- Hi friends!
I'm excited to share this tutorial on how to build a DIY industrial modern farmhouse blanket ladder. I found one on Overstock.com for almost $250, which was nowhere near my budget for my master bedroom refresh. I instead grabbed some wood and metal pipe to create a similar look for under $50 🙌

🗣 THINGS I MENTIONED/USED
Supplies:
(2) 2x4, 6 feet long - current $8ish at Home Depot - bit.ly/3u9Apa2
(4 or 5, depending on how many rungs you want) 1/2" Pipe, mine were 18" long.
Galvanized option (way cheaper at Lowes): low.es/3ywHgxu
Black pipe option I mentioned (5-pack for $23): bit.ly/3456N2R
(8 or 10, you need 2/rung) 1/2" pipe cap - $1.65 at Home Depot: bit.ly/3f8IveD
★ Tools Needed (Links are what I have and used in this video):
Mitre Saw: bit.ly/3sfYlbD (optional, you could easily leave the 2x4's as is
Drill: bit.ly/318oCfR
1" Spade Bit for Drill: bit.ly/3gfgulv
★ Other:
Varrathane Sain in the color Briarsmoke: bit.ly/342Ixyf
Polycrilic or Ployurathane for sealant: bit.ly/2QA2b1h
★ Cut List and Instructions ★
Cut your 2x4s to the same length. I took a little off each end to clean them up.
I also cut 32-degree angles on the two bottom edges to help the ladder sit better when it was leaned on an angle to the wall.
We stacked the two cut 2x4s and clamped them down to drill the holes in both simultaneously to ensure they would line up. We found the center of the boards and spaced out our holes every 12" evenly.
I sanded the boards, stained them with Varathane's Briarsmoke stain, and then sealed with Minwax's clear, water-based Polycrylic.
The final steps are to insert your pipes, twist on your caps, and style with your favorite blankets. Watch the video for full assembly instructions. Happy building!

I used my kids Jenny Lind crib rails and made me a quilt -ladder. The left over spindles I will use to make both my kids and me-another ladder. 😊 can’t have too many ladders and I don’t thinkthey make these cribs anymore (from 32 years ago!)
I love old crib rails, they are such a great size and usually beautifully crafted!

@@Whiskeyandwhit oh awesome. Can't wait to make me one.
I have been looking to make this
That’s awesome, good luck with your build. 👍🏼
Oh awesome! Great minds think alike!
That really is a good 💡 thanks for sharing
Agreed, it’s a nice build. The goal is to inspire others to build one. 👍🏼
@@inspiringbuilds I'm not that good 😆
@@lachellefarmer8265 Builders make easy to follow instructions where you can do it! Even more advanced builders such as myself started small at the beginning. Think positive. 👍🏼
@@inspiringbuilds what i mean is i have no where to put it at the moment.
However I'm sure i can build one
@@lachellefarmer8265 That’s when I make one for a friend or family member.
You're so talented! I need this ladder!! I saw where you didn't find a Farmers market calendar. If you'd like one, I'd love to send you one or two if you have a P.O box I could send it to.
Hi Cyndi - that's so nice of you!
My PO Box is

Awesome. I'll get it out this week!
Love the wood working projects and the ladder is super cute. Why is your show called “Whiskey” and Whit? I mean it’s catchy. Just wondering.
Hi Ellen - it was the name of my wood sign business before I started CZcams. Honestly I liked how it sounded and it stuck. No grand meaning :)
❤️ this but I do have a question- do you need to put anything as far as adhesive where the rods attach to the boards to stop the boards from sliding inward?
Hi Rebecca, you can, but I didn't. They slide a bit when I move it, but when it's leaning up it's fine.
Hello, question....did you do anything to keep the wood from sliding inwards? Was thinking about even putting a little bit of 5 min epoxy on the inside edges of the pipe cap- so this way the caps were actually glued to the wood. Just figured I'd see if you might have had a way
Mine slide a tad, but you could easily add glue there. That would make it permanent! :)
Hi there , I love the style of your blanket ladder. I'm about to start building one like it. Just one question.. what did you use to stop the rails from coming in together. The caps are stopping them from coming apart but what's stopping them from pushing together? Thanks
Hi Jason! I didn't add anything to mine. Once it's up against the wall, mine didn't move.
@@Whiskeyandwhit oh okay, sounds good. Thanks for your response 👍
Could I use this as stairs for a play thingy like a non tree tree house?
Hmm, as far as strength, possibly, but I think you may want wood rungs for kids to actually climb on, I think the round pipes might hurt their little feet?
Can you link the metal pieces and end caps?
Galvanized option (way cheaper at Lowes): low.es/3ywHgxu
Black pipe option I mentioned (5-pack for $23): bit.ly/3456N2R
(8 or 10, you need 2/rung) 1/2" pipe cap - $1.65 at Home Depot: bit.ly/3f8IveD
??? How do you prevent kids from getting the blankets off and pulling them down on them or putting dents in the wall
Just tell them not to touch it? If your kid isn't like mine, you could probably mount it to the wall. Lol
The Forstner bit that you use is 7/8 but that was too big
I ended up using a 13/16 and that one worked fine.
Glad you found a size that worked for you!
Hi there! I'm sorry this is random and not related to this topic (which I love and will be doing, I'm about to be banned from your channel by my fiance because I'm making him help me with builds now...haha).
Do you happen to know if the scoring wheel for the Cricut Maker is interchangeable with the stylus tool for the Cricut Explorer Air 2 in card/card pop-up making instructions?
Thanks for all you do, I love your creativity and basically, I exclusively make your DIYs, they're adorable and fits my esthetic. 🙂
Hi there! So glad you like my content! The Maker attachments are not interchangeable with the Explore Air models. I believe you can use the stylus tool in a Maker but not the other way around. I hope that helps!
@@Whiskeyandwhit Thank you kindly!
The overstock version has terrible ratings. Yours is way better!
Agreed, the industrial pipes and caps is nice!
Good call! I didn’t make it past the cost before I ran away 🤣🤣🤣
@@Whiskeyandwhit lol some furniture stores have their prices through the roof as well as all companies are experiencing shipping delays due to shipping carriers not being able to grow fast enough to support the demand of online ordering!
GIRRRRLLLLL, I WAS LOOKING ONLINE TOO & THE INDUSTRIAL BLANKET LADDER 🪜 COST $395.00 + S & H & TAXES. SO, I SPRAYED MY CAPS, PIPES & BRACKETS BLACK, SCREWED PIPES/BRACKETS TO THE FRONT & APPLIED A BIBLE SCRIPTURE ON 1 SIDE OF THE LADDER 🪜 THEN SEALED THE LETTERS WITH MOD PODGE. TOTAL COST $75.00
Yay!!
