    My worst flight experience: I was flying from Denver to Atlanta and had the middle seat. The woman next to me in the window seat ordered a bloody-mary and ended up spilling it all over me and herself. The smell of tomato juice was infused into my clothes by the time we arrived.

    This is a story of one of the best flight experiences i ever had! So i was flying back home to Australia where i would get a connecting flight from Melbourne to Adelaide. So the flight I was on was from Hong Kong to Melbourne and this is before covid. I was a wide body plane so i was in the middle section of seats and people were supposed to come sit in the same row as me....they never made the flight so i had the entire row to myself and i could sleep. and i slept for so long I missed breakfast.

    EVERY worst flight I've ever had, ALWAYS involves children. I pay for the free wifi and always have my ear phones because no matter where I sit, if there is a child on the flight, they cry or scream so loud it feels closer than it actually is. and I need to drown out the noise.

    I remember going on one flight where this dude got on the plane and went straight into the toilet, he must have been really ill because he would NOT come out xD The flight attendants were desperately trying to get him to come out and sit in a seat so the plane could take off but eventually they just let him stay in there for take off
    He didn’t leave the toilet for the entire 2 hour flight, and worse still the smell began to fill the front of the cabin which made the already hot and cramped flight borderline unbearable
    I’ve never got off a plane so fast, that seatbelt sign went off and I was GONE I don’t know what that guy ate but holy fuck xD

    • @tobywolfie1936
      @tobywolfie1936 Před 2 lety +5

      Did the cabin crew manage to get him out of the toilets? Hope he hadn't decided to stay on the toilet while flushing it lol.
      Surprisingly if you do this in the air, it constitutes an emergency landing, because of how the toilets are vacuum pumped ones, if you do this, you are literally glued to the toilet seat until you land.
      But yeah, I hope he was okay and that whatever happened to him was sorted out, as gross as I can imagine it must have been.

    I think this couple tried the "you take aisle, you take window" trick so that there's a chance they can get all 3 seats to themselves. My friends often do this and are quite successful.
    My friends were a bit smarter because they'd check the seats online often so they can change once they see someone was assigned in the middle of them.
    This couple was just rude, they should've just switch with Majira since their plan didn't work. I mean, c'mon passing around your baby when someone is in the middle? Isn't it common sense?

I didn't realize that my cloths had absorbed the combined fragrances until I boarded the flight. I was stuck in the middle of the middle between two strangers. The lady next to me pulled her shirt up over her face while giving me the side eye. Omg, do I stink? I thought. This made me incredibly self conscious during the entire flight.

      Interestingly enough, the cabin air inside the aircraft is constantly recycled via the air conditioning, which is powered by the engines. So clean, filtered air is pumped into the cabin, while the dirty air is sucked out of the cabin.

    You were lucky that the flight wasn't full!
    One of my best/worst flight experiences was flying from New York to Paris to meet up with my dad (I was an unaccompanied minor at the time), and when we were about to land in Paris, there was a thunderstorm, so we had to stop in Brussels for an hour. I remember I was so terrified and I ended up trembling and crying. The flight attendant, however, was the SWEETEST one I've ever met. She let me sit in first class and gave me some amazing chocolate. We eventually arrived in Paris, and we had to wait two hours for my suitcase. I was just so sleepy at that point, that I ended up falling asleep on the waiting bench until my dad got my bag and woke me up later. It was one hell of an experience.

  • @emmetteclyde
    @emmetteclyde Před 2 lety +3

    So far my worst flight experience is actually my first ever flight back in February. So for context: I get motion sickness when I ride in vehicles suck as cars and stuff. I can usually prevent myself from getting sick by paying attention to the road (that's also how I don't get car sick while I'm driving), but when you're on a plane, that's not really an option. The first mistake I made was having a footlong chili dog meal from Sonic for breakfast a few hours prior to boarding. I took some Dramamine before boarding the plane and took my mom's advice of chewing gum during take-off, and once the plane lifted up into the air, I was hit with a huge wave of nausea. So I tried to relax in my seat as best I can and drank the water the flight attendants offered to try and ease my sickness. My second mistake was trying to play on my Switch while we were flying. Keeping my head upright and looking straight ahead helped me from feeling worse, so constantly looking down on my console and the flight itself not being the smoothest just made me feel worse. Eventually I felt I was going to vomit, so I got up from my seat and tried to make my way to the bathroom. To spare the details, I didn't make it and the flight attendants pulled me in to the back area for staff that was right behind the bathrooms. I was apologizing to the attendants while I got cleaned up, but they were nice about it and gave me a barf bag once I was ready to get back to my seat.
    So uh, yeah, lesson learned: don't eat a huge greasy meal before flying and don't move your head around so much during the flight.

    • @tobywolfie1936
      @tobywolfie1936 Před 2 lety +1

      Indeed a valuable lesson, also the Sonic and Chili-dog meal sounds like it would be a great marketing tie in with the character of the famous video games franchise.
      But yeah, that sounds like a pretty bad experience. It's good that you were apologetic, and that the cabin crew were understanding and went the extra mile to try and help ya get cleaned up and such. Sometimes cabin crew can be some of the most empathetic peeps.

Ryan Air and I had the necklace on they did not give too craps, but when on American from Puglia Italy to London Heathrow to connect to get back to USA they said please put in your under the plane bags, but warned me it still could be considered a threat so be ready for your name to be called if so and to come out onto the tarmac to open the bag yourself and take it out. However at one point the one at the middle seat needed to use the restroom and her AND her damn husband got up for some reason even though the restroom was right there he wanted her to be safe or something and they always kept getting up EVERY 30 MINUTES for god knows what…and the smell kept getting worse. Airplanes seriously should have designated tall people flights so we can lay down or have adequate leg room to be comfortable. I'm the same height as majira and flying sucks. Especially when having anxiety

    When I was in high school I was invited on a guided tour of Europe with some classmates. This was summer 2015. The flight there was fine, but on the 8 hour flight back, there was this lady behind me who was using in-flight entertainment to binge watch cheesy 1990s comedy, and despite wearing headphones, would loudly and obnoxiously laugh at every single punchline. For 8 hours. I could not sleep because of this woman.

    Don’t remember the type of plane, only it was huge and three long walkways to the vary back. My son in one arm and my baggage in the other. He was screaming and hitting me, throwing a tantrum. As we slowly walked to the back of the fully booked plane to our seats, being the last to board…I couldn’t help but notice the various looks of absolute horror. As each seat we passed I received that look of “oh yay, I’m going to be on That Flight. The one all the comedians talk about, so happy, thanks.” I honestly think a good amount of people broke-down and or cried “why me God what did I do wrong?!” All I could do is slowly continue to walk with my tail far in-between my legs…Keeping my head down on the walk of all walks of shame…As my son loudly cried and slapped me often. Finally we get to our seats, I never seen a stewardess ask me for help as fast as she got to us. The look on her face was of a distilled panic then asked if I needed anything, I replied yes, needing food and a drink. Like I made a wish it was instantly in my hands. I gave it to my son, he ended up passing out to sleep for the entire flight. There’s nothing like feeling like the worst parent ever invented, by over one hundred people I never met.

    This one time my mother and I were flying from California to Missouri and we got seated separately. After we landed I learned that my poor mother, whose 5 feet tall, had been sitting next to a guy who was like 7 feet and took up both seats and half the aisle, squishing her up against the window and the flight attendants had to ask him to move every time they wheeled a refreshment trolley by. Meanwhile I got two seats to myself.

    Worse flight experience...?
    Coming back from Anthrocon 2012 to Australia.
    Miscalculated my flight times... stuck at the Pittsburgh airport for around 24 hours (those airport seats don't provide much comfort if you're forced to sleep in the terminal). After that, departed and landed in Dallas... and I'm stuck there for 12 hours until I can depart for Australia. By this point, I was extremely severely sleep deprived with an ever growing headache.
    On the flight back to Australia, a teacher and their ~horde~ of children were packed in to the seats right behind me. Two of the ~brats~ however clearly didn't understand passenger etiquette because one of them kept "stabbing" the screen behind me, harder and harder and harder, not realizing it was causing the armrest to jolt my injured left arm (injury happened during FurDU 2012) and the headache to evolve in to migraine, to the point I had to actually turn around and tell them sternly to "please refrain from hitting the screen" because that screen is ~directly~ behind my head... and the other, for almost an hour straight, during the ~sleeping~ phase of the flight, kept turning the overhead light on-and-of-and-on-and-off (at least until either the teacher or flight attendant actually came and told them to stop).
    Honestly, parents/guardians should be held more accountable when their spawns of sat- ... err, I mean, their babies/toddlers/children are disrupting everyone around them.

      Indeed, Cabin crew are not there to JUST look after kids, they have other, much more vital roles, such as ensuring that safety equipment works, doors are closed properly, and that the flight crew are still conscious to name a few.
      These days people seem to be becoming less and less responsible for others, and more and more careless for others. Sucks loads that.

    I was about to ask when the smell of shit-filled diaper hit your nose. My worst flight experience (on an airline, not when flying myself) was little more than an inconvenience. Somebody took my seat, which I had specifically selected when booking, because they would have been sitting separate from their other family members. A bit presumptuous on their part, I know, but rather than dispute it and have the flight attendant make them move back to their own seat, I just decided to take their seat. It was only a short 45 minute connecting flight from ORD to GRR and not worth putting up much of a stink over. BTW, on those airline flights I was wearing my Anthrocon and “Proud to be a Furry” shirts.

    One time I was going to MFF and I had a flight with American Airlines that was supposed to board at 12:00 pm and so I was at the gate waiting and all of a sudden they delay it an hour,,, an hour later they delay it another two hours,, and it kept going. At 6pm we FINALLY boarded the plane,,, and then after waiting another hour on the plane they tell us to get off the plane because of something wrong with the cockpit ?? I don’t know. So I get off the plane and I’m crying cause I’m totally stressed out. Another hour and a half passes and they have us re-board the plane. It’s about 8:30 pm and we FINALLY take off. I didn’t get to MFF till about 3am.
    I’ll never fly American again.

      Tech issues suck, I'm surprised they didn't allocate you a replacement aircraft, as that may have meant you would have gotten a shorter delay potentially. But that would depend on if any were available that can also cater to the amount of passengers onboard the flight.

    I'm a frequent flyer for both cons and other trips, and I've used planes since I was little. I used to use Continental Airlines (prior to joining the fandom) until their merger with United, at which point I used United a lot and still do (including now that I reside in Ohio). I've also flown British Airways, Air Canada, Swiss Air, Lufthansa, Southwest, Delta, American, and JetBlue (ANE). 1stly, I"m going to adjust my channel to be an airline review channel for furries (when I learn how to edit lol cuz I got material with my ride to Boston to go to ANE 2022) with how much I fly. 2ndly, here's some advice. So, Southwest does use open seating and you can, as it sounds like you are using, use a higher class to better secure a seat. That said, airlines like United and American allow you to select a seat with no charge as long as you stay in basic economy. So, let's say you want to sit in a window such as 34A, you just select 34A, and boom. The seat is yours, and you can change seats as long as it's the basic economy seats. That's one reason I like using the likes of airlines like United and American. As to the checked bag, I possess a credit card with both United and American that allows me to get a credit card for no charge (but I pay about $90 for each card a year). Another bonus is that I get lounge passes a couple times a year (usually 2) that lasts about every 6 months. Lounges are super cool. I used one to go to Mff at the airport in CLE with United waiting to board a United plane. They had cheese-stuffed pretzels, fruit, and unlimited soda and I think some alcohol (though tipping the bartender is usually good). Otherwise, they usually charge about $50 each use without such a pass. Southwest does not provide a lounge. Should you use an airline that has a lounge, you usually will want to be through security at least an hour early (no less) to get the most with such a lounge. Just some tips with my many years of travel by plane. Oh, and sometimes, depending on how many miles you get with United, American, or Delta, you can get upgraded to 1st class. Now THAT is a great experience.

    those flight attendants who move the single flyers around are GODSENDS I fly alone a lot and I always appreciate them 😭💕 oh man I have lots of flight stories- I would fly back and forth from home and school every semester and there was one trip where I was coming back home for the holidays and it had been a STRESSFUL sprint to the airport, not knowing the station well, almost getting on the wrong train, etc- I get to the airport and find my flight delayed. Fine, I can cope, I just sit and play on my switch or whatever to pass the time. Mind you, I'm sick as a dog at this time (this is pre-covid, I just had a really bad cold). A half hour delay turns into one hour, one hour turns into five, and I'm just wandering around the airport at this point, grabbing food and sitting in random places to pass the time. I call my mom for the half hour of free wifi this goddamn airport gives me and she feels so bad, offering the idea that I go back and stay with my grandma who lives in that state for the night- but I've got sick brain and I've waited this long, I'm determined to wait it out and just get the hell home. When they finally get our plane, they switch terminals on me at the last second and I have to make a mad dash through the airport to find it. I finally did and I was so goddamn happy to get on that plane, everyone around me was staring at me sniffling and coughing like ohgod I don't wanna be on a flight with this person, I didn't give a shit I was going home. I waited 9 hours in that airport, so sick and brainfogged. I think that trip gave me travel anxiety.

    I’ve never been on a plane, but I have a train story. On my ride home from FE last month, I had it all set, single window seat, amazing leg room, if you’re gonna be on a train, go business class…. That is if you want a chance to be stuck next to some businessman who took up four seats to himself on the other side of the train car. He didn’t put his phone on vibrate or anything, so that was going off every minute as soon as the train left the station, followed by what seemed like an endless argument with one of his employees where he very loudly proclaimed he was gonna fire someone because he didn’t like who they were dating or whatever. That was the first two and a half hours of my five hour trip, the last half, this guy, this scumbag chatterbox, talked to a couple who were on vacation from Dubai, shared in some thinly veiled racism of previous partners and wouldn’t shut the fuck up about recommending place after place on what to do to this couple. They already made their own plans, they made that clear but every place they wanted to go, he would say “bah, overrated, overrated, tourist trap, terrible” and similar things. I had half a mind to ask an attendant over to shut him up, but the last thing I needed was the ire of some loud douche with no respect for public convention. See, business class on a train is the best, unless you’re stuck with one of his type.
    free drinks and food though.

    Having flown alone a few times they all went fairly well, meaning nothing happened. I got the window seat though, so that would be where I lucked out. You know, why do we even have the middle seat? Think about it. If we get rid of the middle seat, maybe widen the cabin just a little bit we can have 3 columns of 2 chairs with two aisles. No middle seats, only aisle seats and window seats. I have solved airline travel.

    • @tobywolfie1936
      @tobywolfie1936 Před 2 lety +1

      Some planes have two seats, some have more. Heck the DC-10's iirc had 2-5-2 at one point, which if you are in the middle of the centre row, can't imagine it's a great place to sit if you are claustrophobic.
      I believe the main reason for the 3-3 seating on some planes, is that these days airlines earn more revenue if they have more passengers on each flight, thus we have moved away from the wider, more comfortable seats, to narrower, and less comfortable ones. But I can't be sure on that.
