The Motorla RAZR 5G is a retro, throwback phone lovers dream. It has the same form factor and dimensions of the original RAZR that took the flip phone world by storm two decades ago, but now it is a modern foldable phone. Folding phones like the RAZR 5G and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G are cool because they have smaller footprints being able to fold in half, all thanks to the foldable OLED panel display. the RAZR 5G doesn't look as exciting or powerful as the Z Flip 5G on paper, but after picking one up and using it I have to say that I was wrong... and I like it a lot!

I learned this the hard way in the last 5 years with âspecification creepâ devices. Just go with the best performance battery price ratio or much better go after your hearth because sometimes the less logical is the best decision.

So far, it's been an ok experience.
I agree with you on these points:
-speaker placement
-day to day experience is nothing different
-intuitive external display
-confidence in the hardware
My battery experience has not been good tho.

Really ? How longs your screen time ? I was worried about the battery life but so far this past month since I got mine, it's been good not great but for a light day 3-4 hour screen time it last the entire day till I charge while I sleep
I love my Motorola Razr 5g! I ended up getting a black matrix skin for it and its my favorite phone experience I've had since my iPhone 4s. I have had a lot of phones over the years and the nostalgia factor alone along with the technology has me hooked!

My top tip: don't put it down on any surface that is not perfectly level. It's coated in some kind of frictionless material that makes it very slippery. It will slide off.

I do appreciate that you changed your mind. Bottom line, though, is that whatever you think about it now, it took a thousand dollar price drop before you bit, unlike your Z Flip 5G purchase. And that says everything, unfortunately, that both Samsung and Motorola need to hear.

I've had one since it came out. No issues with the screen. One thing I'll say, the wifi connectivity is broken. They've improved it greatly, but there is only so much you can do with faulty mechanical design.
Ok so this is my take on the RZR 5G. Right now samsung and apple pretty much run the cell phone market. Motorola not so much but people tend to forget that motorola made the first cellphones such as the star tac and Razor. whats so special about apple? Or samsung? This phone may not be for everyone. If you want a portable phone that works for the most common things the RZR is perfect. If you want a phone for gaming and watching youtube videos all day long is best to stay away. for 500.00 at T mobile this phone is a steal. I had the RZR 5G returned it for the flip 3 because I believed some of the hype and guess what? I miss the RZR because its a much nicer phone and quality is exceptional. Yes people talk about terrible screens and damaged pixels but lets not forget that people take care of their phones differently. I have never dropped a phone in my life yet a co worker does it all the time. Get the RZR and save 500.00 because until samsung can figure out how to make a working outer screen and be able to respond to texts motorola has the edge. And yes the flip 3 has better specs on paper but lets not forget that the RZR is a year old vs the flip. Imagine what Motorola has up their sleeves.

I've had the best day to day user experience with the Razr 5g as well and use a Note 20 Ultra 5G daily. Great underrated device.

@@MrRaiderg77 well, If you're with TMobile you can get the RAZR 5G super cheap right now. If you can't get a really good deal on the RAZR I would say get the Z Flip 3. It's just way better in so many ways for the same price.

I have this phone currently and I really like it lol Battery life is so-so for me, just depends on my daily usage.
Sadly, mine does have a small separation on the left side of the display from the frame, but it still works great đđ»
I have straight up yeated this phone across my room on acident picking it up off my desk to fast and it didnt even have a scratch. Breaking this screen while its closed is honestly a challenge.
I have the razr 5 g have issue with speaker when talking on it. Vibration an cracking sound. I have tried different solutions online but didnt fix it.

Q, how does the battery hold up in cold weather. I'm a skier and my Iphone travels in my top front inside jacket pocket . 2nd how is the Bluetooth range. while skiing I play tunes from my iphone to my helmet.
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with this phone in colder weather like that. I live in Houston, where it's over 70-90 most of the year. I'm sure it's perfectly fine for cold weather. Definitely keep ice off of it so it doesn't melt anywhere. But I haven't heard about any issues with it in colder weather from people using it.
Does face unlock work from the small screen without opening?

I hope you see this but I'm still using my s9 I love this phone but it's dying on me lol at the time when I got this s9 snapdragon Chipset in it was top of the line and I'm scared that lower tier chip set in the RAZR 5G won't hold up as well for me cuz I like playing Xbox game pass games on my phone and idk have you really pushed that RAZR chipset to its limits and what do you honestly think?
@@frenchtickler915 yes seen this. my RAZR 5 g is going Hella strong had no issues at all. I have a ps5 , series X and a handheld PC for gaming. I use my phone for phone stuff surfing web CZcams etc.

I agree, I want it to be a bit longer flipped shut. It looks so sleek and elegant flipped open, but then flip it shut, and itâs short and squatty.

Now the flip 3 is out how do you still feel? I still prefer the moto honestly because of the front screen though.. Samsung still doesn't have a full feature front screen and still has a big crease.. I don't care about processor that much too.. I much prefer the razor style..
I wouldn't talk crap about ANY crease if I were you for multiple reasons:
1. The Razr 5G and the Huawei Mate X2 have AT LEAST TWO OR MORE CREASES because of the zero gap design that they use. Samsung is too smart to use that method.
2. The crease on any foldable phone ISN'T visible under normal usage. Nobody with a working brain uses their phone, tablet, laptop, etc with indoor lighting or outdoor sunlight shining directly on the screen.
3. The act of folding (which is different than bending) a thin material produces a crease. We can't defy the laws of physics.
P.s. It's Razr. NOT Razor.

That is just what people call it.. razr only had faint lines but no big dip is what I mean.. and no, that is not smart to have that.. razr is perfectly flat the whole screen.. it is not about it it is visible, it is about a dip that messes you up if you are drawing, or writing, or anything really.. I know razr is better screen because I have one and went and checked out the new fold.. it is a big difference.

Z Fold 3 owners don't have huge complaints regarding the crease with S-pen usage.

This is my third 'upgrade' in 2 years. My venerable Galaxy S8 suffered a swollen battery that pulled the case apart. It's replacement, a OnePlus Nord N10 5G already has a wobbly, loose camera mount. I'm going to give Motorola's fancy folder a chance. I tried finding a used one on a few auction sites but they wanted nearly new prices. Ordering one from T-Mobile directly lets me spread out the pain of a $500 phone over a year and get warranty and device protection.

Referencing AT&T. I've learned through previous experiences that even though unlocked you'll have to utilize their network to obtain Android updates. If you have friends or family on AT&T service, perhaps you can sim swap and upgrade that way. Personally, I picked up a $30 pre paid card and will once my Mint service ends in a couple of weeks. Once Android updated, back to Mint until next year for Android 12. If anyone knows how to bypass carrier services to receive updates please let me know. Assuming this applies to all unlocked carriers.

Probably the best decision I made as well when I bought this in Ebay. I used Samsung flip 3 and Huawei P50 pocket but nothing comes close with the experience I had with MR5G. If you're not into specs then I can assure you, you will not regret buying this.
I just bought a mint condition razr 5g on swappa for 380 shipped. But, for some reason it makes a static/buzzing sound when recording a video. Anyone having this same issue?

@@TechOdyssey Yeah, I restarted the phone multiple times. Even had it factory reset, it went away after numerous of video recording, then it came back. Will need to get in touch with motorola now.
@@TechOdyssey Update: Got the replacement from motorola and the first thing I tested was recording videos. The audio on the videos I recorded still has that static audio regardless of me restarting it and factory resetting the phone. Also, the bottom half of my screen started to flicker. Hate that I'm gonna swap it to the z flip 3 since I really love the design and the bigger outer screen. Then I am more of a motorola fan than samsung..

A week in Loving my Razr 5g, call clarify & service is awesome, such a beautiful Device T-Mo 499 Awesomeness, I had OnePlus 7 Pro, no regrets.
Get the RZR 5G! I had both and just bought another RZR. Its a much nicer phone. The flip 3 looks like a foldable slab. no style and yeah it may home some upgraded features but all that goes out the window when you cant even respond to a text without opening the phone
Had the Z Flip 5G and the Z Fold 2. I'm currently rocking the Moto Razr 1st gen non 5G and it's awesome. The specs are enough for my use and haven't had any problems in comparison with the other foldables from Samsung. The OtterBox case for it just gives it that rugged design that I like. And yes, it's not boring like the flat glass sandwich design that it is on every other phone. The experience is great and nostalgic to be honest. Btw great vid

It's one of those nostalgic phones. Definitely not a daily driver I think but a good device to have as maybe a secondary device đ€. That's how I see all of the folding phones. I use my fold 2 as mostly a secondary as I often switch back and forth between IOS and Android. Definitely curious to see how the S-Pen pro changes the usability of the fold. Definitely miss the note this year but ehh maybe next year we will see our friend again.

Hope Motorola releases a successor to this. There are not a lot of phones with emphasis in design and Motorola nailed it with this one. They should keep releasing updated ones in smaller quantities coz they are not going to make much profit out of this but it will help their brand stand out.
There will be a third generation in 2022. Supposedly, it will be a redesign. The date has not been determined but the device has been confirmed by Lenovo.

I love the form factor. I hate the way I have to worry about my S22+ falling out of my front pocket all the time. I used to have a RAZR. I like the looks of this way more than the Flip. The only reason I haven't got this is the battery life. It would drive me nuts having to charge so much, especially since it doesn't charge wirelessly like my S22+ does.
You should work on your posture and correct your habit of âcockingâ your head down and to your right. I watched your video at 1.5X speed and the amount of times you move your head that way almost makes my neck hurt lol

Main thing I absolutely hate about this phone is the funny angles when it's closed. If you put it on slick surface like a granite countertop itll slide right off the counter onto the tile (which happened to me the second day I owned it and it cracked the whole back of the phone). Other than the that I absolutely love this phone. I was really hesitant to buy it cuz of the reviews especially with the last model. The exterior screen has it's pros/cons but overall it's the best phone I've ever owned... period. Oh and A CASE IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR THIS PHONE!!! Knowing what I know I know now I wouldn't have even left the store without one.

Thanks for your honest opinion. I e watched 99.9 % of the zflip Moto Razr videos. The flip is top techie. BUT the Razr sure is much better looking hardware wise. Do you think I will be dissatisfied getting the Razr? My current phone is iPhone 12 mini.
That's a hard switch if you're invested in the Apple ecosystem. Then again, freedom has a price. The question is, do you want to pay it?

And the razr 5g the screen doesnât crack unlike the flip 3. Motorola does something with their software and components. The phones run nice and perform great with not having the best specs. Like the moto one ace 5g that phone is actually a beast it performs better then the one plus n10 5g. And that says a lot. So yeah. And same with other phones. Like the G7 was good too for what it had. I noticed that with a lot of moto phones they are cheaper well not the razr but in general and the phones normally perform close to flagship most of the time. Like the one ace 5g legit is fast and feels good and is not flagship level but using it doesnât make u feel like u have a really inferior product. The razr 5g has one advantage no screen breakage what the z flip 3 has. So take that for what it is worth.
It goes to show that you don't need high-end components if you can optimize Android to run on it. Plus, Motorola phones are known to work for several of years before it finally starts to slow down, unlike Samsung which tend to slow down their devices to a crawl after 3-4 updates. Samsung wasn't that way 7 years ago, but they sadly followed Apple's greedy path.
I got a razr myself last week, after seeing your vids, for about the same price too. and after a day, I was unimpressed and I told myself, 'okay, im going to return this'. it's my third day with this phone, and surprisingly enough, like you, I don't want to take my sim out.. maybe it's growing on me, maybe I'm lazy'! I think it's a great phone too. I'm just conflicted on if I want to keep it or not! perhaps, like what my friend told me, I was just looking for that dopamine hit đ đ
IMO when it comes to a phone like the razr it's more about the portability. Idk if I myself could go back to having a phone like that but it still looks cool like the original razr which I did have back in the day.
How's battery life
Iâm getting about 4 hrs max SoT at 5-10% battery left. Not great but if you donât use it heavily sim get you through a day. Depends on how hard you are on your phone and what your average screen on time looks like

@@Oriolus1 I donât like the placement because Iâm always accidentally covering it up. Also though I understand why they didnât add a second. Even the Z Flip only has one speaker and at first I thought that was odd for bingo such an expensive and premium phone, but then you look at the size of the battery and the battery life. Adding a second speaker would further drain the battery on a phone thatâs already not that great. It doesnât seem like much but it would. So, Iâm on with it until they can find a way to get a larger battery/better battery life.

Dude get you a Tello line for $14/mo and keep it! I agree this phone was a huge sleeper, loads better than first gen.

I went from a zflip to the RAZR 5g, I couldn't be happier. Nothing having to open the phone all the time is great. The zflip isn't a bad phone though.
If you get the watch you don't have to open the phone all the time since you can talk and text from the watch!

Considering in buying razr after 1 yr of using z flip. Should say a word about samsung's "durability": my screen cracks each 8 months, and im using it gently! Its happening cuz of this samsung's "foldable glass" sh#t, that's why i want razr with normal plastic display without these show offs with foldable glasses.
very similar body design, but hardly the "exact same dimensions" as the original razr phone.

I just picked up one from Ebay for $400 always wanted to give this phone a try but had really bad reviews for the prize ill try it out.
