virtually all crime dramas skip jury deliberations. most show us the crime, the investigation, the chase, the arrest, the trial and finally, the verdict. this rare film skipped all that, gave us the deliberations, and proved you could still make a great movie.

A very good example of cinematic entertainment relying entirely on the excellence of the actors. Everything important happens in one room and in a very reasonable way. It is a good example of how juries should work. Good reaction.

A stellar cast--the only vets at the time were Fonda, Cobb and the oldest juror, but the others all went on to great careers in TV, film and stage, especially Jack Warden and Jack Klugman. Director Sidney Lumot would go on to win lots of Oscars .Fonda was always great at playing men of dignity and leadership. AFI top 100, still a lesson for anyone involved in the justice system today, cops, juries, lawyers and judges alike.

The teleplay for 12 Angry Men was written in 1954. Don't know if women were allowed on juries in the jurisdiction in which this took place. at that time.

So we are just 3 or 4 generations away from the Civil War. Ed Begley Jr's father was the bigoted juror. The actor who voiced Piglet was the juror with the cough drops. The director, Sidney Lumet, locked the actors in the tiny room for hours, running lines, to ramp up the tension during filming. A great film .... ❤

This is a lesson in acting as much as it is in the legal/jury system.
At some point one of the characters yells "what side are you on?", like implying that their job is taking sides.
The theory works, a man is innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Some jurors seemed to have decided the kid was guilty even before the evidence was presented, based just in their bias for his background.

There are "perfect films" films noone believed in, but as time did tell, classics because all got right 1)actors, 2)script, 3)director, 4)writer/material
I know, many people have different opinions on "perfect" but to me some examples "lightning strike genius" are "Metropolis"(this movie from 1925 was made about 35-40years to early), "12 angry men", "Ghostbusters" 1984, "Das Boot" (the 5.5hour version) and (this one to me personal) "the longest day".

This movie is a prime example of what is missing from most of today's films. No CGI, no exaggerated plot lines or twists, no over acting, no unbelievable situations; just a great script and damn good acting!
I was previously picked for two juries; one was a federal drug case, and the other was a local murder trial. This film does a great job of depicting the deliberation process. The only difference is it takes place at a time when most states still didn't allow women to serve on a jury. The emphasis though is on the most important aspect of the US legal system; the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I refer to this as my favorite movie of all time, and it required little to no budget. There is a more recent remake that is a great movie in its own right, but doesn't do justice to the original. You get so wrapped up in the situation and the environment depicted that you practically sweat yourself as you see them suffering from the tension and the heat in the room. Absolutely brilliant!

This is one of my favorite movies ever and I enjoyed listening to this reaction to it, but I wanna point out one difference between the times that I find both funny and facinating. In 1957, smoking was common and everyday. There were cigarette ads, you saw people smoking everywhere all the time, people smoked in movies. Now, a youtuber goes to the effort to blur out every cigarette in the movie she's reacting to. SO MUCH has changed! And yet, this movie is STILL incredible AND so revelant. It's incredible

One of my favourite movies! Might I have seen like 4-5 times. Jurer 8th is a hero. After I had seen this movie I always try to be like him.
I have a question for everyone: who is the worst person in that room and why?
For me is the worst guy who trying to catch the ball game. Because he doesn’t have conscience. He doesn’t care anybody’s lives except his own interests.

my favorite scene in the movie is right at the end... when he helps him into his jacket. there is honor in defeat and treating your opponent with respect shows real strength. its something we forget especially in political debatess these days.. just because someone has a different opinion on a topic however wrong you may view that... that doesnt make them a bad person. do not judge people on their opinions, but treat everyone with respect and like a fellow human.

I may have been one of those who mentioned this movie some time ago, but good choice if I didn't Emma. This ia a great movie for its simplicity and its power to convey a good message to live by. Other older movie need people to see how well they were made even back then with low budgets, and may I suggest a few more older movies. Such as the 1968 "Planet of the Apes", the 1951 "The Day the Earth Stood Still", 1953 "The War of the Worlds" and the 1971 "Soylent Green"

If you want to see another Henry Fonda movie, Try the 1953 The Cain Mutiny. It's based oon a play about a supply boat in WWII where Fonda is the XO. Fonda was also in the play. Fonda was set on trial for mutiny when he defied the CO's order. It's an interesting aspect between the scenes before and during the court. Thank you for reacting to 12 Angry Men. It's one of my favorite movies although I've never been on jury duty.
