I've been a fan of Morissette ever since first meeting her and seeing her perform live in Manila at a Christmas party that her manager David Cosico invited me to about 10 years ago. It's been a pleasure watching her rise to stardom and enjoying her performance from afar. I've never done a reaction video before, but I enjoyed doing the first one so much once I found out "Phoenix" is Mori's original song I decided it would be fun to listen through and react to her ENTIRE new "Signature" EP of original songs.

When this was released covid was raging in the philippines & around the world and still does. You don't have to watch the video to apply this song of hope to about anything. Just listen to the lyrics. Personally I liked the pandemic video references because this is the one biggest crises that the world is dealing with! 10 years from now if we are dealt with another crisis this video would still be relevant. This is a song and video of not just hope but also of survival, and resiliency! I can't forget the expression on the face of that guy selling pork rinds (chicharrones), smiling over that mask. The guy just smiled, his earning a living for him and his family depends on how much of this he can sell when everyone is pretty much staying home! He just smiled. Mori wrote their song!
I totally agree with your comment on those random pictures at the closing end. For those in the local scene, those might not be unusual however for everyone else around the world it might seem awkward and it does feel out of character. It seems the focus in telling the story of Morissette changed. The international audience suddenly hit with faces they have no idea whether it was a general symbolic figure (security guard, street cleaner, ice-cream vendor..) or someone related to Mori... But we are glad a musician/ artist of your caliber took notice of Morissettte, thank you, David.
I love seeing the frontliners in this video. This stamps their heroism at least in Mori's Phoenix. Hope, that is what I get in the message. Beautiful song.

I believe the reason she put those images of the people wearing mask was to see what the pandemic has done to mankind and her getting tested for covid has put all the world through and that just be safe wear your mask and we will all someday get through this we will rise like a Phoenix so those images is to give hope I thought it was a beautiful song of triumph

The song is an inspiration song to overcome adversity, the pandemic, etc, that is why the photos are in there -- we will overcome Covid and all other obstacles in our lives and reach for the stars - achieve our dreams, despite all these problems. I was in Manila in March 2020 when the Pandemic actually hit the Philippines, and they shut down everything. I was kicked out of my hotel, my other hotel reservations were cancelled, and their doors were chained shut. My flight was cancelled, all transportation was stopped, it was crazy. I was supposed to be in Manila for at least 3-4 weeks, I was there for less than 1 week. Roxas Blvd was deserted! I was walking up the middle of Roxas Blvd to the US Embassy. There was no need to, but they shut down the whole country. The ferries shut down, the taxis and buses shut down, the airways shut down, etc.

She was originally going to release this song in 2020 as an inspiration to people not only her music journey. She explains this in one of her interviews with reactors. This song was supposed to come out before Love you Still but they decided to release Love you Still first then Phoenix. That is why the Covid scene was put in to give perspective that we will overcome this. So the song is about her journey as well as an encouragement to others.
Ever since she released this song, this is my anthem. I always listen to this song when I feel so down. This helps me to get through the sadness. I have no limits, and I will rise like a phoenix. What a message. Always hits me every time. ❤️

I like this song the most. I wish to comment on the video production though. I wish this video had adhered to, had not abandoned, the superb production lineage of "Could You Be Messiah" video, where all elements were tied together in delivering just one message.
I've always believe in "one story, one video", meaning all video elements are tied together to enhance that one story and not deviate from the story line.
“One story, one video” - is the story about a person’s rise from zero to hero, rags to riches, failure to victory, bondage to freedom, etc; or it’s a country’s story. Either option can be developed, but putting the two together becomes very challenging, full of potential pit holes, to tie together and will require time to shoot and reshoot, edit and reedit, independently viewed and reviewed and so on. Rushing things is its biggest enemy.
There can't be any excuse because once it is out, it is out. You can't put back the genie inside the lamp.

To me you just don't get the BAD. Rise like a Phoenix is what humanity is doing despite covid, and oh is it REAL. It contributes (the masks) to the meaning of the song, and takes it to a higher and more universal level - YES. Consider.

According to Morissette the whole second verse was referencing what was going on in the world with the pandemic. She misses doing live shows. So why wouldn't you show how things were. Doing live shows hi-fiving all her fans to whats going on now? I think it was a great touch.
