Before us and Lenny Henry realised he was black, you can see the setback and suffering and the lack of acceptance in his poor eyes, such a pity he only realised years later when is career and popularity had wained that he’d suffered such racial abuse as a child. Poor soul.
This is why TISWAS was so good. It wasn't just for the children but for adults too. And at the end there was Frank Carson! I wish I'd seen that sketch because he was brilliant.
I just LOVED this programme, back when I was a kid. OTT also. Watching this bit years later, it still stands up to me in my 50's. I'm guessing that the only thumbs down comes from a kid because, although it was ostensibly a child's show, we can clearly see the humour going waaaay above their heads.
it's funny that Sir Lenny of Henry did a radio program about how he'd never had anything to do with Shakespeare at school - and later plays Othello on stage But maybe his first exposure to Shakespeare was with Benny from Crossroads on Tiswas
I used to lie awake at night worrying about Benny - is he really like his character? If not, he must be a blooming good actor ... and what’s a blooming good actor doing in Crossroads?
"Oh, for a muse of fire that would ascend The brightest heaven of invention! A kingdom for a stage, princes to act, And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!" Henry V Act 1 (prologue), William Shakespeare
@@andymerrett You now have to say „ Mentally challenged“ no wait … it’s „ Other Learners“ now. As i live in Zurich I can still say Zurückgeblieben“ (Backward) and it’s still politically correct.
This is just ridiculous and insult to the intellect of your average viewer. You'd have to be stupid not to spot the actual Benny upon first sight. Of course it's Benny A. No mistake.
For a 10 year old kid as I was in 1980 this was quite brilliant. my dad used to watch it too.
we both know why your dad watched

I met him once. Seemed like a nice man.

Fun fact. Paul Henry (Benny) was the producer's choice to play Godber in Porridge.
I love stuff like that ♠️
That would have worked.
But got typecast in a soap.
One of the classics this!
Ah yes and there goes The Last Post *cue laughter from Paul Henry*
Legendary show and clip. Cheers!
Probably one of the few times that Lenny Henry was actually funny.
Even then Benny was funnier
😂😂
In your opinion.
It do be good to see the Benny there!
@@hamishanderson6738 🤣🤣
I think the one thumbs down was from the real Benny who is still upset because he didn't win.
The "real Benny" was actually just acting up which was part of the fun of Tiswas.
Lenny was at his best on Tiswas
Then it all went downhill.
Shame he turned out to dislike white charity.
Brilliant programme. Looked forward to Saturday mornings as a kid.
I used to lie awake at night worrying about Benny - is he really like his character? If not, he must be a blooming good actor ... and what’s a blooming good actor doing in Crossroads?
:D I miss classic Jaspar Carrott too...!
Apparently he did Shakespeare before crossroads!
He wasnt wearing his overalls, when we seen him at the airport, we were on the same plane to spain
Its ironic that the REAL Benny sounds a lot how Lenny does now...
The non-consanguineous Henry brothers- Lenny and Paul!
Was the Spot the Benny title card artist also responsible for the Bullseye credits?
Yep... Chris Wroe.
This is so funny, there is nothing like this anymore, Dick and Dom were probably the next best thing.
After my time but what I did see seemed puerile Shouting bogies ffs..
LOVE ONE AND ALL, SAID MISS DIANE FROM DUDLEY.
Absolutely excellent.
Loved it all especially compost corner did I hear you shout compost corner then you are as daft as me great times
I'd forgotten about Compost Corner....pardon? COMPOST CORNER!
I likes Miss Diane 💓
Plenty of in jokes here. For example the winner was a Mrs M.Mortimer ( Meg Mortimer was the owner of Crossroads Motel at the time).
Indeed ... "Of Kings O" ... Crossroads being set in the fictional Birmingham suburb of Kings Oak
Spit the dog and cough the cat..2 of my favourite bits also when everyone caught cooperitis 😂
BRING BACK TIZWAS😆😆🤣🤣
"Oh, for a muse of fire that would ascend
The brightest heaven of invention!
A kingdom for a stage, princes to act,
And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!"
Henry V Act 1 (prologue),
William Shakespeare
He was nearly pissing himself when he said that, it was a joy to see him struggling to keep it together 😂
Superb ! Also when Lenny Henry was funny !
Truth!
Gone from being funny with jokes to a snowflake and woke..
@@NOTODIVERSITY123 Absolutely !
Fabulous..
Paul Henry alias Benny Hawkins from Crossroads.
The real. Benny is still looking for that spanner in the garage
Ah, good ole Lenny Henry and a shadow of his former self nowadays.
4 years on and he's got worse!
My favourite Tiswas bit.
"Tain't no use in mopin'"
Great show.
Best version of the Crossroads theme - ever!
It's a classic!
🤣🤣🤣🤣Love it, .
So far ahead of its time.
I'd know my Benny ANYWHERE!!! Hi - Larious...
1980's I was in my 20's we watched it, mostly for Sally James, that and we did do lots of drugs lol
A young Lenny Henry
What a good laugh they had
So why has the real Benny not won an Oscar ?

LOVE LENNY THE BENNY FROM DUDLEY.
Get Off You Ham....!!! lol
he sort of played that character on the prison program bad girls
You wouldn’t believe Benny played a villain in the Sweeny.
What would Mrs Mortimer nee Richardson say about that? Frank Carson - News At Ten - TISWAS....
lol
Hello miss Diane,
Antony Westron Sandy Richardson..
Back when you could say Backward 😂
@@andymerrett You now have to say „ Mentally challenged“ no wait … it’s „ Other Learners“ now. As i live in Zurich I can still say Zurückgeblieben“ (Backward) and it’s still politically correct.
Those were the days when joey deacon and the chap who pretended he could understand him were king 😂
I know the guy on the right is a chinese martial artist, so it's a bit of a tap in.
Didn't seen too Bother Lenny Henry too much about BLM in those days
I used to love Mr Henry until he sold out.....
Umm I wonder what would happen now if a white guy portrayed a black guy.
Like when Jim Davidson did his Chalky?
@@fretboardmaster70 Yeah very funny 😁 I still listen to that stuff. Great!😁👍🍻
Chris Tarrant, what a fool, it the Benny on left not Lenny Henry, lol
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo YA DON'T SAY !!!!!!!!!
chris torrent the worst presenter in TV history.....truely horrific
The only period in Sir Lenny's career when he was funny
Chris Tarrant look like Boris Johnson at that time !

Little henry...desperate to get a laugh even then. No shame.
lol
