- Ngāpuhi wahine Claire Wihongi-Matene is facing charges for making dentures without certification at her home in Kaikohe. Dental care is unaffordable for many in Northland and her clients Piripi Matene, Avis Stewart, Moe Milne, John Tahama, Gloria Davis, Jim Davis and Danny Watson all speak out in support of Claire.

Dental costs are ridiculous. When did the mouth become separate from the body?? Without being able to chew your food properly thats a big negative for health and wellbeing. Want me to get a job, make me look pretty, please!

Unbelievable. Some jealous dentist couldnt handle her skills being sought after. My own denture story was a nightmare, this counrty now has a govt that doesnt care about the poor, so, look after ur teeth kids

Clean your teeth twice a day kids and stay away from sugary drinks and food .
Dentist are a scam. Training done on kids most still having bady teeth

This is vindictive by the govt and govt entity because she's Māori, as a make-up artist I was taking moulds of people mouths to create theatrical teeth, which I learnt in 3 weeks from my study at cut above academy and perfected while working in the industry. I fail to understand why the health department thinks it is 4 year university process to learn to buy mouth mould and a bag of dental alginate for the impression, from the story, that what the problem was, her ability to take a dental impression. I believe dentist that complained did so out of spite for losing his/her overpriced income from dentures, common sense can prove that this dentist wants us to believe that some people that couldn't afford the original price went and had them made by Claire Wihongi-Matene only to the overprice dentist they couldn't afford to complain. Yeah Right ... or the dentist have someone attend only to establish a complaint.

NZ is over priced by a 1000% even in Brazil dental treatment is more affordable than here.
NZ medical system and treatment is 15 years behind and NZ is truly 3rd world.
