The trouble is Messi is so great that people only judge him by his standards. If another unknown player arrived on the scene and did half of what Messi does in any one game the world would be buzzing with the arrival of this new magnificent talent. Messi does the abnormally brilliant so regularly it becomes normalised in peoples mind and they expect it. He is a genius no doubt and has taken football to the highest level that it has ever been played at. That’s what Pele did in his time, and Maradona in his, Messi has raised the bar to the new level. I doubt very much I will live long enough to see any better. GOAT and glad to have witnessed it.

Its funny that despite the amount of absurd goals and plays he already had made until 2009 that header goal against Man Utd at the Champions final was what made me feel like he was really something new and incredible. Like, Messi is only 1,69 but the timing and height of the jump and also the precision in which he put the ball so far away from, at the time one of the best goalkeepers, Van der Sar was surreal. Was just so out of character but yet so much perfection. Of course, Xavi was simply one of the GOATS as playmakers but so much could had gone wrong, but this is Messi and that was a moment to defy logic and discern the good from the greatest.
