The seal remind me of a suppressor wipe, very clever. Can’t wait to compare it to the pilot, majohn, endless creator, and platnum curidas. Only small tweak would be to brand the knob like a watch crown
Likes wants soon
How to fill ink
@@MookeshThakkarcartridge converter. Unscrew the nose cone, and pull the nib out the front. Wonder if a gen2 can make the body a two piece design to avoid inky fingers. And make it so the nib unit doesn’t rotate
I ordered as soon as I saw it. The kickstarter launched on my birthday. I considered it my present. 😊
A great present for yourself
Will Hodges from Tactile Turn should have made these a decade ago. Instead, he chose to make silly edc pens in wacky colors.
1. Despite a yearsworth of testing I can't help myself - I am skeptical about that seal.
2. For a drawing tool, decent reverse writing like this guy's is quite valuable.
3. I hope purchasers have better luck with their Kickstarter experience than I have had.
That's why Carlo tested it for such a long time prior to release. He wasn't sure how well it would work, but here we are. The reverse writing has been great
Yes, finally! Since I saw the ytShort I've been waiting for this review!
just put in for the kickstarter. thx for spreading the word on this, really psyched to get my hands on one!
I love adding to my collection when there is something different with a pen. First time seeing a retractable nib with that silicon seal and the bolt action, knew i had to have it and I ordered it same day!
Thanks for the review DoodleBud! I feel much more confident with my kickstarter backing now.
Another great review DB, I love the attention to detail!! I joined the Kickstarter days ago after seeing someone else's video on the Bolt, and I'm looking forward to getting my copy!!
Hope you enjoy it
Allow me to be on the negative side here: The bolt action reminds of a carry pen. Something that can be tossed around and kept in pant pockets. So I think if it handles jerks (not me) well, it has really fulfilled its design purpose.
On the other hand, it is a bolt action fountain pen! It is so cool!
I've been waiting for your view on this!
Doooodlebud!
Been looking forward to this one
Same here
I continue to enjoy your engineering focus and your apparent continued interest in alternatives to the screw cap design. As an artist, a screw cap is a nuisance and almost a deal killer, and yet the community continues to produce this inferior design. Thanks for showing us the few options for a more rapid deployment design. Regards
Hi DB!: Thanks for showing us this very clean and technically interesting pen!
For me, the constantly “dirty” pen is annoying.
I am waiting for mine. Thanks for the review! I never got a Pilot Capless because I don't want a clip so this is going to be great.
I joined the Kickstarter within the first day or so and I am excited to receive my Bolt. I already have several Ensso pens and they are all excellent writers. I expect no less from this ingenious pen. Thanks for the review!
I've been pleased with every pen from Ensso, he does great work
The hard part of backing early is you have to wait that much longer.
Watched it
Understand it
Loved it
Ordered it ❤
Thank you
👍
I'm super excited for this one. I ended up putting myself down for two of them so I can play with anodizing one and keep one mint.
I have an idea for a unique anodizing for this one but just trying to work out the best approach to do it
I just now got this notification for some reason@@Doodlebud
Carlo has also said that they will offer both gold and titanium nibs that will be able to be purchased separately, but not part of the Kickstarter.
Titanium nib would be perfect...
Im definitely going to get one of these when he puts it on his store. Im not a fan of that wipe seal though as the one on platinums retractable pen wore out very fast.
Backed, reminds me of the aurora auretta nib if you’re familiar!
This is gonna go great with my edc bolt action rollerball. Unfortunately I need to have a regular pen since I often have to fill out paperwork with carbon copies which doesn't work well with a fountain pen. Having both my pens be bolt action is gonna be very satisfying 😌
Just got my ensso bolt in the mail!
Hope you're enjoying it
Oaso already is doing this with the K016 and K019. Plastic versus titanium but same idea with the sealing.
looks messy? ink seems to be everywhere on the nib due to the constant contact on the silicon seal on deployment. cool product though! excited to see more bolt action fountain pens in the future.
[even if it isnt messy that ink gets everywhere, i still dont like the idea of excess ink not being able to be transfered to paper cuz it always wipes and spreads on the inside and outside faces of the silicon seal]
Not for everyone
@@Doodlebud indeed! still a cool pen! would love to see more alternatives in the future too! i really want a bolt action someday. but maybe not this particular one ;)
Looks like a really good pen. Too fiddly for a dyspraxic guy like me. But a really nice idea. Referring to your Majohn video it was my FC Hexo that came with EF, and B and M nibs. Sorry for confusion 😂
I think this might just join my Platinum Curidas as my work pen. Although my only complaint is it being converter only as I prefer to refill cartridge for that little extra ink capacity, but it's not a deal breaker.
Hopefully a long international cartridge fits.
@@MarshaLove0723 Nope. Someone asked them and they said the mechanism only works with the converter.
@@failedgrace2891 Ah. Too bad. Thanks!
What is the ink capacity of the converter? Thank you for the detailed look at this design.
I'm curious about your long term experience with this pen. Maybe a re-review when Ensso launches the pen for real...?
I'm planning to do an update after several months of usage
ahhhhhh cooooolllll
A lovely pen, but are the silicone seals available to buy when the spare ones have worn out? Great video.
Do nibs from a Chinese hooded pen fit this pen?
Round nibs aren't attractive to me but that "Bobby" mini-fude would be AMAZING on this pen
Not sure on that one. This is a custom housing built for this nib. If you did fit a fude, it might not work well with coming out the seal and nose of the pen
I would like to see the nib unit keyed so it wont spin
Can we hop on the delorian and set it for June? I got a two count for a slightly higher discount.
Hope you love them. I've been using this one non stop and its been great!
@@Doodlebud I can easily imagine this pen being my everyday, take everywhere pen that is always inked!
I got a similar bolt-action fountain pen, very inexpensive, a year or two ago, mostly because of so much talk about the VP and its imitators, the different closing mechanisms and mechanical works that extend and retract the nib. Some kitpen makers told me that bolt-action was only available on ballpoint and rollerball pens, not fountain pens, so, you know, I had to find and get one. It's a Chinese cheap-o, not brilliant, not a great nib, but it works. Iirc, it was listed on Temu or a similar site. The point is that no, this very cool pen is not a first.
I believe you're referring to the Lambitou one. That one looks like a bolt action but it's not the same. It's a click thst has the action moved to the side of the pen. It slides up and down but you don't turn it to the side for it to latch like a bolt mechanism
It’s almost the same dimensions as an Apple Pencil 2 - only slightly wider and a little shorter…for reference
Just got mine in the mail, curious if yours also rattles when the nib is not extended.
A question, Doodlebud. When you disassembled the knock, it seems like the retaining cap at the other end of the pen is machined to fit this particular converter. Is it possible to use other converters or even cartridges?
I haven't tried other converters in it yet, same goes for a cartridge. You'd have to use the long version cartridge. I don't have any long ones to try out at the moment
Did he say who manufactured the nibs?
He wasn't able to share that info with me
Where do I buy it at?
I mentioned in the video its on Kickstarter. The link is in the description
Does it rattle?
Not when you're writing with it. If you tap around on the body when the nib is retracted you'll hear a slight rattle which happens on some other pens I have as well. But for normal usage no rattling
WOW, first like!! Cool pen.
that seal almost looks like 3d printed tpu
That would be a very expensive way to manufacture the part
@@Doodlebud For sure, but a relatively easy way to prototype the concept. @6:35, the way it catches the light looks like extrusion lines from an fdm printer.
For me, the constantly “dirty” nib is annoying. My nib must be clean.
It really is just a ball-point pen with a fountain pen section. I hope you can buy replace gaskets cheaply.
Uhhhhh, there's a little more to it than that
Only if it was cheaper. As a student from a development country getting those will always remain a dream haha 😅
May I know details. Price how to purchase
I mentioned in the video the price and how to purchase. Details are also in the video description
Sorry to ruin the celebration but no, this might not be the first bolt action fountain pen, there's already a Chinese bolt action pen: the Lambitou 3092, I bought it around a year ago and it uses the same EF tubular nib as the Jinhao 85, 51a, Sheaffer Icon, et al.
I don't know about that though, from what I can see online it has a cap so what's the point of the bolt action on it if you still have a cap. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong 😊
That pen has a cap and it's not really a bolt action. The clicker has been moved to the side. A bolt action has a J hook type design much like on a bolt action riffle. These nibs are almost made in Japan
No clip on a pocket pen? No thanks.
Not sure if this one is designed as a pocket pen, its pretty long compared to other pocket pens like the Kaweco Sport, Gravitas Pocket, or Ensso Piuma Pocket
@@Doodlebud That's good to know. So many of these bolt-action pens are pocket pens, and when I initially saw the Kickstarter campaign, that wasn't clear (at least to me).
Ēnsso has mentioned on Instagram that there is a clip being developed
