What I’ve always loved about Mr Miyagi, is that we’ve never actually seen him go above a tiny percent of his full capabilities in combat. He’s probably never had to go above 20% of his full strength (and even that’s probably generous) against Johnny and his goons or against Kreese, Mike and Silver. He didn’t need to. It makes you wonder what he was like in his prime when he had to use his full strength during the war. Man must’ve been an absolute beast.

I think back to all the times Mr. Miyagi talked about balance. Watch how he moves about the floor. Every time Silver attacks, Miyagi dodges and blocks until Silver's attacks puts himself into a position where he is off balance, and that is when Miyagi easily pushes him aside or into a wall. Perfect example of martial arts used as defense.

This goes to show how powerful Mr. Miyagi is. An old Mr. Miyagi demolished both a prime Silver and a prime Kreese. Miyagi is simple. Attack when absolutely necessary and when the opponent can't defend because they don't expect it. Can't counter something you don't expect because the guy doesn't waste energy throwing to intimidate. Instead he throws when both sides have already engaged. It's a very disarming style, Miyagi has. Avoid, block if necessary and strike in close quarters. The efficiency is utterly ruthless. Barnes, Silver and Johnny had flare but Miyagi's simplicity and rock solid foundations overcame them.

Pay attention how the much smaller Mr Miyagi uses his opponents momentum and weight against them. He blocks their strikes but grabs them and throws Barnes and Silver into the walls. They're already moving towards him so he uses that to his advantage. Thats elements of aikido. Aikido was used in war for that same purpose . Multiple attackers running towards you. Using momentum and weight. He has less reach than all three of them so he's not doing anything fancy that's high risk. Many kicks are high risk but high reward, if executed properly. They can also easily get you laid out if done carelessly. Going against experienced fighters you don't risk those, you wait for openings and be defensive, not show off like the cobra kais. That's realistic. If you were in a fight like this, throwing kicks and difficult moves against larger people would be a bad idea. He keeps a distance but comes and stays in close when engaged to remove the advantage of size. If you're taller you stay on the outside to emphasize distance and reach, if you are shorter you stay in close to remove that advantage. If they were to come at him simultaneously, you constantly circle them so it keeps the multiple attacks in a line. This way you only have one coming at you at a time. Movement is life.
