safety’ of the island. So Moana, full of hope and optimism, plans to search for answers beyond the horizon. After failing to sail past the formidable waves in her own boat, she discovers a hidden cave filled with voyaging boats, once owned by her ancestors. Emboldened by her discovery, Moana prepares to embark on a journey to save her land.
However, just as she is about to leave, her father finds her and in a turn from the original story, destroys all their ancestral boats to prevent Moana from ever leaving the Island. To add insult to injury, he then imprisons Moana to stop her from escaping again, ensuring her ‘safety’. Moana is imprisoned for six months.
The darkness coursing through the island takes hold and causes destruction far worse than they could have ever imagined. The villagers start perishing. Moana, in an effort to save her people, petitions every single day to her father, begging him to let her leave and find a solution. But his pride and fear get in the way and Moanas’ pleas fall on deaf ears.
Stuck with her thoughts for 6 long months Moana becomes bitter and resentful. Every life lost is a life she could have saved. If only her father and the people who followed him had not allowed their fear to rule their hearts and minds. Losing her Grandmother was devastating for Moana, but the loss of her mother to the darkness was the final straw. Something within her snapped, and a girl once full of hope had been changed forever.
In her grief Moans hatches a plan, originally a very altruistic and heroic plan to save the island and see no one die again, but in reality it had become a selfish plan, simply to prove her father wrong and see him shamed for what he’d allowed.
Moana lies in wait for the perfect opportunity and eventually manages to make her escape. The surveillance on her cell has lessened as more and more of the village becomes unwell and she manages to salvage a boat from the destruction her father wrought. We now follow the events of the film, with a much darker Moana leading us through.
We eventually reach the climactic moment of the story as Moana is returning the heart to Te Fiti. She hesitates, looks at the heart and in that moment changes her mind. She’s already proven her father wrong, but sweeter revenge would be to have him watch the empire he’d built burn to the ground. The island refused to find a solution and it led to her mothers death. Her father refused to find a solution. And now she has one. But they don’t deserve it. They don’t deserve to be saved anymore.
And now we meet a new Moana, as she changes her mind, keeps the heart, and returns home to watch those she once cared for perish because of their foolishness. She no longer sees the point in saving them, so she’ll watch them burn instead.
Hope you enjoyed! The series will return but This will be the last villainous princess for now. Come back next week for HELLFIRE!!!

I LOVE the symbolism of her placing the heart on the pile of stones instead of a shell. In the movie, the shell marks the end of their residency on that island, as well as being representative of Moana herself and how she has changed their society. In this, using the heart marks the end of their people, period. It can also represent how her father's hubris and stubbornness, as she sees it, robbed them of the salvation they could have had. In placing it on top of the pile of stones, she is also, in a way, spitting in the face of everything he wanted her to be and what he stands for. Beautiful and chilling bit of visual storytelling

I’m so glad you mentioned this idk why more people aren’t talking about it like that’s good writing man. Seeing her put the heart in the pile of stones felt like a gut punch when I realized what that meant. I think there’s many ways to interpret it which makes it an even more powerful and tragic gesture. I think it’s insane that the creator tied in symbols from the movie into the animatic in such a clever way I did not see that coming at all I didn’t even know this one would have an animatic lol

The sad truth is that although it is a rarity that people are born evil, all it takes to turn someone good to a villain is the choices that are made around them and the choice they make too.
Some say if Europe had listen to the USA and help Germany rebuild after world war 1 Hitler wouldn’t have come to power but be an artist. And world war 2 may have not happened. And that means there is a chance that nukes wouldn’t get invented.

The image of Te'Ka looking at the departing Moana looks really haunting and the fact that Te'Ka didn't try to stop Moana from leaving indicates to me that Te'Ka, being the twisted version of Te'Fiti, who gives life, might have let Moana go, knowing she will let basically everything be consumed by darkness. Or alternatively it could be that what little part of Te'Fiti is left within Te'Ka is looking at her sorrowfully, knowing what she's about to do. Haunting either way.

Man, I love the trope of the Pure of Heart character losing it and becoming the most terrifying villain. There's something so satisfying about seeing a character who's gone through such terrible things react, not in a "everything is perfect" way, but in a "you messed up your last chance at my forgiveness, now you don't deserve my help" way. It feels so good to see a true villain come out of a hero who deserves to let out their anger more than anyone else.

I agree. This is such a tragically dark version of the heroine we’ve come to know and love. I get her dad was trying to protect her, but in this version? He went too far and that cost them their best chances of survival, but above all else, it utterly shattered his daughter’s relationship with him. Because of what he had done, this Moana had lost nearly everyone she cared about, with her mother being the final straw. If her dad wouldn’t let her go out to save the world, why should she even bother? He doesn’t deserve it in this version.

Very brilliant use in how the words "How far I'll go" can be used to the opposite effect. Moana's pain goes hard as she makes this tough decision not to save everybody when her hope has been crushed so much by her father, wanting her to see his world burn rather than give him any reward for how much ruin he brought upon them. Placing the heart on top of the stones really shows how she is willing to make this her legacy, if there even is anyone left to carry on afterwards.

The gloomy and chilling atmosphere of the instrumental and the animatic is just so haunting and eerie in a good way, it really complimented the whole song well as we're now listening to Moana's revengeful tone as her belief now has gone completely into sanity, regret and desperate really play an important factor here as well as betrayal from someone (her father) who showed her love but as well taking it away from her, that's really deep and traumatising. Your voice always is on point, capturing her pain and struggle in a way we can feel sympathy for her despite the twist.

A neat detail about Moana putting the stone on top of the pile that I don't see anyone else addressing,
Moana put the rock on the highest point of the island. Moana isn't just refusing to save her people, she's refusing to save everyone. The ocean can't get to the heart up there. The ocean can't pick anyone else.

  • @TentenchiAMVs
    @TentenchiAMVs Před rokem +83

This actually fits really well with the original story told in the film, in my opinion. To me, it looks like the key difference is in personality and how Moana interprets her father's intentions. Basically, there's a lack of understanding of where he's coming from which creates bitterness in Moana. So when the big decision comes at the end, it's the bitterness toward her father that she feels instead of the love for her people, including him. It was her loving heart that allowed her to understand and empathize with what was originally her enemy. But with this alternate version of the song, she finally breaks after a life of repression for no reason.
So, I imagine the same film but with Moana becoming increasingly bitter throughout the story until we hit the big climax. 🤔

    But because of your silence
You've brought bout all our demise
You spread fear to all of those left around you
Now this fear it surrounds you
And a darkness fills the skies
I could save them all I could stop this curse
I could heal this land put us in reverse
But you shut me out and your actions hurt

And our happy little world came crashing down
    Now you'll pay

Not gonna lie the first few frames make it seem like Moana and Te Ka are just having this beautiful therapy session where she's relating all her past struggles while Te Ka's just like, "aw queen don't worry about them, they're not worth it" 😅

This song really shows how this could've happened in the actual film had moana's father actually tried to stop her and her letting the pain and being forced to be something her father wanted her to be, get to her and how his fear of losing her like he did with his best friend nearly ended all of life as they knew it if moana didn't go and return the heart.

This is definitely my favourite 4 sure!!❤😊 She also has a really good reason to be a villain. Reason- she has been shut off from the thing she has loved to most her whole life. So she still loves her land but she isn't willing to help save them for her father's mistakes. She will make her father feel what she felt all her childhood not being able to go to the see, and her father will not be able to save his land. ♡ this 1.

I love all these VILLIAN ver of Disney princesses... I was a little disappointed that Mulan didn't had "refection" as her VILLIAN song but other than that alot of them are so good and each one has a feeling I feel... So I can't wait for the next three in the future. 😃

A song request for next princess to be turned evil:
The mice weren't able to give Cinderella the key in time, and because they were too late, Prince Charming was married off to another princess. Because of how her "family' treats her and how they stole away her happiness over and over, her anger becomes too much and she plots her revenge. I don't know which song would be good for this, it is a suggestion.

This song is so good like I can’t-
Sometimes I noticed In “All these useless and meaningless deaths are on your hand!”
It really shows how Moana still cares, despite her turn to wickedness. She knows they didn’t deserve it and that all the death and horror was for something that is nothing.
    Love this song💗

At first I was confused why Moana let her father live. But now I understand that she wanted to make him suffer in silence like she did. I also agree with Moana’s actions here. She was thinking that all her people are dead. So if she returns the heart it would just be for her dad to enjoy.

Everyone keeps saying destroying the heart would have been a great villain move but honestly that's not the point. This version of Moana is a villain but it's one that's been scorned, villains who do things to get back at people, such as letting the world rot in this version of Moana, are passive villains and usually do care and are good people but are willing to let things happen just to show people, to prove them wrong. Moana still wants the world to be saved and she still loves all those people but her hope has been crushed, and she'll crush her father's in return. She was so close to fixing everything but his doubt made her turn, not because she no longer cared but because how could someone beilieve in themself when their own parent does not. So she leaves the rock because she wants someone to find it and save the world but it won't be her.

this may be my favorite villain song yet! the emotion-packed vocals and the animatic of her home rotting and crumbling as she watches, all while voicing the fact that she doesn't *want* this to happen, it's a lesson, gives such a heart wrenching and eerie tone to the piece. (which i very much enjoy!)
it's incredible how believable you made this origin for such a kind-hearted and heroic character. one of the reasons i love villainous re-imaginings is seeing how easily the hero's traits and choices could become dark and their morals muddied if they let it. you emphasize this aspect in your work fantastically, and of course the audio and visuals are stunning as always.
    amazing work!

Whee! As soon as she returned to her island, I foresaw her putting Te Fiti's Heart on the pile of stones at the top of the mountain - as the song went on, I started wondering if she would then try to smash it with another rock, but after reading the description, I know why she didn't: as long as the Heart is intact, it's a taunt to her father that there IS a way to save those left (and a reminder that he could've saved his people sooner), but it's no longer accessible because he destroyed all the boats and Moana now refuses to help. And the ocean can't just bring it to someone else, without a tidal wave destroying the island or something, because it's so high above the waterline.

One really important part for me, is that the ocean didn't stop her. In the movie the ocean is constantly pushing Moana forward to return the heart, and although it tries to plead with her, in the end it respects her choice. It let Moana choose whether her tribe was worthy of being saved and when she found them wanting it let her sail home without interference.
