Don't even have BOLLZ to pull trigger
The accent tho, gets me everytime
I always chuckle at how Matsuoka gets cut off by the text banner when he yells at the old guys to shut up. The game is emphasizing how much of a hapless sod he is by interrupting him when he's trying to verbally stand up for himself. Even after he shoots both of the old guys, their immortality allows them to keep viciously mocking him. Matsuoka keeps getting used and humiliated throughout this introductory cut scene, which illustrates his role in the story as a pawn of Kun Lan. It's a clever and effective way of establishing his character.
But they don't mock him when they're resurrected. One claps, and the other says Matsuoko is starting to believe.
@@JohnPerry27 well before that one of them sarcastically says "Why do they treat elders like we are such [a] nuisance?" They still seem to be talking about him in a somewhat mocking tone even though they're not explicitly slamming him for his lack of "balls."
@@Komnen0s IMO Suda is showing how even if such Japanese nationalist leaders are killed or die of natural causes, the specters of their ideology will still live on as strong as ever, haunting the youth and stifling progress.
@@MrSoopSA I guess this is why he chose ministry of education
as core of corrupted goverment of the USA. As they are the ones responsible for shaping perception of future citizens and can indoctrinate them.
@@JohnPerry27Because Kun Lan literally brainwashed him, to be like his predecessors.
I always loved how the synth for the music changes pitch after 1:09 phrase "We're prepared to die". Its just so creepy, it kinda reminds me of the MGS 2 track when you are inside arsenal gear.
"This is EXACTLY the reason I hate young pricks like him!"
That line gets me every friggin' time! XD
I find it interesting how Grasshopper, a Japanese game company, created these stereotype Japanese characters in Killer7 and made them the enemy. How ironic.
Other than these guys, the entire chapter, Sunset, is pretty negative on Japan; Japan's fate (hit by missiles) is a result of two things:
1. their WWII actions, which the missiles were launched by Asian countries as revenge for, and
2. their nationalist government, which leads to a poor relationship with other countries who could otherwise have saved them.
(And then parallel to Sunset, on the other side of the game, is Smile, which is very negative on America instead, particularly the inaccurate cultural image of America offered up by the education system.)
What's fascinating is, the question of "will America honor the treaty they signed to protect Japan?" still comes up in political discussions today; it was even talked about in the 2016 presidential debates!
@@LadyDeSelby You ma'am, are a lady and a scholar!
That being said, the United States was painted in a negative light as well, maybe even more than Japan. Spoilers...
The only time the US government intervenes aside from hiring Killer7 is to forcefully inject Ulmeyda with a vaccine that he knew wouldn't work. They don't kill Heaven Smiles. They didn't attempt to save Fukishima. In addition they shoot Mills for "knowing too much" but the assassin they used "knew too much" as well. Finally, it turns out the voting process has been a lie since George Washington. It's all pre determined at an elementary school and the actual voting is just a show. And that elementary school? It trains kids on how to be hardcore assassins.
I don't know if they're really supposed to be "stereotypical Japanese characters" other than the fact that they're non-native English speakers. I feel like this is Suda expressing his contempt for the hateful old reactionary fossils who run the Liberal Democratic Party and Nippon Kaigi (both of which the "UN Party" seem to be based on), like Shinzo Abe or his war criminal granddad Nobusuke Kishi. I don't know anything about Suda's political convictions, but I would have to guess based on Killer7 that he despises the LDP for their ultranationalism and their unpleasant nostalgia for the time when Japan was a fascist state. The stupidity and pointlessness of the UN Party's desire to return to pre-WW2 times is probably a dig at this tendency in Japanese politics IRL.
It makes me curious which Japanese political party Suda supports, if any. Maybe the JCP, because they're in favor of Japan being more independent from America while also being adamantly against hyper-militarism?
He’s criticizing the Japanese nationalists who tend to end up in office. In Killer7 they’re depicted where they can’t get over what occurred in WWII, to the point of preferring Japan being destroyed if it means the US is hurt or destroyed as well. They despise how Japan is a relatively peaceful but not victorious nation, highlighting the absurdity of still being upset they did not fight to the death over 60 years later.
"BLOW YOR HED AWFFFF"
Shit had me rolling lmfao
Young, old whatever happens Kun Lan is in charge lol
Well... this was... Different...
Widescreen dolphin killer7? How? I can't find a gecko code for the US version of the game
Should be a dolphin settings, cheers
@@sal4 for stretching to 16:9, but not actual native widescreen. You need to get codes or patched ROMs to display in proper widescreen without stretching the image
@@davidlane1248 didn't stretch for me back jn the days, but was an older version
