I do a lot of moto camping and use my normal Resmed Airsense 10 CPAP machine when I'm away (without the humidifier). My power source is a 307Wh LiFePo4 battery pack which gives me between 3 and 5 nights sleep between charges. The power pack cost about £170 and uses a simple DC power lead specifically for the Airsense 10 CPAP. The battery pack has a large selection of USB A, C and 2 x 12V cigarette lighter sockets and even a 10V Wireless phone charger. Most importantly of all, it has a built in DC - DC converter which allows me to select 24V as the voltage output for the lead that many CPAP's use. To charge whilst on the road I've wired a 60W 12V DC PD USB C laptop charger into the bike electrics which can fully charge the battery within about 6 hours of riding. This lives under the rear seat with the charge lead routed via a rubber grommet into a pannier where the battery sits during the day courtesy of some seriously heavy duty Velcro. Typically it gets a top up every day and I always have a few days charge in reserve. I also use the pack to charge my phone, my cameras and it also has an awesome built in torch/lantern. I also carry a (smaller than A4 size when folded) folding solar panel that can fully charge the pack in about 6 hours of sunshine. This is particularly useful if I decide to spend a few days in the one spot. The entire caboodle weighs about 7kg and takes up less than half a pannier but means I a can tour and camp completely off grid for as long as I wish. The only way i can see to improve my setup would be to buy an Airsense Mini which is at least half the size and weight of my Resmed 10 but it's a big cost just to save a little space and weight though.
You are a wealth of knowledge where I'm only scratching the surface. I'm glad you found a setup this is performing well for you. To get 3 to 5 nights solid rest out of one charge is incredible. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Eric
Happy to be of help, I've got some pics of the equipment if you want to add them. I'll try and message you some links.@@KrakensGarageandAdventures
@@iangoaty That would be great! Krakensgarage@gmail.com
TommyG has a portable one he takes on the Harley.... Bought it on FB marketplace brand new. It uses the same mask as his home unit. It is the ResMed model. On our Alaska trip, he took a 25 foot outdoor extension cord which we were able to plug in when camping in our tent at a campground. So, here is one more option that folks may consider.
I could have taken about this issue for another 10 minutes. Proprietary marks are a PITA. I'm glad Tommy found resolve while on your epic journey. Thanks for stopping by.
I’ve had a machine for ten years now and it goes with me on every trip. Having said that, we’re always in motels… much respect to those requiring one remotely.
It sounds like you have your setup sorted. I'm shackled how many of my friends need a CPAP that ride. I had no idea it was this widespread.
Super topic, Eric. I carry a CPAP if I overnight. It's a Portable unit I bought some 9 years ago. The model is a Transcend AUTO machine. It comes with power supply, 240V, 12 V and can connect a Transcend P8 Lithium Ion battery (good for 2 nights use). The total weight with bag, battery, cord, air line and nasal pillows is 1.4kg (3.1 pounds). Can't get these anymore, they've been replaced with the ResMed which is about 1/3 the size. I won't travel without it. All great points you made. Ride well. Cheers
9 years old! It sure sounds like you got a good one. You should shoot a video about your experience being a motorcyclist with CPAP. I'm shocked how many of my friends that ride use a CPAP.
Thanks Eric for doing the research. Bob uses a CPAP. It takes up 1/2 his saddlebag. When we camp he sometimes does not use it. It depends on if we have an electric site. He has considered getting a portable unit. We appreciate all your hard work getting information to us. 😊
I can only hope this video gets him to thinking. I'm very sorry to hear Bob wrestles with this issue.
I use a Z2 travel one, with a battery power bank and also carry a solar panel. Best thing I have done, use it at hotels, camping or wherever instead of carrying the large one I have at home. Good vid Eric.
I'm glad you hear you have it sorted. I'm shocked how many riders use a CPAP.
Great topic! Good advice. I’m hoping Santa will bring me a ResMed portable for Christmas. Similar to another commenter, fully half my luggage space is taken up by my regular machine. Thanks for doing the research so thoroughly.
I hope Sandy Claws 🎅 hooks you up this holiday season. It's shocking how many of my riding friends deal with this issue.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures You get busy for a few months and suddenly all your friends are old people.
Sleep Apnea definitely isn’t something that only affects people older folk. I was diagnosed with severe level sleep apnea at 25 yrs old so have been on a CPAP for 25 years. Have had many machines over the years, mostly ResMed. Actually currently away at the moment in Victoria reviewing the new Interceptor, so of course the CPAP has come with me, if small enough to travel with. This is for the info on batteries, something I’m looking at currently as hoping so done more Moto camping in the next few years. Nice one, great video Eric
Ross, it sure sounds like you have a great setup sorted after using one for 25 years. I was only scratching the surface on this video to get a few riders to improve their quality of life. I hope my thoughts get them pointed in the right direction.
6:19 there is a new device on the market now. It’s similar to a pacemaker, inserts under the skin, has a remote, and you turn it on when you go to bed. I’ve not looked into it in depth, but it’s something I hope to be able to use, mainly because I’m still wanting to do as much tent camping as I possibly can!!
I'm not sure how I feel about having a device installed on my body? I guess it would depend on bad I had the issue.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures so far, not sleeping well on a trip like the recent MABDR trip hasn’t affected me. I believe I can handle a week with not sleeping well if I have to. Heck, I did it for years before realizing I had sleep apnea!!
I have three CPAP machines. All of which are not battery operated. My newest one I got at the end of August, and I specifically asked for a portable battery-operated one. To my surprise, once again they gave me a plug in one. 😢
I wear a CPAP as well. One major problem I had when I went to VAMM23 , my travel CPAP (small older CPAP) was missing the gasket and connector for the breathing hose. Needless to say, I had major sleep deprivation on that trip.
When I got back home, I made SURE that it was functioning properly now.
Oh wow! I'm sorry to hear that. There's so much gear to keep track of doing YT, let alone other items for daily use while on travel.
Capt Dave has the ResMed model he takes but he doesn’t camp. Kathy is picking hers up tomorrow. They have really came down in size. Very good info Eric!
It's good to hear that Capt Dave is having good results from his. It's shocking how many of my friends use a CPAP that ride.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures He’s been on it for years. Kathy had one before and never used it. I’m excited she’s getting a new one as I sleep beside her and she snores like a grizzly bear 🐻 😂
I don't do the motorcycle camping but i do travel with a CPAP, and like Motoramblings said it does nearly take up a whole saddle bag, I may check on one of the smaller portable ones, good information Eric, thanks for sharing.
Very good topic, Eric. Sleep apnea signicantly reduces life expectancy, and CPAP machines prevent, and can reverse the damage done by sleep apnea. I think the cost is worth the "life" benefit it provides. Excellent advice in this video 👏🤝👍
You're not alone. So many of my riding friends wrestle with this issue. I can only hope this video gets a person thinking of other solutions.
@@SpyderWayneThank you, Wayne. Another off the beaten path topic brought to you by 🏍💨🦑 I'm shocked at how many of my riding friends use a CPAP. I hope this video sheds a little light on the topic.
It's amazing how many people use a CPAP machine today. I have a couple of friends that carry them when they ride.
I'm happy to hear you don't need one. It's incredible how many do use one in these comments on this very video.
1:15 my CPAP takes up a whole saddle bag!!
That is the exact reason why I made this video. Maybe it will help a person out.
If I’m going to one place like Mom’s, on the GW, I take my machine. Any other time, I’ve left it home, and dealt with sleeping poorly. I just haven’t been able to force myself to buy the portable one, just too much money….
They are quite expensive. To me, it all.cpmes down to quality of life vs. the money spent. Everyone has a different threshold of pain here.
Thats some good info. As I get older I have more and more friends using these. Glad there are options for people that like to travel.
I'm shocked at how many folks replied to this video that used CPAP. Thanks for stopping by, Jerry.
I know so many people that use these machines. Thanks for sharing this info.
I hope it helps someone to think outside the box.
Good topic and very important for those that use them to know - that they have options.
I'm was shocked how many of my friends that ride use a CPAP. Another off the beaten path topic, but I thought it might be helpful to someone.
Great info Eric! As a CPAP user it can be very frustrating. Great point about each individuals machine will differ. I have severe apnea. Mine is set pretty high. I am able to travel with my home machine because I can remove the humidifier (that is the main power draw) and it is 12v and the 110 cord it came with has a converter. If I purchased a 12v cigarette lighter plug off Amazon and if I’m somewhere I don’t have access to 110 I have a female cigarette lighter plug on my portable jump pack I carry. I can run my machine for 8 hours on that jump pack without the humidifier. If I plug my jump pack in charge during each meal of the day and trickle charge it from the bike as I ride I can almost get it back to 100%. I’ve even taken it to the ranger station at a campground and asked if I could charge it there while I’m out riding if staying multiple days in one spot.
You should shoot a video on this topic. You would be a weather of information on the topic. Thanks for stopping by, brother.
Sounds like a great idea. I bet a lot of people would love to hear that. I agree with Eric's reply to you.
I travel with a CPAP. I put it in my luggage and it sits on my passenger seat. I don't do camping, so I have a full size unit that gets plugged into a wall outlet in my hotel!
It sounds like you've got your set uo working well for you. This is kind of an odd topic, and it's shocking how many of my friends deal with this issue.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures long distance travel would not be possible for me without a CPAP.
I don't motocamp but with all of our travels (motorcycle, vacation, etc.) I use a CPAP too. The VA provided mine. I've been using one for six years. Great video Eric! This is a topic of motorcycling I've overlooked.
Thanks for stopping by, Toby. You should shoot a video on the topic with your experience. Knowledge is key when a person has issues.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures Thanks for the suggestion! I may just do that. Ride safe!
I don't use, or need, a CPAP machine, but if I ever do, I will have to remember to come back to this to get the best one for traveling on my bike. Great topic and great advice, Sir.
I'm happy to hear you don't need one. It's incredible how many do use one in these comments on this very video.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures Yeah, I notice that, too. I was reading several of them. I think you did a great job and no doubt helped many folks. Well done, Eric.
Great advice. Recently set up battery source on my moto camper. Tested 400 amp hours and was able to run everything 8 hours without recharging. So I purchased an 800 amp hr battery and a solar charger
I'm glad you got it sorted and it's not holding you back on your adventures. Thanks for stopping by, brother.
This is actually very good info Eric, lots of useful stuff I had no idea about. Well done my friend 👏
Thank you, Bull. It's shocking how many of my friends that ride use a CPAP. I hope this video gets a few thinking.
Your a great man thinking of & helping other people.
I'm just trying to share a few random thoughts that might help a fellow rider. Thank you for the very kind reply, sir.
This is something I never would’ve thought about cause it doesn’t apply to me…I sure hopes this helps some people out though!! Good video Eric

Thanks for the great advice.
I'm blown away by all the replies of my friends here who struggle to get rest. I hope this small video helps a few on the road.
I would think the smaller the better. I couldn't imagine trying to sleep with a vacuum cleaner hose attached to my face. Hopefully tech makes these more user friendly in the near future.
I'm right there with you Randy. I would get sleep apnea just wearing the damn thing. Thanks for stopping by.
Interesting topic Eric!
So far, I'm not needing a CPAP device, but I'm sure it's right around the corner, since the wife seems a bit more irritated by my snoring, but the poor breathing isn't affecting my sleep as of yet 😉
But when that time comes, i know where to go to review the tips 👍
I sure hope you don't need one. It's shocking how many of my riding friends use a CPAP. If you think you're a candidate for one, please go have the test done. Sleep apnea will take years off your life.
Hello Eric, this is an important topic, one that I have never thought about. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓

great information for those that need to use these. Thankfully I'm not one of them right now but know if the times comes i have options.

Wow, I never thought about this and didn't know the little one existed. Thanks' Mate
I'm happy to hear you don't need one. It's incredible how many do use one in these comments on this very video.
Yeah, my CPAP takes up a good amount of my tour pack. I would like to get a travel size one. But yeah, insurance won't cover a 2nd one. Cost outa pocket, a little expensive. I lug my big one around with me on motorcycle trips. I stay at hotels, don't moto camp. Good video Eric 👍
It sounds like you have your setup sorted for traveling. It must be annoying to haul it around on trips. Thanks for watching, Roy.
@KrakensGarageandAdventures It is a pain to take though. A smaller portable one would be great.
Great information Eric. My wife uses a cpap.
I'm happy to hear you don't need one. It's incredible how many do use one in these comments on this very video.
Medical Devices have a huge markup .. I would bet they could be bought a lot cheaper through various channels .
I didn't dig too deep, but I would have to assume so. So many riders struggle with this.
Great video Eric, add me to the list too. I got one a few years ago (AirSense 10) and have to deal with transporting it during my travels. After reading some comments and recommendations I may check some of those options out. Staying in a hotel taking it isn’t that bad, but camping and power sources in limited.
I'm sorry to hear that you have to deal with it too. It is my hope that this small video gets a person thinking outside the box.
Thank god I’m like you and don’t have to deal with this. I also hope those that do aren’t trying to skimp with the Amazon knock off parts.
I'm shocked at how many good folks replied to this video that ride and use a CPAP. I believe you and I have hit the lottery on this front.
Good info! My wife keeps telling me I need one, but I tell her to wear ear plugs to drown out my snoring :D
You better look into one before you take a perma dirt nap because of your snoring!
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures Yeah... I did a sleep study a few years ago, and I was in the "marginal" category, IIRC. May have to do another one. OR, you know, go to bed at a decent hour, LOL.
always take my CPAP. I don't use a battery (don't camp). Need it less and less these days but I have also always had 2 units. The older one gets put in luggage and abused by travel, the new one never leaves my night stand at home.
That's a great plan for using the old one. My takeaway from posting this video is, look how many folks replied that use a CPAP! I hope this video helps a few.
I was hoping to see footage of you riding with it on your face! 😂
I’ll bring mine in a few weeks when we see you so you can take a ride with one on! 😂
Bring the cameras! It will be interesting! 😂
all I heard here is hope I never need a Cpap. Got it!
Exatamundo!
Thx for sharing
Kind of an odd topic that affects many riders. I hope video sheds some light on it.
I use a cpap a Phillips dream station take it everywhere I sleep. Goes in the bottom of my bike bag nicely. I camp all the time in minimum 3 star😅
That's awesome! This brings a huge smile to my face to see a rider not be held back by life. Thanks for sharing. Eric
I have to use my CPAP to fulfill the requirement on the DOT doctor every year to get them to sign off on my health cert.
I'm told that my CPAP report needs to be above 75% usage in order to stay compliant.
So if I use it everyday for 50 weeks out of the year and take 2 weeks off for a vacation weather its a motorcycle vacation or whatever, I'd still be in compliance and above 75% usage.
So yeah, I'm actually forced to wear a CPAP if I want to keep my CDL even though if feel absolutely no difference between using it and not.
This, I have never heard before. But it makes sense. In the near future, I'll be going away CPAP battery packs. I hope you throw your hat in the ring for a chance to win one. All the best, Eric.
I have to say that I’m not happy about being on a CPAP machine. My self esteem has dwindled. I really don’t like myself much. Thank you for this video. I’m travelling to Tasmania two up. Will be a 10 day round trip minimum. I’m looking to hire a portable machine for the trip.
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Chewie. We all get older mate and change. You have to learn to love what you have in life.
I’m thankful I’m above the dirt every morning as many I know haven’t had that privilege.
You shouldn't feel that way Chewie. Wait till you get to my age and you're literally watching your body degrade. I can't do half the things I used to do. Try to look at it another way. Wear your body the F out before you leave this world. We are all paddling upstream on this issue. You're not alone.
0:22 I always thought CPAP machines were for heavy, older people….
Watch it!😂😂😂
I really did think the same way. It's not an old person's issue. It affects many folks of all ages.
@@MRGS48 😂😂Read on… I’ve been using one for quite awhile now!😂😂
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures and, it’s often mis diagnosed!!
If I were to own a pop up camper for the GW, I could take it on any trip I’m using that bike, but the off pavement rides on the Strom would require a different plan….
Hmmm, a pretty good reason for a popup camper, Patrick... a transport carrier for a CPAP machine... and all kinds of other luxury camping gear 🤔😁
A portable CPAP tucked away in one of your panniers, I would think you'd be good to go. 🤔
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures if I’m willing to spend the money, and deal with the issues you mentioned…. I’m a cheapskate 😂😂😂
