  • You can install a third-function valve on almost any modern tractor. We did a DIY third function valve on our TYM Tractors T264 using the universal third function kit from Summit Hydraulics. Watch me as I figure out how to install this 3rd function valve kit in part 1.
Our end game is to use the Sub-Compact Tractor Mini Tine Grapple from Worksaver, and it is a perfect match for the TYM Tractors T264.

Nice job Tony. I worked as a mechanic for a local John Deere dealer and installed many 3rd function values. The nice thing about the kits from John Deere is everything is included for the model tractor you are working on and it mounts right up.

      @@TonysTractorAdventure
      Tony,
When I bought my T264 last fall, the only thing I could find on the net was a sales pitch for T264. But I did my homework before I bought TYM and I knew I made the right choice over competition. But I did have second thoughts for a while, not because of the tractor, but because of support and 3rd party attachments or parts that don’t mention the T-264; actually most don't even mention TYM.
Here are some of my complaints (scratch that! Opportunities for improvement at TYM)
      - My BY200 isn’t prepped for a mechanical thumb; and there is no mechanical thumb for the “BY200”. After much research, I finally got a response from tractorbynet.com that there is a part number for a new mechanical thumb but calling TYM with that part number and my dealer drew DIH “Deer in Headlights”.
      - I went through real pain getting confidence in ensuring I had the correct 50 hour maintenance parts (filters, oils, etc). I have that list of parts now if you want it.; 100 hour maintenance is a new, separate issue.
      - I’m a newbie to tractors, but I have rebuilt an engine or two; so I’m a tiny bit mechanical if you will; so when I replace a filter I want to make sure I replace it with the correct filter. Putting on a NAPA filter that isn’t referenced to my tractor or my engine is nerve racking!
      - I almost gave up on a grapple and a 3rd party valve until your videos. I’ve broken my hood grill in multiple places lifting stumps and tree limbs with my bucket. Didn’t know where to turn for a reliable grapple? Called TYM they say call dealer… dealer is DIH. TYM needs to do better! TYM, what can we learn from JD here? Note, YOU have a BETTER tractor in the T-264 but JD will win every time until you understand who your customer looks like!
To say the least, I’m disappointed in TYM’s support of newbie owners. Yes, many things should be worked through a dealer, but others should not. Fact is - the tractor world is a great deal “Do it Yourself” as proof in your grapple videos; but more and more owners are newbies like myself. I translate this into lost opportunity for TYM since they think everyone is a life long farmer with a welding torch in his pocket.
To answer your question Tony. I’ve got a long list of what I'm looking for but I'll cut it short:
      - I want a root ripper, it’s an corrugated blade that replaces the bucket so you can tear up roots and such.
      - I want a mechanical thumb for my BY200
      - I want to buy my 100 hour parts with confidence
      - I want to buy a grapple and install it myself like you did (well done! - at least that is done but it would be nice if TYM said... You should use parts....)
      - I need a replacement grill guard because the TYM grill guard is poorly designed - it does not protect the grill and the radiator in any real way).
      - I want a replacement grill because I busted mine up to holy heck.
      - I want a better dealer (that's my problem).
      - But, oh don't get me started ;)
Actually Tony, I really do have a long list of wants for this awesome little beast … and I do love this tractor!
For the price, It's really a beast and has surprised me already in so many ways in just that first 62 hours of operations.
So Thanks Tony - keep up the great work - I found your channel the other day and I'm hooked!
      Cheers!
      Ben

Most tractor dealerships will just give you their price. Sometimes the manufacturer will offer rebates at different times on different things. There may be a couple hundred dollars either way, but tractors don't have the markup like cars. Cars are sold by the millions. Tractor companies may sell 100,000 for all brands in a year. Tractors last a lifetime if they are taken care of.

I have heard some people have used the rear hydraulic for the backhoe to run the 3rd function (on/off switch between legs controls flow to what would normally be to the backhoe can be repurposed to open and shut the pincer on the grapple). What do you think of that vs installing the aftermarket 3rd function? Thanks!

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  Před 4 lety +1

It can be done, but it is not practical. You will have to move your hand away from the steering wheel or the loader control. The rear remotes would really reduce the effectiveness of the grapple by having to stop driving or stop moving the loader arm to close the grapple. I would say, if you are going to go to the trouble of buying a grapple, plan on installing it with a true third function valve. I understand the cost associated with third function, but you will be happy with the results. Hydraulic lines are a big cost, and I promise, you will go to a third function valve at some point. Save the money for those long hoses and install the third function up front. I was surprised at the cost of the hoses from the grapple to the quick connect. Ouch! Tony

The LS MT125 does not have a greasable front axle trunnion. It is just metal on metal and will get loose fast with heavy loader use. There is no way to fix this. Other than the front axle becoming loose, it is a great Tractor. TYM puts grease points on their smallest tractor everywhere. I am not sure why LS cut that corner. This is a true third function kit. Third function or diverter valves are dependent only on how the are plumbed. Some of the updated tractors like the T25, T474, T494, T574, are prewired and have OEM kits that are true third function kits. Any tractor can have true third function.
