    Hi Ilias, great review! But I have a question... Your filters are 77 or 72mm, for your Viltrox 85mm if I can remember well, so, what ring adapter are you using for the 46mm filter thread of the Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.7 which it is also the same size of the Kit Lens... And if you can also please tell me where did you purchase it?
    Thanks in advance for your reply! And Greetings from México!

    • @IliasKoureas
      @IliasKoureas  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thank you mate! To adapt my filter on this lens I just put two step up rings on top of the lens. Since my filter is 72mm I used a 72mm-52mm ring and a 52mm-46mm ring. That way I screwed the two rings on top of each other and then on top of my lens. The rings that I use are really cheap and the company that makes them is called "Kiwi". They do the job excellent.

  • @anticrisischannel
    @anticrisischannel Před 7 měsíci

    A very interesting lens. I'm faced with choosing something light for my Z50, contenders are Sigma 16mm f/1.4, Viltrox AF 13mm f/1.4, Viltrox AF 23mm f/1.4 - and this Nikon 24mm f/1.7.
    There is a question - what about astrophotography with this lens?
    Once upon a time I had a 35mm/1.8 crop - overall it’s not bad in terms of aperture, but it’s a little narrow on the crop.
    Will there be enough grip when using this 24mmm f/1.7?
    Or is it still more logical and profitable, albeit more expensive, to buy 13mm or 16мм?..
    What do you think?

    • @IliasKoureas
      @IliasKoureas  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The viltrox 13mm is by far the superior lens for astrophotography.
      I've personally shot the milky way with the viltrox 23mm 1.4 but you need to do a panorama in order to get big part of the milky way. I would get the 13mm for astro and then choose between the viltrox 23, Nikon 24 or sirui 23mm for general work. If you want a small lens then the Nikon is the right answer. If you want great image quality the viltrox is the best choice. If you want an f1.2 aperture the sirui is the choice. It's up to you and your needs.
      Also here's a link to one of the panoramas I did with the 23mm (keep in mind to swipe to the second image to see the whole frame. Also the location had a little bit of light pollution) : instagram.com/p/Cy0rcJUsUXc/?igsh=MTBxcWphZmxubnhoNw==

      I chose the Viltrox for the following reasons.
      1. I found it for 100€ cheaper than the Nikon.
      2. It had the same filter diameter as my Sigma 30mm 1.4 so I didn't have to spend more money for new filters.
      3. I had the Viltrox 23mm on Fuji a couple of years ago and had no reservations in picking it up again. It might not be the sharpest lens on the market but I shoot it at 1.4 all the time and have absolutely no complaints.
      I'd say that people should decide based on their size preferences first and foremost and then the price. Performance is pretty much equal.

    Thank you for your test! It would be interesting to see how the NIkon 24mm compares to the Sigma 30mm. At least the Sigma still has a metal bayonet, is otherwise quite robust and even sealed, while the price difference to the Nikon is not too high.

    • @malekith13
      @malekith13 Před 11 měsíci +2

      It would be an interresting test but i can already see some weakness from the sigma :
      -Twice as big and heavy
      -A lot more chromatic aberration
      And maybe a slower AF too, most of the time sigma's lenses aren't as fast with their AF
      But i guess you'll get a nicer bokeh and better low light with the sigma.

      I really feel the use of plastic composite vs metal mounting ring is a red herring having used different lenses with the composite mount with absolutely NO ISSUES and then add the fact we are talking about a small very light lens I don't see an issue. lack of sealing could be an issue but that is common nowadays and to state again I can find no sign of wear or looseness in other lenses with composite mounts. and if it cuts a couple of hundred off the price then thats ok too. !

    You only zoomed into the upper left corner at f1.7 and concluded that it was generally soft in the corners. Without checking all the other corners, this is a false assumption. I have tested lenses where only one corner or one side of the frame is soft and the opposite side sharp.
