  • In this video I put my wiring on a diet. We rewire the truck with minimal wiring just to make it run. Hope you enjoy the video and it helps you learn what plugs and wire colors control what circuits in your idi diesel truck. Until next week, check out these other #idi #6.9 #7.3 #diesel #bricknose #bullnose videos! #makeitrun

    This video should be mandatory viewing for any new idi owner. It might be kinda long and tedious as you said. But it contains ALOT of valuable information that would answer so many new idi diesel truck owners questions. What is this plug? What does this thing do? I see the same question over and over in the idi groups. Thanks for taking the time to film edit and upload as you take on these projects.

    This was a bit lengthy but well worth the time, and very informative. I am currently in the process of trying to work through a wiring nightmare on my 88 F Super Duty frankentruck and this has been very helpful. Not only that, but your demeaner is truly genuine and I am now a subscriber because of that. Thank you, and God bless my friend.

    Back in the early 1990s, max Lagod of Hypermax put together an extraordinary engine package for a customer yearning to compete in sled pulling. With nothing holding him back, Lagod designed a 7.3L that included two Garrett turbos (which were state-of-the-art then but probably not manufactured anymore), a Bosch inline P-pump, custom injectors, a fabricated intake and exhaust manifolds, and slight cylinder head work.
    Surprisingly, much of the factory engine components were retained, such as the crankshaft, block, and pistons-although the connecting rods were heat-treated. Compression on the engine was 15:1, which called for ether-assisted startups. Soon after entering this wild IDI into area-sanctioned sled pulling events, the engine was banned. Not to be discouraged, the owner turned to drag racing. Rumor has it that the truck graced with this 7.3L beast put out 1,200 hp and ran quarter-mile times in the 9-second range!

    Thanks for the great video! I commented on another video about the glow plug system and I had one more question. Since I am adding a 7.3 GP kit to my 6.9 I’m not sure what all wires are but I see you have 1 extra red wire attached on the small terminal across the terminal with the white negative/ground. What is that?

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  Před rokem +1

      The little red wire is keyed positive power. So it gets positive power whenever the key is in the on position.

    • @samuelsolis6333
      @samuelsolis6333 Před rokem

      That makes sense, before I connected anywhere I first tested it out by getting positive directly from battery and my glow plug light turned on! But it did by itself and when I press it, it turns off. I suck at electrical so what does that mean? If I connect to something that turns on only with the ON position, would that fix the problem? Thanks for all your help, I can see I’m almost complete with this job, thanks to you!

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  Před rokem +1

      @@samuelsolis6333 Ya, you are probably connected to someplace that is always on. You only want it on with the key.

    • @samuelsolis6333
      @samuelsolis6333 Před rokem

      Man! I wish I lived where you live to tell how thankful I am, that I found your channel! I actually was testing something out and put my camera towards one of the glow plug connectors and when I hooked up to direct power like I had told you. I pressed the button for glow plugs and the light came off but with my test light on one of the GP connectors, my light from the tester turned on!!! So now I just need to find somewhere to connect when key is on the on position! Thank you so much!

    awesome video where did you get the gauges and how much where they none of mine work in my truck and would you no why after brand new glow plugs and new relay on a push button why my truck still starts very hard im thinking fuel pressure

      I found the new gauges on Amazon, they cost me $65 here is a link to a video showing where to plumb in aftermarket gauges
      czcams.com/video/j2Z2AEUD3D0/video.html
      The hard starting is more than likely air intrusion in the fuel system. Look at all your return line caps for moisture, look at the fuel heater on top of fuel filter housing, check the fittings in and out of lift pump, filter housing and injection pump. If you have any moisture allowing fuel out then air can get in, any air getting in will drop your fuel pressure and make it hard to start. Good luck with your project, God bless.

    • @DankoStojanovic
      @DankoStojanovic Před rokem

      I had (have) the same problem and mine was air intrusion. I think it is at the tank selector valve in my case.

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  Před rokem +1

      @@DankoStojanovic Blue nose my 6.9 idi dump truck had a bad fuel tank selector valve that made it hard to start. Then it would die a little ways down the road, restart and run fine again. I ended up putting in brass 3 way valves, cured all my hard starting and dying out issues.
