Great review. Would love to see a comparison between it and the other apps incase you haven't done that yet.
From your comments about focus doesnt go to edges... perhaps try using the area limit as a composition tool , keeping in mind that the edge is in a good area to frame your subject almost like a thirds overlay
I love this app much more than all other video apps! It doesn’t make me pay for a ton of in-app purchases or subscriptions after I buy it! I hate when apps make you pay MORE after you already bought it!

The sun is out today and I will be trying BeastCam.
Thank you for the great review. From what I have seen of the app so far is that the cinematic stabilization is great for handheld pointing at things. For walking with it, POV style, I recommend still using a gimbal in combination with the stabilization to avoid the warping effect.

Awesome review David! I'm looking at upgrading to the new iPhone 13 Pro Max and GoPro Hero10. I would like to intermix both in FCPX. With that being said, would BeastCam play an important role prior to post for example, color correction? I would love to see what you would come up with in regards to both the iPhone 13 Pro and Gopro Hero10. Thanks again for an awesome video..... Now I just have to hit that bell and subscribe! 👍😊
A really well-presented and though out review. It was obvious that you had thought out the PTCs first, so you knew when you'd be changing angle - I remember that technique from BBC's Tomorrow's World!
As for the app, I've got it on my 11 Pro Max, and switch between it and Filmic Pro.
They are very different beasts (sorry!) and I really haven't used enough of it yet to really make an informed critique.
However, your excellent review just might persuade me to give Beastcam a very rigorous workout!

I've had BeastCam for a while but I find I keep going back to Mavis for the simple reason of being able to lock Shutter to 180º but let ISO still stay on Auto. FiLMiC Pro and BeastCam both have Shutter and ISO linked so if you lock one you have to lock the other. I also like the interface of Mavis more than FiLMiC Pro and BeastCam. But that's just me. I'm sure others with dislike Mavis for similar reason as to why I like it.
you can lock shutter on filmic pro without locking the ISO.
@@paulneedham9885 But ISO is still Manual in FiLMiC Pro. In Mavis ISO and Shutter are independent of each other so you can lock the Shutter and leave the ISO on Auto.

@@paulneedham9885 If you lock one and the other then has to be manually operated to change it, then it’s essentially locked as well.
@@LaithGraham Then its NOT locked in manual. That was my point. I use manual, can lock shutter and change ISO. Then I lock ISO so as not to have it constantly changing in a scene. Thats how most people do it. If you want just Auto then no you cant do that, as I agreed with you above.
What about LOGs and Flat Profile in this app?

I have an iPhone 11 pro. I am having a hard time deciding between Moment app and the Beastcam, considering both as hybrid camera apps. The Beastcam would any day win over moment with its 150mbps recording option, but moment's Flat profile is what makes me want to consider it. I am a Sony a7iii shooter and always shoot log. So that is why flat profile is a big plus for me. But if the 150mbps video would give more detail than the flat profile, then I would surely want to go with BeastCam. Any other alternate app suggestions are welcome.

@@David_Addison Its a great app! but it seems to be costlier that even filmic pro, which is the top of the charts app! Is there any hybrid app, with manual photo and video options like moment and beastcam that has options to record in LOG around the similar price range? Beastcam is at a sweet-spot with its price actually.

Should i shoot at 1080p resolution for youtube videos?
Good review but it is still second to MoviePro-pro video camera on iOS.
MoviePro can go up 190-200 M/bits.
I've just bought Beastcam. I like it so far. It crashed when I tried to transfer a couple hundred photos to my MacBook via AirDrop. The workaround was to select 50 files at a time.
That's great! I still use it everyday. I wouldn't blame BeastCam for that error as AirDrop isn't the most stable or reliable.

That was really interesting. However it seems Beastcam has no remote function? I usually work alone, and without Filmics remote function I would be lost. So to me this is a dealbreaker, even though I do like the UI you showed us, but yeah... not being able to control it from another device? What good is it when I can't even reach it?
I reviewed many camera apps alternative to Filmic Pro with has a remote function. But can't find anything with that 😔 Filmic Pro wants iOS 14 but I'm on iPhone 6s iOS 12. Don't want to upgrade to iOS 15 because of my phone.

Thanks. Since I'm a new occasional vlogger with Filmic Pro there's no way I'd pay out £50.99 to continue using it when v7 comes out. So Beastcam sounds like a good alternative. Thank you!

Note: Hardware-restricted modes, real-time distortion reduction are not available at selected camera settings. Video will be recorded in the original 16:9 aspect ratio with additional metadata. The decompression option will be available inside the app's gallery to convert the video to the appropriate Aspect Ratio.

@@David_Addison yeah maybe..: iPhone X is using the A11(10nm) while the XR uses the A12(7nm)...

That cinematic stabilization reminded me of the video stabilization found in action cams like the GoPro...

In moment is lagging in 4k fps drop how i fix it
I'm looking at replacing filmic pro because it can't shoot in 4k, 60fps. Can beast cam shoot this resolution and Dolby vision?
Would you suggest this app or moment app? I use ulanzi anamorphic lens 1.33 (3rd Gen)

@@David_Addison I teach REALTORS (estate agents) how to do video using their mobile devices. The PAUSE button allows then to do a segment of clips e.g. a home walkthrough - without having to use an editing software to assemble it afterwards. The PAUSE button is a BIG time saver for them.

I have some frame drops in moment app recording at 4K 60fps. I use iPhone 11 Pro.
Do you think I’ll have the same problem using beast cam?
Which picture profile are you using when frames drop in Moment?
@@David_Addison all three of them: log, flat and less noticeable in default.
That shouldn’t happen. It’s usually fine but I also experienced lag recently for the first time across the app, not just while filming. Try the usual things like restarting your phone and contact the developers if it doesn’t work 👍

I've jumped from Fimic Pro to BeastCam so this is Very important for me. Good explanations ~ thanks. I have a problem though???? When I open the BeastCam app the image on my phone is upside down. I'm using iPhone 12 Pro Max. Please can you advise ....
Solved issue (sort of); reinstalled app but this doesn't resolve the problem.

Get a VPN trial account my friend, so you’ll have an American IP address on your phone, then you can open an USA iTunes account and you’ll be able to download this app.

I don’t think so..: like it will work meaning you’ll get the stabilization from the gimbal but the time lapse feature or Hyperlapse spin mode etc those features are Mimo app exclusive... but the gimbal will provide its natural stabilization even with the iPhone default camera app...
You should check out and try the "Mcpro24fps" app for Android with Sony Xperia 1 Mark II, Xperia 5 and/or Samsung Note Ultra 5G.
