You got a deal. Last ptp wired Amos Fender ever made. Switchable channels. Effects loop. All tube. Mid boost. Treble boost. Transparent master. Gain control. Lots of features. My recommendation? Clip out the snubber caps and maybe use a 5751 tube in V1. That's all you need on this beast.
Sounds really nice with the LP-style guitar. The first time I ever heard a Concert II played live was back in 2015 played by John Heussestamm (52 re-issue Tele) and the tone was just mesmerising. The same tone as what I hear in this video. Truly unique sound.
I picked up an '83 Concert amp head today. I'm still playing around with it but I like it already. It takes my pedals nicely, as well. Thanks for the video. Your amp sounds awesome.
I got the same one, bought it new back in '84. My setting for the burn channel: just turn the treble, mid and bass all the way up and pull out the mid knob. That way you use all the tones it got. Volume at 10, gain between 3 and 8 depending on what you like, master at size what room you're in. Use the guitar volume for all the tones you want.
Great sounding amp!!! Great playing too!!! I didn't know they made a head version, so if it is a Concert put in the head cabinet of another amp, they did a really great thing. At $400, that is a great amp at a great deal!!!
I have one I bought new, Feb. of 1983. Replaced the Jensen with a Celestion 100 watt 12" and it is still fabulous. A real workhorse and very versatile. In 1983 they listed at over $700.00 and I paid $500.00, cash, at the old E.U. Wurlitzer Co. in Boston, one of the all time great music stores. It's very heavy, though, so I don't use it much anymore. It was my only amp for years and may be the best made, best sounding Fender I own. Hard to find used and you got a good deal at $400.00. Well worth it.
The best way is to connect the in and out of the MPX to the send and receive of the effect loop in the rear of the amp. If there is no loop you might want to try plugging your instument into the input of the MPX and patch the output into the front guitar input. You may have to adjust input levels on the MPX.
Hey Andrew, I have a chance to pick one of these up, $400 was a great deal! Couple questions... still happy with it? Keepin' it? Do you know if this amp was modded at all?
Yes, it's 60W. Search for stratopastor to get the schematic and manual. As the manual says, try bridging the effects loop with a cable for more gain/fun/adjustments!
@@michaelmathews9170 Simply a cable from the input to the output of the effects loop. When I used to play that amp a lot, almost always had that jumpered unless I had the Mu-Tron in the loop. IIRC, there's a knob next to the effects loop to play with when you have it jumpered. :)
That's an awesome amp ... I just love that lush tone, all that Fender / Paul Rivera goodness in the sound. Andrew Plays well ... and he brings out a lot of nice tones with the Strat. Who needs a Dumble? :) I'm tossing up between one of these and a Fender Princeton Reverb ll ... I wonder which would be the better amp?
Jonathan L The Princeton II is a good amp - 20 watts. BUT, channel two distortion is at the cost of reverb. The distortion stage is pulled from the reverb tube - thus, no reverb. The Concert (II) is a 60 watt beauty with quite a bit more control over the distortion. Take it to the ultimate, and install the Torres Engineering mod kit.
Jonathan L ...in addition, I replaced the original power tubes in my Concert with JJ tubes - 6L6GC's (Eurotubes.com). I cannot express in words what changing those tubes did for my Concert. MUCH improved the break-up. More musical. Definitely a cheap way to get a ton more out of that amp. AND, NO I don't work for Eurotubes.com.
+Jonathan L I have one of these and this amp is the most versatile amps I"ve ever played on. THe reverb is amazing, you can go clean or dirty and it sounds smooth as butter. Takes 9 tubes. 2 power tube 6L6's and 7 preamp 12ax7's.
I picked one up about the same time and really dig the amp. Does everything work on yours (the two channels) without the foot switch? Mine does not. I plan after the holidays to snag a correct footswitch for I do not believe the one I have is meant for the amp but the reverb will not work without it.
The channel switch is governed by the push pull vol. Pull it out for the second channel. The footswitch was an optional extra from new according to the Fender catalogue
sargentppeper Sorry for the late response. Original Fender 6L6 GC power tubes, (2) AT7s and (5) 7025 preamps. All have Fender logo imprinted. I do not believe the amp was played very much before I purchased it. The tubes are very strong. I am not sure of the original manufacturer of the tubes for this 1980ish amp.
I've had my Concert (II) since they first hit Guitar Center in Hollywood. It came with the EV-12 speaker which gave it a crystal clear sound, but added 20 lbs to an already heavy amp. 10 years ago, I installed the Torres Engineering mod for it which added more tonal headroom, and greater control over the distortion for both channels. Replaced the ORIGINAL Fender tubes (Groove Tubes) with JJ tubes 6L6GC power tubes about 5 years ago. Yes - I know, just about anything would've helped after 30 years on the original tubes, but it made a HUGE difference in the distortion, and tone. Recommended. Eurotubes.com. I don't work for them. Great amp as stock. Even better when modded. Lots of mod advice on the internet, or spend $99 on the Torres channel-switching kit, and find an electronics buddy that's not afraid to help you install it.
right on andy!!!!! good score..... i paid 450 in calif in 2015..... here r some settings to try out...... for the dirt ch..... to me it is breakup nicely and resoves to a good loud clean 4 leasds..... the normal ch is perfect.... ch switch is great..for the lead ch.......
One of the best amps Fender ever produced.
for the clean channel?

Best kept secret in vintage amps!
Great amps ...period. Lets all keep these a secret. Nice demo by the way!

I’ve got one of them in the Oak cabinet.
Sounds excellent!!
Wow ,amp sounds killer, nice playing too:-)

What were the drive, volume, master set at when you had it the highest? I have the head too and after drive on five it gets muddy/flubby.
Patch the effects loop and use it as a pre boost for the clean stage. Works well.
I have the 4-10 version. I love this amp. It's destine to be a classic.
Sounds really killer with the PRS!
Great tone and playing, btw!
Sounds sweeter than I thought it would, still like the bogner ,been thinking on getting one
I have the same amp and your gain channel sounds really good, any tips you can share?
Has it been modded? The lead channel sounds much better than most videos I have heard.
Hey Andrew, I have a chance to pick one of these up, $400 was a great deal! Couple questions... still happy with it? Keepin' it? Do you know if this amp was modded at all?
my secret tone monster

Please explain more on this topic

I love the amp and will never sell it. Finding the time to use all of my toys is getting increasingly difficult.
I have the 1993 love it
The 93 is a vastly different amp fro the Rivera Concert II
Totally different amp

Great demo, what power and preamp tubes do you have in this concert amp? Any Mods? Greatly appreciate it. :)

What speaker come with that amp mine got a peavey speaker in it but man it sounds good

I think when you pull out the mid it is a mid cuttest this by turning up the mid all the way play some then pull it out and play some more.
Try some KT-77 tubes in it, combines the best of 6L6 and EL-34 tubes

I have a like new Fender Concert II amp I bought about 15 years ago.
Sounds like a delay pedal on there
Beeastman123 - Lexicon PCM 80. Verb/delay.
You need the footswitch or your stuck with one channel.
Don't need the footswitch to get to the second channel.
The 2nd volume knob pulls out to get the lead channel.
No you don't. The footswitch was an optional extra. The dirty channel is simply a matter of pulling out the vol switch and you have your channel 2.
