    • Upgrading from Windows...
    Music:
    Fred V & Grafix - Major Happy
This is the upgrade History from Windows 1 to 8!
I installed MS-DOS 6.22 first and added Wolfenstein 3d as a test for the compatibility.
    Steps i did:
    1. Install MS-DOS 6.22
    2. Install Wolfenstein 3d as a test
    3. Install Windows 1.01
    3. Upgrade to Windows 2.03
    4. Upgrade to Windows 3.0
    5. Upgrade to Windows 3.11
    6. Upgrade to Windows 95 (Used Upgrade Version)
    7. Upgrade to Windows 98 (Used Upgrade Version)
    8. Converted file system to FAT32
    9. Upgrade to Windows ME (Used Upgrade Version)
(could have replace this with 2000, but choosed ME for faster install! ME and 2000 won't work!)
    10. Resized Partition with Linux Live System to 40GB
    11. Upgrade to Windows XP
    12. Converted the file system to NTFS
    13. Upgrade to Windows Vista
    14. Upgrade to Windows 7
    15. Upgrade to Windows 8
    Interesting things:
The Volume Label is still MS-DOS_6 as it was setted while installing DOS.
The color settings from Win 3 were saved until the XP Upgrade.
The keyboard code, which was set in windows 2 install remained all the time.
Wolf3d shortcut which was setted in windows 95 remaind all the time.
Windows 3.11 Username & Company stayed till XP Upgrade.
The MS-DOS Folder still exsist//Some DOS Programs do work.
The Programs from Windows 2 & 3 still work.
Windows 8 seems to be the first version which does not support Wolfenstein 3D
You are unable to update without having a Linux liveCD at hand for resizing the windows partition
The video at some point shows the most well-known feature of Windows, the blue screen of death, even if the only thing the user did was to start windows and start the upgrade.
If someone cares about the size after upgrading (goo.gl/jbNN8h)
Here the keys goo.gl/HnLux2 (Won't work online!)
    .iso's & .flp's till ME from goo.gl/reGfAw
Please give this video a little feedback!
VMware 8 was used as the Virtual Machine! (As it captures the screen)
Windows 1.01 UI wasn't recorded for some reason.

    I think my own upgrade path went: CP/M > MS-DOS 4 > MS-DOS 6 > Win95 > Win98se > Win2k > XP > Win7
2k is the best compromise between usefulness and stability, based as it is in NT. In fact, if it had better 64bit driver support, I might still be using it instead of win7. When win7 goes out of active support next year, it's the end of the line for me. I'll probably switch to Debian.

I don't think, that Vista is bad OS or it sucks. The way it works depends on what kind of computer you run it. For example few years ago i had PC, that was dedicated for Vista and worked pretty well with Vista, also as i was reinstalling it, Aero was on by default and it worked surprisingly good without driver installed.

I agree. Most people claimed performance was poor because OEMs shipped the more demanding versions of Vista (Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate instead of Starter and Home Basic) on PCs with frickin' _512 MB of RAM_ and because of the new memory management model.
