Regularly would see comments that say, "Carey Price isn't a great goalie. The puck just hits him."
Maybe the puck just hits him because he's a great goalie.
Lol people said that? Oh my NPC's have been a thing for a while it seems
I remember Mike Bossy saying something similar about goaltenders in general once live on TV, i couldn’t believe that someone that mastered a part of the sport so well could simultaneously be completely clueless about the other side of it.
Back in the day they would say Gretzky sucks too. They would say he is a goal suck, all he does is stand in front of the net and tap it in. Then when he started getting less goals and more assists. Oh he sucks, all he does is stand behind the net and pass to the open playing out front.
Every good goalie apparently sucks!
🤣
My ego hopes I see something I said. My wisdom dreads the thought.
lol
Unironically, same.
I had the same thought
Same.
Oh no not ppl doing some shit talking about sports! 😱
At this rate in 10 yrs they're just going to give every team a Stanley cup🏆. Can't tell if it's because the world's getting too crazy or soft.
"Player X is a bust" - meanwhile, players X is 19-20 years old.
And they’re already millionaires if they signed an ELC. So i think they’ll have time to figure out their life if they really are 😂
Blaming a goalie for a loss even though they posted a .920%
That’s the dumbest thing
As a goaltender, gosh did you nail it. Most “easy saves” are the result of hours and hours of grueling practice on positioning. Also, almost no shot is truly an “easy” shot because anything can happen!
Playing beer league, as a forward I try to just get puck to the net shot quality doesn't really matter as long as it gets there rebounds deflection anything can happen. Goalie is the hardest position in hockey every shot can be dangerous
We would’ve won if they called the game fairly!
Shots 47-12 in favor of the opposing team
Or worse, opposing team was 1-1 on the power play, our team was 0-10 on the power play. LOL
@@johnburns9634 Sounds like the Kings
Statistically yes, its very very unlikely that 12 v 47 shots would give you win with perfect officiating, but hockey is an incredible sport, where things like that can happen
@@somerandomidiot1333💀 Sounds like the Caps as well 😭
@@Mr_Ink0gnit0
Yes, but if you complain about the refs, but your team goes 0-10 on the power play, maybe you need to take advantage of the opportunities that come from said power play.
Some opposing fans don’t realize this when it comes to Facebook, CZcams, etc, I never consider an opposing team trash….but the opposing teams fans are sometimes trash.
My favourite this season is blaming the ref when you're 0/14 in PP chances for the series
Dear The Hockey Guy
I have been a hockey fan since I knew how to watch and I played from the time I was 3 until I was 18 competitively. You are doing a damn good job! Every video you do is unbiased and straight to the sport. Please don’t stop doing you! As a leaf fan I have been forced to watch every other team due to my team either being crap some years or in most cases, getting beat out early. I feel that the league is so closely matched right now, as long as you make it to the playoffs it’s anyone’s game. It’s good for the sport to have it this evenly matched. That was the point of a salery cap and it worked. Yea it needs to be adjusted but the game is healthy.
Same here buddy, agree with all of that. Go leafs!
Just announced: Marchand is suspended 41 games for hurting feelings
I hate it when anybody in hockey is called soft. Sure you can say a guy "isn't that tough" or "isn't a hitter", but if a guy's soft he isn't in the league. I also saw a ridiculous claim from a fellow Oiler fan online who must be very young to make such a foolish claim, where he said he doesn't think Skinner cares when he allows a goal (he was saying this in game 3 against the Canucks). I can get deep into goalie psychology but the point is, if a guy didn't care about a goal against, he wouldn't be in the league.
@isaacwest276, "soft"- gets banded quite a bit on Sabres channel @RoamHockey.
Hopefully if Eric Robinson extends with the Sabres Wayne will slowly cut down the "this doesn't hit nearly as those there playing". Fans are always fickle if the result falls in their favour or not. 👍🏽
@@shuyelbari8853Soft is the perfect adjective for how the Sabres were coached to play. They were explicitly coached to not hit, not fight, etc. to try and draw penalties. IDK why guys listened to the extent they did (with guys like Krebs even taking punches to the back of the head and refusing to so much as turn around), but they did, and they certainly looked soft for it.
I don't care if you're a hockey player or just a normal guy, but if a guy has the gall to punch you in the back of the head I expect a reaction of SOME kind!
@chrismdb5686 , a punch for a punch. Otherwise opponents will think your a doormat & ppl can walk over you. Fingers crossed Lindy Ruff trims the lightweights and put steel in their place.👍🏽
'I hate loosing, no playoff run for Sabres'
cit. famous words of @Chris Durrick, @Roam Hockey.
Along with the first one, I often see the response, "Yeah, we are trash."😂
As a Rangers fan: “Yeah, we are trash” lol
@@GregAllenF1You just scored! Hang in there!
@@bartsanders1553 I appreciate it, but it’s so over for the Rangers lol
😂😂😂
@@GregAllenF1good news buddy you survived
Fans say the darndest things.
The competitive athletes I met often said “play well” at the beginning of matches, because they wanted the sweet victory to be against the opponents best play.
I 100% back the "4th game madness board" idea. That's a really interesting thing to look at.
The _ are trash is hilarious in the playoffs, because it is literally the top half of the league battling it out, trash teams didn’t make it or even came close to making it.
Quite a few good to decent teams didn’t qualify for a multitude of reason.
Also the 65 shots one made me think about how people are judging how goals are made by a specific player, i remember people downplaying the 30-40+ goal scorers that we’re the grinder type vs snipers, skilled players, etc. Recent examples of that are how people called Reinhart or Draisatl power play merchants ... that still doesn’t take anything away from their goal amount ?
Your comment about marchand and suspensions had me laughing out loud 🤣
When we were in youth hockey, the coaches always told the kids, ‘Respect your opponent.’
That's excellent coaching.
"Gentleman's sweep" is something I saw a bit of during the Tampa/Florida series. People were claiming Florida didn't win game 4 because they were being nice or something like that. It doesn't make sense. No team is willingly letting another team keep them from a shutout series win out of sportsmanship. I've heard people claim it's always a joke, but 1. this is the internet, and sarcasm isn't readable, and 2. "Gentlemanly sweep" is a phrase for a reason, because some people mean it.
That’s hilarity. Given the number of times Tampa has ruined Floridas day, I’m unwilling to accept the Panthers would have given them an inch!
@@Neon002121 Tampa wasn't even on Florida's radar this year. They were more concerned with Boston and the Canes wanting revenge. Even the Leafs would, but they're a total joke.
Heck, teams don't even refrain from running the score up in the playoffs if they can. All sportsmanship goes out the window once the tournament starts, it's just about Lord Stanley.
1:30 THG predicts Rangers vs. Canes final score
A pet peeve of mine is people blaming refs AFTER their team blows a big lead in the game or the series. You shouldnt have been in the position to let one call cost you.
Good example is the game 7 penalty in 2019 Sharks vs Vegas. Yes the penalty swung the momentum but Vegas below a 3-1 series lead to even be in that position.
Great conversation. Here in Australia, finding a hockey fan is like finding a virgin in a maternity ward. So I never get to talk to anyone about anything hockey
Similar story here in NZ
@@defectiveindustries bet . Is there a league down there in the north or south islands ?
Same here in Perris California...
@aussiekid3588 recently got a video recommendation of a livestream of a NZHL game.
@@aussiekid3588 There is a 5 team league but it's the equivalent of a US beer or high school league. It's average
I really like the second one. Peeps should just think for a moment how exhausted and focused a goalie has to be to make 50 to
60 saves in a game. The question in these games should be where the hell's the defense.
Love when you mash up hockey with comparisons to wrestling! My 2 favorite things to watch!
There are no "trash" teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
false, the bruins are trash
There are definitely better built teams for playoffs compared to others. The reg season game is far different then the playoff game as reg season plays to many games in to few of days in a physical sport such as hockey. I understand feelings get hurt these days so I think everybody is a Stanley cup champion this year, congratulations.
Mid at the very worst.
This year is the first in a while where I disagree with this statement. I think there were two truly bad teams this year.
My favorite one is always “(insert hockey expert’s name here) hates my team.”
The thumbnail has that "I want you to go over THERE now." energy CZcams seems to like.
I do the same thing when playing poker. "Oh he sucked" "Well hope you get a chance to beat a good player one day"
as i've heard it said in many places before: "keep your expectations low. that way, you're never let down, only disappointed or had your expectations exceeded"
right now my expectations are rock bottom, so nowhere else to go but up!
or straight forward i guess.
I liked your comments about the old time wrestling, a great comparison. Great video as always.
Hockey guy is funny dude… Not ha-ha funny…just funny in a nerdy way…300k followers agree
I enjoy your takes! Very interesting thank you
Shannon cannot be more right about this. Hockey fans both online and offline can be so annoying to deal with for these exact reasons. It makes it BOTH worse and funnier when I play recreational and beer league games down here in South Florida, and someone from Minnesota, Canada, and even Michigan talk so much trash about how I probably “suck ass” because I don’t come from a “traditional” hockey location, just for THEM to eat their words but still complain and talk trash in someway about somehow I still “suck”
Fragile egos
@@chrismdb5686 for real, it makes for very funny moments though
I've always felt like it makes no sense to say an opponent is trash. It diminishes a win and makes a loss embarrassing. If you're calling a playoff opponent trash, it looks like you're not interested in assessing the situation; you're just making a feeble attempt to hurt somebody's feelings or something.
The garbage is trash
Indeed it is 😂
Nah, you're way off base there. Trash is garbage. Saying anything else is a bad take
@@LARGO125 garbage is trash, bro
And the trash is rubbish.
"Your team is compost."
Never heard anyone say this one.
Start something new, it's sort of a backhanded compliment?
In other words, your team has "room for growth."
Boom.
😁👍🏻😎
There's an old country song that says, "God is great... Beer is good... And people are crazy"... That about sums it up, Shannon
I hear this one ALL the time: "The refs are obviously in (the opponents') pockets" to try to explain away a loss.
You forgot to include the "butt bot" comments on your list.
We need to score first. Never heard “we need to get behind early”.
I hate when someone says a championship win was a "fluke." Like, winning 16 games against the best teams in the league was a fluke? Sure, son.
Talking up is exactly what Bednar does in all his comments post and pre game
I like reading comments from previous years after trades in the vein of Juolevi or Puljujarvi etc. is a good trade for us, they just needed *a real chance* to succeed.
Sure, they only received frivolous or willy-nilly chances before. It’s not unusual for a player to be taken 1st through 5th overall and be treated haphazardly, eh whatever, we’ll just wing it.
I think it does say something when one franchise keeps having issues w/ high picks (Turris, Strome etc.) that do much better after leaving. It could be things clicked as they reached 22-23 vs. 18-19 but otoh a talented player should produce anywhere, go onward/upward as expected.
I beat the sound! Woohoo!
I've seen it enough that I'm superstitious, and never want my team to sweep a first-round playoff series (hockey or baseball), because it never seems to work out in the next round. Like, in a 5-game series, I'd rather see a 3-1 win. 4-1, or 4-2 seems about 'perfect' in a 7 game series. A little adversity, but not too much, and an extra day or two (but not too many) to rest up between ;)
Boston pizza is for winners
Winners get sprinkles!
Good for you Shannon, a self confessing, self depreciating individual!
Never thought I’d see a THG thumbnail with the old German salute
He looks polish so he can get away with it.
You should pick out a comment every week and roast them 😂
You're not the only one! I think it'd be very interesting to see if the 4th win is really the hardest 👀
If your opponent is bad, how come it took 7 games to beat them lmao
They got lucky! And the refs!
inconsistent player safety rulings is a fair comment imo

Boston Pizza? Yeah, I'd like a loaded pepperoni and bacon squarefooter, and that Montréal Smoked Meat Poutine.
Thanks, Shannon!
Wise words - love the way you think. Totally agree 👏👏👏👏👏
Reminds me of the late 90's Wings when people said in 98, "they'd have won with any goalie". Then in 99 when Osgood got injured and they lost to Colorado. "They'd have won with Osgood". Pick a lane please! 😋
I am all for more and longer suspensions!
I assumed players saying the opposing team is good was just another stock answer for the media, like “give 110%” or “leave it all on the ice”.
In re to point #1: you don’t understand. My hatred of rival teams far exceeds my love of the team I cheer for
As a hockey fan who also likes football and who is sick of the financial imbalance in that sport….why can’t we be more proud of the cap in hockey? It’s not perfect but it’s fantastic overall.
This isn't a specific comment, but any fan proposed trade I see in a comment let alone on CapFriendly I immediately ignore. Fan trades always involve high-profile players and draft picks, and said fans have little to know information about other teams' prospects, AHL players, cap situations, depth players, etc.
That last one is lived out to the extreme in the NYR fan base
I would add “team x choked since they were ahead in the game/series and then they lost”. Very annoying, since having a lead is no guarantee of a win.
😂😂😂 I was about to call you out about counting teams down 0-2 out. You were all vegas then lol. I stick by my stars win or lose
I'd see those ones after Igor stopped over 50 pucks... "those were easy stops." Really, Dude?
Wow, that’s a record.
I had to back out of 9 20sec videos to watch this.CZcams really pumpin them add dollars here!
"Yeah our team is almost there, all we have to do is trade this bag of pucks, a 5th round pick and a half filled can of coke for "
You should try the shocked face to see if the algorithm likes it 😅
Last point get amplified in the Playoffs, so it can change from period to period.
No secrets? What about Silovs? 😅
Team loses 1-0/2-0
"Its our goalies fault we lost 😡 "
6:35 hold on, let him cook...
To be fair the capitals were pretty trash
As a Florida fan, every team that Florida beats, the opposing fans always always ALWAYS say "no cups" as if that matters for THIS season, and "no fans" as if they didn't just see a completely filled arena.
The coping is bad.
Rangers fans that said Rangers in 6 losing faith in the team for not winning in 5. Like what the heck, have some faith, it’s sports
Itwas funny when Tocchet joked that Demko would start Game 7, but it was funnier that people seriously said De Smith could/should start Game 7.
Watching some fans crazed reactions to one of their players getting hit with a clean body check is priceless.
The one I hate is what is used in every playoff series, oh its gonna go to 7 games because Vegas wants to make money
Shannon " Reverse psychology !👍
The 4th game will always be the hardest. One team will not be moving on - that'll energize the team! "So-and-So didn't play like that when he was with our team! What happened to him? He's playing great!"
basketball and hockey discourse on the internet is so braindead.
Is actually so bad on Instagram and TikTok it’s not even funny.
You can add football to that
all sports discourse on the internet is, really
@@atpyro7920 i dont really watch other sports so idk but i believe it
I learned early into my Hockey Guy comments that Sarcasm isn't understood as sarcasm. I have changed the way I comment because of that
Sarcasm online lacks a lot of interactive context(timing of a comment, underlying direction of a discussion, little looks and delivery, etc). It also doesn’t help that comments tend to exist almost in a vacuum as commenters can say things but never make it clear which part of a 3 hour video they might be referring to.
Add in poor grammar/sentence structure in communication and one often needs to realize walking away is the only wise move.
That 4th win stat sounds like a fun day on hockey reference. Could also see which game is the easiest according to the numbers of game 4-7 to win for the leading team. Is it easiest to get a sweep or win in game 5? I'm invested now lol 😂
My goalie had no chance on that one. Just ignoring the fact that NHL goalies make a handful of really difficult (or impossible) saves every game on average...
I remember a football player from a great defense back in the day said that they were so physical and skilled that he could see the fire go out of some of the opponents eyes over the course of a game. So, they don't necessarily give up, they just become some combination of sore, tired, and frustrated. "Fatigue makes cowards of us all" - Vince Lombardi
Totally agree with everything you said. Maybe except for the claim that the rest of world would not find a stat on "is the 4rt win the hardest". That would be a nerdy stat and who does not like nerdy hockey stats?
What I hear from fans that makes me think is "We want a great ref!". No you do not. You just want a ref that miss all the penalties your team makes and call a panelty everytime your players fall.
So true about that last part on the refs. People can't just enjoy the sport.
Lets hope McDave shows up today
Game 4 Avs gave up before the puck dropped. the nichushkin suspension did a number on their confidence
I'm sure it had an effect on the list cker room and organization, but they are a professional sports team, recent Stanley cup winners and aren't going to just "give up".
But, hey, whatever you need to tell yourself to cope.
@James_Bee did you not see the team game 4? They had no heart at all. Just because they are pros doesn't mean they have emotions. Big Val doing this the second year in a row betrayed their trust and had an HOUR to process this. I am saying this is not cope but to give a possible reason why they sucked game 4
The one thing I will say about teams giving up, yeah the really good teams don’t, but go a tier lower, and you can see it. Best example I can think of is the Blues in the TJ Oshie era. I can’t remember the year or the opponent, but there was a series where you could see when a few players were just mentally done with the series. And I think this was the game before they were eliminated. The team had okay goaltending, but could not score, so if the other team got 2, they figured they weren’t winning
I went to Dallas/Colorado game 4, we ended up next to some of the most obnoxious fans we've ever had the misfortune of sitting next to. One guy, all game, was yelling insults about Dallas. The Avs were losing basically the entire game. We're down by three and you really think the other team sucks? What does say about our team?
My sympathies for going to that game. That game doesn't count for me as a Stars fan. Stars just need to not lose 4 times to win the series.
had this playing on the drive home, and had to pull over to safely laugh ar Brad getting 82 games suspended if us fand ran player safety. so true and so funny. thanks for that after today
I agree with your thoughts here, especially the first one. The Stars played the 2022 and 2023 Stanley Cup winners in the first 2 rounds. They're scary teams and I didn't pretend that wasn't the case. It made every win that much more rewarding. It's the playoffs. Every team here has the potential to rise to the challenge and steal a series
The 4th win is definitely hard to get in the 2nd round right now. The elimination games are 0W 5L for the team that could move on and it looks like we’re about to go 0W 6L. I mean if the Canes come back from 3-0 to beat the Rangers in 7 well we’ll see what happens in the offseason then.
I love this take. People's reactions are pretty funny.
One thing I think is very true is that any athlete at the professional level is good. I would say this is true in the AHL and other leagues, but in the NHL, they are all extremely good. I remember when I first got into going to Capitals games in the early 80s. Back then I could get a front row seat just to the side of the netminder. Watching that close, I got a good idea just how quick and how skilled these players are.
In terms of so and so "choking", a lot of times they are playing through injuries. I don't think we always know who has a nagging injury and who does not. There are many factors to how a player performs.
I seem to remember a certain hockey guy, not naming names, calling the for Vegas over dallas after the first two games this year. Reverse jinx right!
Okay. But..... Sam Bennetts sucker punch is at least a game suspension.
Wait nhl tracks missed calls in playoffs? So why in the hell is kelly sutherland still allowed to ref
Unions.
My favourite is the classic: "ThE REFS ArE gEttIng PAID oFF tO HelP ___________ Win ThIS SeRIes/GAme." The stupid conspiracy theories crack me up. lol
It has become about 50% of the comments related to any playoff game. It can be exhausting. I don't know why people watch a sport they don't trust to give a fair result. I don't know why players aren't screaming about it if it were true either.
Imagine leaving it all on the ice, scoring a huge overtime series winner and then seeing most of the internet saying it was scripted. Guys break bones, lose teeth, get concussed, and wreck their bodies for this sport and people just say it's scripted. It's insulting.
In baseball, there are only two or three times a team up 3-1 won a series 4-3. The 1912 Red Sox and 1967 Cardinals ; it's possible there are a couple others.
One that gets me is "this coach needs fired" (said coach won the Stanley Cup recently and turned said team around from mid at best to Stanley Cup contender) like as of its the coaches job to put on skates and do it himself
