Thank you Frank Barrios for this short history of the barrios. I lived as a little boy not far from Sacred Heart church that I attended and received my 1st holy communion there. Fr. Albert Braun was my first priest in 1959. my father built our home at 17th and Henshaw, now Buckeye St. I went to school at Skiff elementary school across the street where the rental cars is now. We moved in 1961 from Pheonix to Idaho and never went back. I had the opportunity to go back on vacation in 2013 and seen the old church still standing today. Thanks again

Fr Albert Braun served as chaplain in WWI and WWII. in WWII he was captured at Corregidor and was a POW for the rest of the war.He risked his life daily serving his fellow POWS, stealing food and burying hundreds of the dead. He received the Silver Star and was inducted into the Veteran's hall of fame. He helped found Sacred Heart.Church and taught at St. Mary's He was a legend in South Phoenix where he was revered as a saint.Heard many stories about the man from Hispanics.

As an Irish-American who has lived here most of my life and enjoyed the friendship of many Mexicans and Mexican-Americans, I really enjoyed this very informative video about the city in which I live and so many of the people who built it! Fascinating! Thank you for posting this!

I’m trying to find anyone who might remember my grandpa’s restaurant on 20th St and buckeye (Henshaw). He owned it in the late 60s early 70s. It was called “Hector’s Fine Mexican Food” and before that it was called “Lupe’s Mir-a-Mar”, I think. Thank you for the wonderful video!

Informative video. Never knew this many Mexican Americans took part in early Phoenix. Tucson Mexican families are well documented and recognized .

I've always said this without knowing the history i was born and raised in East Phoenix very proud to be Mexican i take a lot of pride in my people and who we are!!! after the Mexican-american war and the US decided to just buy the land from Mexico what is know as California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico where do you think all those Mexicans went they just picked up and left...... that's very hard to believe the indigenous people who are native to this land have been here and always been here and never left!!!!! Now when you think about present day Mexicans makes up 56% of the population not only that im a union sheet metal worker/HVAC I've been on some of the biggest job sites this valley has ever seen I've been in construction for 17+ years since the early 2000's ever since i could remember Mexicans make up about 85% of the workers of all trades back then till present day Mexicans have always been the majority till this day!!! I always say my people not only put into your state taxes but built this city regardless of who likes it or not.. Thank you to all my proud Mexicans who take pride in who they are ✌💪💪💪👌
