Feni is a rare liquor made from cashew fruit, and it's produced only in Goa, India. While some brands are pushing to take feni to the mainstream, this family has survived by hand making small batches and selling locally.

It might look crude but as a food scientist, the microbiology and technology are spot on. The distillation set up is a case were appropriate technology is seen at its best. Hats off to these villagers.

It's a traditional drink in Goa name fenni and urak. For centuries our ancestors are keeping this tradition alive. It seems like unhygienic but it is not, after steaming it becomes pure. Viva Goa, India📍

exato, mas acho que por volta de 1520 para 1530 os portugueses devem ter levado o caju para Goa, já que haviam chegado lá em 1510, então em 2022 talvez o feni tenha feito 500 anos de criação da receita.

Really cool way to make Feni.. I loved the process.. no chemicals or extra items to spil the health.. pure fermented fruit juice and distilled.. sad they are only making 175ltr of it and it seasons only during Summers.. if I get a chance to do this village living, I will definitely try this one..

They can create their own tourist destination - by having tours to see their process. They can may be even create a few little cottages on their property so people can stay during that time of the year. Also they can create a social media - maybe with something like authentic feni made traditionally by a family with years of experience. Also, maybe market it with other drinks as a cocktail.

Basically the entire dirt gets filtered during the first filtration and whatever dust and other impurities get settled down during the initial fermentation.
When the juice is heated, only the vapor pass into the collection jar, since it's heated and it's spirit there is a very less possibility of contamination via bacteria or other foreign particles.

It doesn't matter, the liquid is boiled and only the rising vapour is condensed back leaving all the impurities and dust particles back in the pot. If you don't understand this let me make it simple. The ocean, it's has unbelievable amount of salt, dirt, all kinds of chemical waste and toilet waste from all the lands and country. Heck it even has oil waste that got spilled/leaked. But when the sun beats down on it the water rises as vapour and goes up and become a cloud. The same cloud which gives us rain. The rain is drinkable water with no salt, no dirt, no impurities. Doesn't matter if anyone put their bare foot on the ocean, when the water becomes vapour it doesn't carry them. Basic chemistry
