Window restoration | How we saved €45,000 by up cycling

- Here at the workshop we are passionate about up cycling and reusing old materials to show you that a small budget can stretch a long way.
Today we are working on 3 sets of the windows from the Templar suite in the chateau, some just need a good clean up and new putty, but the rest need re-glazing. With 46 windows in the chateau and the cost of €1,000 per window, if we were to have them made, it is a lot of money that we do not have. So watch how we save thousands of Euros by learning how to do it ourselves.

In March 2020 we purchased an abandoned historical monument in France, with a small medieval chateau, farm buildings, acres of land, a lake and the old Relais De Poste.
With no previous experience in renovation and just a small budget of €80,000 , We want to show you how we were able to transform the chateau into a thriving business and save a historical building from crumbling to the ground. By using as many old materials as we could find around the estate, up cycling furniture we found in antique shops and learning the skills we required along the way, you will see it is possible to turn a dream into a reality.
Here at the workshop, you will see the projects we take on to help us reach our goal. If you would like to see the full renovation from day one when we collected the keys, you can join us on our other channel at @ChateauDeMontmagner Please subscribe to our channel and help us save a piece of world history. - Jak na to + styl
Your new channel is a good idea!
Now, my advice, do only one project per episode and add the proper word in the title and hashtags. This video needs the word window! Restoring old windows or something like that.
You already have many good diy jobs on your first channel, but the projects are lost in the mix and people looking for a specific diy can’t find them …
Wishing you all the success, hope people will find you. You do a great job!
👍
I'm really liking this new channel!
Excellent video, it took me back to the 1960s I was about 10 and my dad showed me how to put a new piece of glass in the kitchen window. Yes he used small pin like nails and then the putty, it was linseed putty I loved the smell of the putty. He said the trick with the nails was to slide the hammer along the glass. My dad also showed me how to hang wall paper. Dad was an engineer and was great at diy around the house. I'm a little older now but still try to do the decorating around our house.
People will learn so much from watching your videos, so we'll done that girl.
Cheers Millysue
That's such a cool memory 👍😁
I think you discribe everything so well even I could do it !!!
I always thought puttying was almost a 'mystic art' Thank you for simplifying it and showing how its done. I second the comment about putting 'window' in the title, it would make catch up/or specific question, so much easier to find x
I agree!! Although I’m not sure my talent matches Lesa’s. She makes it look easy…
I never knew it was so easy, but saying that it’s you that made it so. Thank you.
Wonderful Leisa the window restorer
Brava, Lesa. Wishing you and Ted all the best with the new channel. You deserve many more subscribers for your hard work, imagination, clever adaptation and reuse, and likeability. It's hard to remember what the place looked like when you arrived.
I found that very satisfying, you have both done so well learning new skills, thank you for Sharing with us xx
Thank you 👍😁
Lesa, you made the puttying look so easy. Brilliant!
Your chateau is Heaven!
Thank you 😊
Your new vlog is fascinating. You’ve gotten really good at editing and your music is incomparable.
Thank you so much!
I will never restore a window but I feel like I could. You are a born teacher, Lesa. You explain it sooo wel!
Thank you Nicolet that's very sweet of you to say 😁👍
Perfect timing for this particular subject! I am starting to build a salvaged window greenhouse retreat for myself and have been nervous to tackle the reglazing. I am unaware whether we have Linseed putty in Canada but hope the pot I purchased will work as well as yours! Wishing us both luck : me with my windows and you with the new channel!
Leesa is such a good teacher - isn't she? and she make it look so easy too. Good luck in your project!!!
I’m from Canada. My Dad used putty with linseed oil in it.
Learned a new skill today, Lesa & the window installed looks lovely!! 🇺🇸
€45k?! That’s insane!! You’ve done so well with that.
Looking great! Good lesson! Well done
Your a wizard, Lesa the queen of recycling. Xxx
Fantastic! Xx
Thank you! 😊
Lesa has got her window rehabs down!!!
Another tip when you want to cut glass: wipe the line where you want to cut with a bit of terpentine and your glasscutter will go really smooth.
Good tip, thanks 👍
👏👏👏. Brilliant Lesa. I like the idea of one project per episode. Can’t wait to see a full episode of Teds woodworking magic.
Annie & Brian ❤️
I can only imagine how hard it would be to remake all of those! The are amazing when you are done!
Billy Petherick seems to swear by wooden strips instead of putty.
You are a great teacher by the way
Nice project! Looking forward to seeing more projects.
Lots more to come 👍
I think all of the new skills you picked up in the past few years is absolutely incredible. Love you both.❤
Straight back at you Peter, hope your well 😁
The windows turned out very nice. Thats how my Dad always fixed our s. ❤
very good idea this new section especially since recycling is topical?..... can't wait for the rest
Smashing the glass out makes so much sense. I’ve spent ages getting putty out without braking the glass anymore than it is.
Great job Lesa!!! 👍🏻 I really love how you explain your process. I never knew about the “chalk” tip.
Really looking forward to more DIY’s, recycling, and fabulous tips and tricks from you and Ted. 😉🐶🥰🙏
I remember helping my dad and he always painted the window pane channel first to seal the window from any wet weather and so the putty wouldn't dry out.
Nicely done as the normal Lesa, and look at the money you have saved by doing the repair. ❤🎉
Well done, nice video and hope this channel grows quickly
Enjoying the new channel xxx
Lisa Shows Us That Woman can Do DYI ……. thank you Lisa
You have done a fantastic job on this window ❤
Thank you! 😊
Love the new channel Lesa! Such fun to follow all that you and Ted do. Love how you all are bringing the old chateau back to a great life.
Thanks so much!!
Thank you Lesa, I enjoyed the video, very informative.
I'm now off to watch your other channel (of coarse Subscribed to both). They are both entertaining and very enjoyable.
Wishing you all the best. 💐🥂🍾
Thank you 😁👍
Dont forget its all in the hands!People like them,no idea why,but if you watch selling channels theres alot of hand flapping!
O,the putty was a bit ASMR,too!
I'm so excited for you ,your so talented I really hope your channel grows, can't Waite for your next one
Thank you so much!!
Love the tutorial, well done!
Aww found the new channel 😀
Great tip re the chalk, one to remember ! For the painting of the wood with the glass in place, in the past I've done something similar but have used a postcard stuck right into where the glass meets the putty, paint the wood and then I move the postcard further along the edge. It usually doesn't require any use of a blade after that.
Great tip!
That was great looking forward to the next video ❤❤ great job by great people ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Great to watch and a good explanation of how to do it.
Glad you enjoyed it

You can do it!
Another great video! I hope this channel is successful for you!
Thank you so much!
Have you tried Tikkurila paint? They colour match, and made to withstand harsh winters, might be worth price comparing 😊 love the moulded sanders but can’t find any for that price, great deal!
Congratulations on your new channel!
Thank you!!
I very much enjoyed the format !
Glad to hear it!
That second window had so many holes in the stone on the outside. I wonder if it was some kind of jail room?
Love the video ❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Hello and hope the new channel takes off for you both.
Just a suggestion try talcom powder instead of chalk, ( I think it is mainly chalk dust anyway, should save you a lot of effort.)
Thanks for the tip!
❤🇱🇺❤🇱🇺❤🇱🇺🇱🇺❤
You guys make it look easy, amazing job
Thank you!
Good job Lesa! 😊
Thank you! 😃
Cool idea for new channel
Glad you think so!
Looking fabulous 🎉
Thank you 😊
awesome

It would be interesting to see you fix all the small items you have in storage so they are ready for use within the chateau. I like you are slowing it down so people can understand technique and how much supply you need to do it. I like how you had used new windows to fix in your own accom's I hope you have solved the problems with the roof. If not Sean at 'SeansWorld' has done his own roof and you can see how he has fixed his. Can you link all the products you used in this video even if people can't buy from there. Maybe list some products from the UK so we have an idea what to buy. If you want it to match the paint you have selected would you use a dye in it? they putty that is or will have to find a brand that has coloured ones. In a house I think people notice ;)
Hi,you just paint the putty when dry. 👍
🏰🏰
❤
Like the new channel. My comment, less talking less repetitive music, more time lapse. Text on screen... Video needs to be Shorter
😊
🥰🤗😘
You should have worn a mask, the old paint would have had lead in it. Good luck with the new channel.
No lead in the paint, when you purchase a property in France you receive a full diagnostic and part of that tells you where there is any lead paint in the property. But always good to check and as you say, wear a mask if there is 👍
🌟👏👍🍀💐
Where did you get the moulded plastic, are they available in UK? Google videos
It is Putty, you can get in any DIY store 👍😁
@@TheWORKSHOPattheoldRelaisI think she was asking about the black plastic mouldings., well I hope she was .lol
would talcum powder work ? to remove the linseed oil etc
Yes talcum powder will do just as good 👍
The Putty Queen👸
Hello Mr & Mrs Hobbs 😁
@@TheWORKSHOPattheoldRelais Who😂
Can you use like body powder or will only chalk powder work?
Apparently body powder too, but I have not tried it 👍
Hi ❤
Hello 😊
Watched the workshop and I just don't understand why you needed a 2nd channel??? Doesn't make sense.
How long will you dry the putty before painting?
