    Paraiba, originally found in Brazil differs itself from other similar colored tourmalines by the fact that is has high coper contents. This is why other deposits recently found in Africa, may not come from the Paraiba mine but is still under the umbrella term Paraiba. This is why you always want to make sure you have an origin report for the stone because they will fetch a premium.

    so....even after all your discussion...is a genuine "paraiba" from paraiba only ? and all the others copper bearing tourmaline? or is this impossible to define"

    • @DominiqueFlux
      @DominiqueFlux  Před měsícem +1

      If it is copper bearing + stronger saturation it is considered a Paraiba. But if you find some from the Brazilian mine, then you will pay a premium (they are also often higher quality).

      @@DominiqueFlux Thanks for your timely reply....now makes better sense...you probably stated this in your video but not as clearly as you just replied....thanks again!

    Paraiba pricing is ridiculous, but apatite is a great recommendation for a replacement. Not only it can have the same colour, but it has very similar luster for less than 1% of the Paraiba price.
    The other thing is, that people tend to call every copper-bearing tourmaline a Paraiba. I've even seen yellowish green stones sold as Paraiba. They are much more affordable, and they have the same electric glow as blue ones, so it might be something to consider.

      I have such a "Paraiba wannabe" apatite on my shelf. Even though it's not a top tier stone (it's cut too flat and has some visible inclusions), it's very shiny and very pretty. But apatite is quite soft. If you wear it as jewellery it will lose some of its luster with time due to micro-scratches caused by dust particles.

    Are there any machines or qualities to look for that’ll determine the origin of each stone?

    • @DominiqueFlux
      @DominiqueFlux  Před 26 dny

      Yes labs will test the origin by using a sample from the specific mines and if it's the same as your stone. However if it's positive it is always positive but if it comes out negatives it's inconclusive and not a definite no. Does that make sense?
