    Cam is a perfect example of what I mean when I say AAU ball is ruining these players. It teaches them to be iso reliant and they don’t know how to play system basketball, they can only score and shoot in a rhythm. But what happens when you fall in the draft and you don’t get 20-30 touches per game they literally don’t know what to do with themselves

    • @johndavis9321
      @johndavis9321 Před 2 měsíci +11

      Yup the explosion of aau has destroyed many fundamentals of the game and as you said many young bball players today are comin up not knowin how to play a role some get to the league and are able to adapt but many end up like cam and completely floppin out the league after their rookie deal expires

      As a guy who was a victim to this, the coaches will tell players "I'll only start players that can shoot and dribble." What do you think players will only work on to get more minutes? They really didn't prioritize the little things like rebounding and defense cause they assumed it'll be automatic with the players they liked

    As a Duke fan, people really fail to realize that Cam committed to Duke before Zion and RJ. I really love Cam Reddish, but really wish he decommitted after specifically RJ committed too. It was great to have on the team, but it seemed to stunt his growth and confidence that he had so much of.

    Dude shot .36% from the Field playing for a Duke team where he not only was never double teamed but by Christmas teams just gave him open looks because he was shooting around 32% from the field and under 30% from 3.
    He also wasn't much on the board, didn't really playmaker and was uneven as a defender.

  • @abdullenoir1792

    His biggest mistake was not decommiting from Duke when Zion and RJ committed.
    Cam was a point forward for his entire high school career. He should have gone into a system that allowed him to be a lead guard (like Trae Young at OK). Solidifying himself at that point forward role would have pushed NBA teams to play him at that position. Playing the 3 and D at Duke made NBA teams categorize him as a wing.
    Top recruits should learn from this and go to a school that’ll allow them to showcase their strengths. Don’t just commit to these blue blood programs because of their rep.

    Cam reddish may not be an all star but when the hawks drafted him in first round in the 2019 draft they wanted him to develop like a star just like Trae did in the 2018 draft. But as years went by the hawks traded him for basically nothing. Because remember the 2022 first round pick the hawks traded for after they traded reddish? They receive basically nothing in return for him just a half a season in Knox. That's why his career took a downhill since he got traded to the knicks then again to the Blazers now in his 6th season we don't even know if he is improving or not. That's why nobody might not pick up reddish who shot below 35 percent from three.

The thing with Reddish is that people can't seem to get over what they thought he would be at this point. I heard so many people say that all Cam Reddish needed was the right fit and he’d blossom. Yes, fit matters for sure, but Reddish has been on four teams now and has never shown any signs of improvement. You could actually argue he’s gotten worse. I think it’s past time we admit he’s simply not a good NBA player. You could also say all of this about Bol Bol.

    He hangs in the corner way to much for the abilities he has need to move and flash more on offense and Hustle for rebounds lose ball steal on defense.

    Its not that he failed he just has been asked to do stuff thats not his specialty. Lakers want him to be a 3 point shooter when he's more of just a pure scorer. Theres a chance he breaks out this playoffs if used rite. Everything needs to go through him, spencer and rui in that second unit. If the coach let them rock itll work

  • @allackballack
    @allackballack Před měsícem

    He’s still probably one of the best one on one players in all of basketball the problem is in a 5 v 5 if you can’t consistently shoot you can no longer play in the nba. If he gets a consistent 3pt shot and the defense has to come close to him he will then be able to showcase his atheletic ability and finish at the basket until then he’s simply not a viable nba player. See Russel Westbrook, Ben Simmons. Hes really not a bust the league is situational even at duke by him becoming and off ball player that negates his best skills. He simply needs to learn to shoot really well from three and not off the dribble. That’s it. Not everyone can have the ball in their hands in the nba that’s a. Privilege afforded to very few

    Some of my fellow Knicks fans swore Cam could be a superstar, because he could do a couple of AND1 moves. They will die on a hill when they pick a player to stan for. Same with Obi and other bums we've drafted. They blame everyone, but the players for not developing. It's almost like they get off on being delusional.

If a team like the Mavs were to get their hands on him it’d be open shots galore for him 😬. All he’d really have to focus on is his defense.

    Actually this is easy, he’s talented, like 95% of 1st rounders but then it’s about fit and coaching. The 5% are so talented they could play anywhere the 95% are going to be role players, and can develop into good-great players based work ethic, attitude, and opportunity. The other side of it is being healthy also. You see the thing about the NBA it’s a grown Man’s game, nothing like college where you around peers all the time, students same age, similar lifestyles, you can make mistakes, and many of the coaches have a mentoring type of mentality. It’s competitive but allows you to grow and develop for those who stay. It also allows you to further learn how to be coached, criticized, and are often much more focused on fundamentals. In pro, you’re expected to know it and it’s more about skill development. Super competitive and you can be replaced quickly. But if you know about sports it’s better to be grounded in the fundamentals which then will enhance your skill development. So many of today’s NBA players are super skilled, but not grounded in the fundamentals of the game. The other side of that is being on a team where it’s a good fit. You see this all the time, a player sits for another team I get some limited minutes gets traded to another team, and all of a sudden he looks like an all star. It’s definitely about fit and opportunity, and politics, contracts, even marketing. I like Cam, I think he can be a really good player and just has to put his head down, work and learn. The funny thing from a defensive side. He is what the Lakers need. Just not consistent offensively. It’s also a lot tougher in today’s analytics game which I think is more frosting than substance. With a lot of the GM’s push and coaches three point shooting which is important however, at the end of the game how many times does it just come down to getting a bucket which nine times out of ten is a 2pt basket, but you see teams wasting possession on forced 3 pt shots which is a common theme in the NBA.
