    For things like molasses where its hard to transfer I like to use lemon oil and take the sticker off and then just write on the glass with a white paint marker. I find that the visual clutter comes from labels and all the different colors, if you can remove the label the aesthetic is much better

    If you’re going to buy cute containers, make sure that they are large enough so that you can dispose of the original package. Otherwise, you end up with two containers which defeats the purpose of having less items in your cupboards 😁. Wishing you a happy, healthy and fulfilling new year!

    • @sherriew6
      @sherriew6 Před 3 lety +5

      Exactly! Which is why I don’t use cute containers, although I’d love to. It adds more stress to “ME”.

    • @denisesawyer6980
      @denisesawyer6980 Před 3 lety +3

      I agree. The time it takes to load and label the contents into a “cute” container and then having to remember to refill it seems a waste of time especially if the cute containers are hidden in a cabinet. I do however store bags of flour, sugar and corn meal in jars because they stack better.

    I think that "needing an extra set" is a perfect time to not HAVE more, but to share more- what about asking a friend, or family member. They get the pleasure of helping, and you don't have to store away stuff for incidental events. Sharing, not buying helps us build social bonds and friendship.

  • @byupunk01
    @byupunk01 Před 3 lety +10

    I totally felt the "oh I wish I had an extra" during the Christmas baking! Lots of washing bowls, cookie sheets, and measuring stuff! But I made it through, and looking back, I'm glad I made the decision to only keep the things I really use and love.

    Thanks for the video. I keep my vitamins in the hall linen closet in a bin and I write on the tops of them. Also, just a thought, but I have a very small kitchen and like to use a lot of spices. I have that same set of spice jars but I put the labels on the tops and I lay then on their sides in the narrow shelf. The square ones stack very well and if they are on their side you can see them all - and they will even stay alphabetical if you want them that way. I kept wanting to take your bottles and move them to the narrow/short shelf right above! It's just how I was able to take 48 spice bottles and make them all fit and look asthetically pleasing when you open the cupboard. Have an amazing year and stay safe!

    I personally only transfer something into a container if it is coming from a bag. If it comes in a bottle, I will keep it that way. I find throwing away the original bottle wasteful even if it is not aesthetically pleasing. Plus minimalism is not all about uniformity 😊 also, always choose practicality over aesthetics because if u can't be efficient, u would end up unhappy and tired in the kitchen ..

    • @simplelivingbulgaria3662
      @simplelivingbulgaria3662 Před 3 lety +3

      I also don't see the minimalism in buying a jar of something only to throw away the jar and transfer it to a new jar you bought. I save and wash all jars I get from whatever groceries I bought and reuse them. Are they all the same? No, but they work and also look nice!

    Instead of keeping extras to use once a year see if you can borrow them from a friend or family member. If you know people will be coming over to help in the kitchen ask them to bring a set of measuring cups and a mixing bowl. I'm really paring down on my once a year or once in a while clutter. It's just not worth it to have to manage it for an entire year just to use it once. If it's something I can make do without at that time of the year it goes.

  • @haveyougotyourtowel

    One option for more mixing bowls and measuring spoons, if you only use them once a year or less, is to just plan on a trip to Dollar Tree and maybe Walmart to spend just a few dollars each time. Unless you have the space to store the stuff.

    I will never keep my meds in the bathroom or the kitchen - both get far too humid for it to be safe for them to be stored there. Mine live in either my dresser, or in drawers in a room that never gets humid - I already don't have to worry much about humidity, but the bathroom and kitchen are still completely off limits to any medication storage at all because those two rooms do get it, and most of them would be ruined if stored there.
