Cory you need to do a 10 min video on bacteria blooms, I don’t think I seen one on your channel. I got a 125 gal brand new setup and I’ve had a bacteria bloom for over two weeks. The bacteria aren’t starving and my water has no fish
Those turtles and the amounts - that is just ridiculous, if you think also that in some countries you can get only 2-3 species and you have to look for them thoroughly..
Hi Cory, absolutely love your videos, even more so the travel ones! Would be awesome if you could perhaps do a top 5 or top 10 places to visit in the world if you love the hobby? Female Raditz To blanch a vegetable, first boil water. While the water is boiling, put your veggies in. Let them boil for a minute or too. While boiling, vegetables should look more vibrant in color than before. After a minute or two, drain the water and let cool to room temperature. Then feed to your aquarium. Remove any left overs within 24 do reduce fouling the water. I wouldn’t recommend using a microwave although it’s less of a hassle. When using a microwave, the microwave is not only heating the water but it is also cooking the vegetables. We don’t want to cook them, we want to blanch them. Blanching breaks down the starches inside the vegetable without cooking (damaging) the cells of the vegetable. It makes them easier to eat and digest. By using a microwave, you are damaging the cells of the vegetable and those damaged cells don’t hold as much (if any) nutrition. Do the fish care? Honestly, I don’t think so. However, as pet owners, I believe that we should do the best we can and to me that means taking the time to blanch a veggie instead of cooking it in a microwave if that’s what you’re going for. I mean, wouldn’t you rather have a nice slow cooked pork roast instead of one cooked in a microwave? I’ve seen a lot of people use canned veggies with success but what would worry me about that is the preservatives in canned vegetables being fed to fish over a long period of time. I guess it wouldn’t be any different than preservatives in pre-packaged fish food. That may be an interesting topic. Anyways, that’s how you blanch a vegetable. 🐡
samb0slice how do you cool the vegetables do I just stick it in the refrigerator for a certain period of time or something if so how long if not then how?
Female Raditz Blanched veggies only take 5-10 minutes to cool to room temperature once drained but you totally could put them in the fridge to cool. Once blanched, that process is over and you can store the veggies in the fridge for future use. I wouldn’t do more than about a weeks worth at a time just to prevent them from getting too old. Always try to preserve freshness when at all possible. You’ll be able to tell if they are too hot by touching them. Slightly warm is ok, we’re just making sure they aren’t steaming hot.
