I love how nemesis is supposed to be this evil Eldritch monster, but in the advertisement it helped guests put on their restraints and blasted some rock away so the guests wouldn’t crash into it.
I said to my dad once, if I’m nemesis’ advert why is the nemesis monster meant to be so bad, it gave them a epic ride to go on
Fake News, clearly
He’s trying to help
I think the nemesis would rather keep its visitors alive just to torment them more than they already have been by the coaster itself.
I think the nemesis would rather keep its visitors alive just to torment them more than they already have been by the coaster itself.
I became intimately familiar with Alton Towers as a teenager, despite having never been to the UK, because of an insanely detailed recreation of it in Roller Coaster Tycoon that someone had uploaded to a fan site in the early 2000's. I loved managing the park as it was a challenge to manage such a big park in RCT. Despite never being there myself, I have some weird nostalgia for the virtual Alton Towers thanks to RCT
SAMMEEE
I really hope you get to go, you should come with me!
Yeah me too. I like the background history of RCT that John Wardley helped Chris Sawyer to develop the game.
If you get the chance to visit the park, I would 100% recommend, one of the worlds best and most unique park
I still dont know how im french and still know about the smiler and others rides promotions 😂
Nemesis is my favourite ride not only because of how good it is, but because after 25 years it’s still really smooth
Yeah, that is really testament to B&M quality when newer rides are rougher in comparison.
James Curzon Th13teen is smooth as well.
It's a little rough but nothing like Infusion at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
@@matty8505 It's not bad for a 25 year old coaster.
mines air/ galactica wagtever you wanna call it but air is the best there in my opinion just something about it that gives me loads of thrill and the feeling that you are flying in the air fascinates me
Is that a miniature model of the entire coaster I see in that video? Towers should sell replicas of that. I would buy one at a high price. It's a travesty that there's no real Nemesis store at Towers anymore. Whatever merchandise they do sell is always themed towards the loop part of the ride rather than the actual alien. It's so weird that the most iconic character in the park isn't really represented these days. Hoping that 2019 brings some special celebrations for Nemesis' 25th anniversary.
I need to get to the park to grab a 25th anniversary shirt. There is almost NO Nemesis clothing available anywhere :-(
John wardly in the Park is good I think...
Well there seems to be a considerable amount of merch in the Galactica store. But not models. Sad times.
I went on October 12 this year and found only two Nemesis monster plushies. One is a Nemesis themed bear and one is a small monster plush with a keychain clip thing. I went with my college and one girl got the bear while I got the monster. The monster plushie has a light red body with dark red spots like a giraffe pattern, three green eyes (one on a stalk on its head like the ride, a green star eye and a green round eye) and has a humanoid shape and he’s wearing a black onesie for reasons unknown. No idea which shop the girl got her bear from (she wasn’t walking around with my group) but I got mine from the Galactica shop as well as I saw the bear there
Try Splash Landings or the Galactia shop, plenty of nemesis 25 stuff in both shops
alton towers sure loves using hall of the mountain king in their commercials lol
It's funny you say that, when I was a kid and didn't know the name of the song I would always just call it the 'Alton Towers Theme Song' 😂
They've always used this song ever since I was a young lad and they always will .
@@johnnyrotten8801 They actually stopped using it for a while, but then Tussauds was bought by Merlin and they brought it back. Thank goodness they did
The Smiler's rarely heard rendition of the theme is my ringtone
@@whityouyahbam Everyone I know would still call it that, they still play it through the park till this day lmao
In my opinion Nemesis is the best coaster in the UK. A legend over 20 years old. Newer rides have came but will they have the longevity this has and impact on the park as much. Rather than complain that it is not the best in the UK. Tell me why and what your fav is?
I have never been to the UK, but I have traveled along mainland europe
And Kärnan in Hansa Park is without a doubt the best coaster I ever did, great theming, story, music and, of course, a fantastic ride
i agree but smiler is a close second
Expedition Theme Park agree nemesis is insanely good I can’t pick a favourite but nemesis is up there. Something about it just takes your breath away no matter how many times you ride it
Favourite for me in the uk at the min is probably either saw (just cos I love the eurofighter layout) or stealth (cos i just love LSM launches)
Nemesis is without a doubt the best in the UK except when Olympia Looping is here that is.
Bring back the Ribena coloured water!!!!
UroTrigger It's Not Very Well Known That The 'Ribena Coloured Water' Was Bad For The Environment
i convinced myself that the purple water was made from the short-lived nemesis drink (if anyone remembers that)
They got to many complaints from the residents as per usual saying it was killing wildlife around the area 😵😂🤦🏼♀️
Okimi Nemesis Drink? Huh.
I was at Alton towers today and said to the employee before the ride set off BRING BACK THE RIBENA WATER... I ain’t even embarrassed think my friend was tho
It's crazy to think that the second inverted coaster built is still the best one, 25 or so years later.
It was like the 4th or something, not the 2nd
@@DomDoesCoasters it was the second inverted coaster
It's not the best. Raptor, Afterburn, Banshee, and Montu are all extremely good.
@@alaeriia01 havent ridden the other two but have ridden Nem and Mont........Nemesis is far ahead of Mont in my opinion.
Montu is pretty good too
When I was a kid, just before the park closed the ride was completely empty so I kept running round after riding it and rode it 13 times in a row. I remember feeling only slightly perturbed by this, and very proud. I rode it as an adult (read weakling) once a few years ago and felt like I'd just been beaten up! Great but brutal roller coaster.
Tbh even though nemesis is a villain I find it cute how nemesis politely lowers the restraints to protect the guests riding it so they don’t go flying off and crash into the landscape
Nemesis is a truly terrifying and intense ride, only rode it once when I was about 14 and screamed the whole time! Fave rollercoaster ever is probably Air at Alton Towers, really feels like you are flying. I was sad to learn that my childhood coaster the rattlesnake located at pleasurewood hills has been gone for some time, rode that so many times growing up.
Shame that air has been rethemed to a vr roller-coaster. Although you can take the headset off and still enjoy it as air
mrdinger although it was made a lot slower and air was my first ever roller coaster so I was pretty upset
@@sparkey3800 theyve made it slower?! oh ffs. It wasn't that fast to begin with
I wish that Expedition would cover Air, I’m from Canada and have never been to Alton Towers, but people keep talking about how great it is!
Rattlesnake returned in 2019 as the Egg Express.
7:55 It's actually both. The unusual track layout is supposed to represent Nemesis' long, winding tentacles and the track supports are the metal bolts pinning it down, which is why they are a dull, grey colour and the track is a strange, rusty white.
I first rode Nemesis when I went to Alton Towers with my parents then years later with my husband and our friends and then again with our two boys. Can't wait to take my grandson.
Nemesis and Alton Towers have always had a special place in our family.
So, Nemesis was my first RC experience, and kinda got me hooked.
One year (when air opened) we got in to the park early to ride air, once done we went to Nemesis, rode it once, got off, ran the empty queue, then when we came back in to the station from the second run, the guy said "no need to get off". The floor came up, went down and we went straight away! After the third time in a row... We needed a seat. Lol
As for Inferno, sure that does have a story, which was the beast tried to escape by digging down, and it caused a fissure and volcano in Thorpe Park.
I’ve never been to Alton Towers but I have always wanted to ride this. From the pov’s I’ve seen the extremely unique layout really allows for a sense of speed considering the relatively low height of the lift hill. And the theming really looks fantastic.
K it’s absolutely amazing. The sheer force that kicks in after the first decent is something else. I’ve been visiting Alton Towers since being a toddler and nemesis is still my favourite in the U.K. it’ll never be beaten for me.
it's the closest feeling to flying in a stunt plane you could get and a very smooth ride
@@JohnDRobinsonelectronicdrums in no way is nemesis a smooth ride lol, I might be a bit biased here because I have connective tissue problems but any rollercoaster that can dislocate my hip from rattling ain't a smooth ride 😂 legit feels like you've had your brain shaken, never had that problem with oblivion or air lol
well it used to be when I rode it but that was a few years ago :)
It is without a doubt the best ride I've been on and I had no clue what was really happening the entire time, would highly recommend if you ever come to England!
Thank you for actually covering uk/European theme park rides in decent detail. All the us/Canada based channels I follow never do
7:38 Oh my god it’s Mr Morris from Friday Night Dinner! XD
Alex Taylor omg I see it now! 😂😂
Ah Nemesis, the best roller coaster I've ever experenced, loved it as a kid, love it as an adult. Though I admit the ride experence has gotten a bit rougher over the years with the Beast showing it's age, last time I rode it the twist just as we re-entered the station jarred my hips pretty badly, no enough to put me off the ride but enough that I still felt it the next day.
I love the backstory of Nemesis, though the version I remember as being a little different. That while the Beast is pinned by the coaster it would eventually get it's self free, but it can't as the sound of people screaming in fear and joy as they ride Nemesis keeps it frozen in place so that it can't get lose.
spot on, nemesis is the top coaster in this country FULL STOP.....
The coaster has strange features where you sit. Toward the back its soft and tame, but front (left) is intense and feels a lot more than the 4.5g is advertised.
Im really looking forward to taking my 10 year old twins on the old gal next year as they have not ridden her yet, the first ride on the front should be something they will remember.
This for me is the perfect coaster, it is constant as you stated on the video, no lulls just unadulterated terror and thrills. Those near misses make the coaster.
The very back row is the most intense though. I was obsessed with it at Scarefest I rode four times in a row and had to keep running around again in the dark
@@visionist7 hell yeah the back row was always the best for doing the zero g over the station as you got throw about a lot more, but that's always the way......BACK ROW FOR LIFE!!!
Good for you! I was about 12 when it first came out and I remember my dad taking me on it. Corkscrew was my first upside down coaster and I loved it.
I remember the thrill of queuing with dad for Nemesis! Sadly I’m now at an age where rollercoasters, especially upside down ones make me super sick 😢
Hope your girls loved it!
That one song that they always use
That one song they use in the smiler
Always a remix of In The Hall Of The Mountain King. *Always.*
Except that one time it wasn’t.
Canada, Canada, ha ha ha ha Canada!
@@yoursleepparalysisdemon8171 No, I think they mean that there was a small time in the nineties that the park didn't use ITHOTMK as its theme song
I think Nemesis is so cool. It is so unique how it was built and the fact that it still comes highly regarded even now is a testament to the attraction.
Nemesis Inferno did have a backstory-just watch the Inbetweeners!
Lol
Andrew Draper most naked people is normal nemesis
*inconsiderate arseholes*
Damn right, still the best ride in the UK. It remains to this day an absolute masterpiece in every single way. Ride experience, theming, story, mystique, marketing. It’s got the lot. A fine addition to the British Engineering hall of fame.
It's technically Swiss/german engineering 😉
AmuroWhiteDemon haha your right! I can’t take credit away from B&M. I should have said imagineering. 😁
Cannot agree more, and it always amazes me how smooth it is compared to how jerky some newer rides by other manufacturers have become.
My favourite ride of all time, there's just something about it that's perfect... the location, the close walls, something about the sound the track makes. It just keys the whole experience together. I've never found anything that matched it, even stuff higher and faster... Amazing on a chilly dark winter night on the front row! This got me over my fear of rides when I was a young kid because it was FUN and an EXPERIENCE. And I still go back to it and get that same high after all these years! Simply... A masterpiece.
Fantastic video brother thinking I’m definitely gonna have to go across the pond to see this Alton towers
You should, it’s fantastic. I have a season pass so I go all the time as I only live half an hour away. It never gets old. The best time to go in my opinion is Halloween for scarefest as there is horror theming all around the park and a lot more to do.😊
If you love coasters, Alton towers is a MUST in my opinion, Oblivion and Nemesis are sooo good and unbelievably comfortable for their age however I cannot comment on the Smiler yet
It's a fabulous park. One of the best in the UK
So on the nemesis ride at Alton towers on the seat in front of you it says “keep your head back against your seat” or something along those lines. Anyway, so me being an absolute genius put my head forward to talk to my friend in the seat beside me (during the ride may I add)and my head bounced from side to side like 3 times. It was still really fun and I had a great time :)
Conclusion: I’m an idiot.
i kept my head forward and looked like the hunchback as i couldnt sit back up again ( we were on the back so it was already shakey ), my back hurt so bad the rest of the day and i couldnt sleep at all but i dont mind nemesis is just too good
Fun fact: the Clip of King Cobra was narrated by Horror Movie Legend Vincent Price.
I'd recognize that voice anywhere.
That's what I thought. I adore that man and wish I could have gotten to meet him.
I love Nemesis, it’s scary to think how old it is already and that there will probably come a day in my lifetime where I’ll no longer be able to ride it for whatever reason. So for now I’m going to keep going to the park on slow days on riding Nemmy multiple times in a row.
Jesus the backstory is SO detailed lol..like you would never expect an original awesome backstory to a RIDE here in United States. You brits are the best when it comes to cool stuff like that haha, I love it. I want to go to Alton Towers so badly, it seems like the best amusement park ever! I was born and raised in Southern California down the ways from knotts and Disneyland so I have been to both countless times, however six flags magic mountain is 2 hours (of misery) and so haven’t been there as much as I’d have liked to. But ya you guys are so lucky to have such a bad ass amusement park in England!
“The ride gathered constant complaints from locals to the park for the noise it made...”
*INTENSE IN THE HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING*
I remember when I stayed at splash landings a couple years ago, l got early entry both days. I made a beeline straight for this and must of ride 5/6 times within the first hour of the park being open just get queueing until it got busy.
5:00 My husband is a design engineer and when the kids were younger and first rode Nemesis, he gave them a full lesson in physics and literally talked them through the entire ride at the top of his voice.
“Then Zero G which means??”
Kids - “Weightle -WWWWWARRRGGH!!”
“Weightlessness excellent!!!”
😂
By far the best ride in the UK, I remember being so scared as a kid waiting in line where the wind off the loop hits u and think hell no but I couldn't get bk over the fence lol. Plus can eny1 remember the nemesis drink that tasted like blackcurrant liquorices
I do. Got it every chance I did. Pity it was limited edition.
Nemesis is iconic due to its surroundings. Any B&M inverted will always be a good coaster to ride but the pit that Nemesis is built into takes it to another level. The layout of the ride is perfect. Its non stop intense action right until the section after the vertical loop where you get a few seconds to catch your breath before being thrown into the surprise last inversion that catches new riders out. Ive not ridden it for many years but with the newly installed re-track it gives me another chance to get on it in the future
the theme music definitely is a huge part of it, i remember my first time riding nemmy on a school trip to alton towers (my first time) and hearing that music walking into the station got some so pumped up!
Nemesis has now been closed for a major refurb next year. New track to make the ride less noisy. Wonder if it will still have the same frill when it reopens in 2024.
One of my all time favourite Rollercoasters.
Perfect Queue Design, iconic theming, spectacular music and the best layout of any Rollercoaster in the UK.
Every time I go to alton towers I forget how intense nemesis is. To this day I would say its still the best ride at the park (let down slightly by the removal of the red/pink waterfalls)
I love how at 4:21 the man is talking about how you don’t need to have the longest tallest fastest rollercoaster when someone is just going to top it next year but then a couple years later they make the smiler and that has the most inversions on a roller coaster 😂
A couple of years? Try 19. Also, the most inversion record isn't one that's topped all too often. Prior to the Smiler's 14 smashing the record in 2013, Colossus held it for 11 years, with 10.
Cat C I can’t wait for the new colossus ride at Flamingo land, can u??
A great video about a great ride. It’s one of those you never forget your first time on Nemesis. To be honest that ride is the only reason I visit the park from time to time
Nemesis is the best in the UK without a doubt. It's fast, forceful, smooth, well themed throughout the whole ride and Alton Towers would not be the park it is today without it. The tight ground clearance, the roaring track and the relentless pace, it's everything a good rollercoaster should be. It's a magnificent ride and I still love it just as much today.
Nemesis is an absolute classic, gives me a buzz every time! Same with Oblivion, such classic rides at Alton Towers that has stood the test of time.
I am having such a nostalgic time watching all these videos! I visited Thorpe park and Alton towers quite a lot through the 90’s and nemesis was my favourite ever ride
i'm sure you get this all the time, but your videos are so wonderful and stress relieving. You've made me fascinated with something I had little knowledge of. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much
CZcamsr: "The ride gathers constant complains about the noise it makes."
Me: "Alright, lets hear the sound it makes."
Man: "Many who visits ulton towers are brave. But to ride the thunderlooper, you have to be very brave."
Me: "I would complain too."
In John Wardley’s book he says that the theme is that the track are the tentacles of the monster and the supports are what is being used to pin down the monster.
Best roller coaster I have ever ridden - Nemesis. It pulls off the magic trick of being extremely intense but with virtually no discomfort. I have not been on any other roller coaster that could do this.
SHE IS REBORN!
I have been binge watching all your coaster docs lol they’re great! Keep it up! ☺️
I will always have amazing memories of nemesis and Alton towers, from staying at the hotel as a kid and going on it first thing in the morning back when it was new and then legging it back to have another go, to going again recently for my 39th birthday and feeling a bit more wobbly when I got off but still wanting another go and probably appreciating the whole experience even more, incredible how something can hold up for so long, can’t wait to go back there again
Hands down my fave coaster ever. It never fails to bring a smile to my face when I ride it. It was actually the first roller coaster I ever went on.
The routine excavation back story looks like when they dug up pazuzu from the start of the excorcist! Fantastic ride, one of the best I’ve been on
Hello There, a great episode, thank you for uncovering this story, it's much appreciated. Cheers Peter :)
Went to the park couple weeks back. It’s still the best ride there by a mile, only the smiler comes close. What was even better was that queue times were only 5 minutes because of newer rides, even for the front row. So good.
This is a brilliant video. Nemesis is easily my favourite coaster in the country! It's also my most ridden coaster (by far) but I somehow never get tired of it, and still get the same rush of euphoria each time I ride. It really is special, and I don't think I could bare to visit AT again if they ever removed it. A true masterpiece of design and engineering 👌
Great video. I remember riding nemesis the year it opened. It was exciting then and its still my favourite uk coaster
I've Been On Nemesis The Original Roller Coaster At Alton Towers Theme Park Back In August 2016 And It Was Super Awesome Fantastic Roller Coaster In The World. Thanks Expedition Theme Park Mate. X
The backstory of the Nemesis is very Eldritch/Lovecraftian.
One of my first big coasters! Yay for Nemesis 💖
I frickin love this rollercoaster, I rode it this year and it is legendary! The intense thrills, fantastic theming and unique track layout add up to a great experience that I would highly recommend.
Legendary name
Legendary theme music
Legendary coaster
Nemesis looks like such an amazing ride! I really hope to experience it one day... I bet without the intense height restrictions it wouldn't be nearly as good of a ride. When you have restrictions like that you're forced to be more creative, which you can clearly see from this coaster. Went to CP and Raptor is my second favorite coaster there (under SV of course.) B&M inverts are by far their most intense coasters and I always love riding them. Even just the Batman at SFGAm manages to be pretty intense.
I’ve got a not-so-fearsome Nemesis plushie. He’s small and has an eye on top of his head as well as a star eye and another round eye, a humanoid shape and he’s wearing a black onesie for some reason. A girl from the college group I went with bought a Nemesis themed teddy which is just a red bear
I remember riding this
the loop was amazing...
when u get to the top you feel weightless and motionless for a second
Can't wait to ride it again someday
That's such a spectacular backstory to avoid the confusion that so many roller coasters have with their metal tracks!
Took my two girls on this a few days ago - still thrilling and intense at 25 years old!
Nemesis is something of a master piece. From it’s location, landscaping to it’s intense and speedy layout throughout. Can’t see another U.K. coaster topping this for a long time.
Another great video, about an amazing Roller Coaster.
Has anyone noticed that the voiceover for the King Cobra coaster clip was done by the late Vincent Price?
I always find it interesting when I see a Shuttle Loop in another park. My local park still has the same Shuttle Loop and it carries so many memories for me. They had noise complains from it. They didn't remove it, they fully enclosed it inside a building, the ride is now done fully in the dark !
Wow, really selling me on the danger of the "Thunder Looper" with that voice. Now if it was a stand-up coaster I'd be terrified for my spine.
i love alton towers because of their awesome theming! my local park is Phantasialand in germany, which also love, but i love the more edgy and darker theming and lore of alton tower rides. coming to the UK (to birmingham) for a semester abroad in autumn and will definitely go to alton towers.
I went here for the first time the year this opened. The line was 2 and a half hours wait. At the time we'll worth it.
The best coaster in the UK? It's got to be Octonauts - I'm joking, Nemesis probably but I really enjoy the smiler
No. No. No. It's Flying Fish at Thorpe Park, duh!
Octonauts lmao
No it’s hero at Flamingo land dUuUuHhhh
WHAT ABOUT THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE LAND
Fantastic video
One of my all time faves - love it!! 😃
It’s still my favourite coaster to this day!
Awesome coaster. Got me back into rides going on this
I did the big one and nemesis on open year as a child and they are still my most favourable coasters. I miss that indoor ride next to oblivion, Alton Towers best theme park in the UK the cable car over the gardens and house really make for a spooky atmosphere.
Nemesis is ridiculously smooth. When I first rode it I couldn’t believe it could be that smooth after so many years of operation. Truly a marvellous ride with brilliant theming.
Next do (or at some point) The Smiler!
I will!
Expedition Theme Park YES! We belong to The Smiler...
Elijah Grimes no 🤦♂️
Jebus I already got a yes from the content creator. I’d say that’s a yes. What do you have against the Smiler? I know there was an accident but that was human error.
Elijah Grimes I have nothing against the smiler lol, I just think u saying ‘we belong to the smiler’ is a bit cringe 😂 calm down man
i dont know how true this is but inferno apparently has a small connecting storyline to nemesis where the monster makes a volcano erupt
Nemesis: Yesss, they're talking about me! Look, I know that the other coasters are great, but come on, be honest. They wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for me.
Oblivion: Ah yes, good old Nemesis. Back when Alton Towers was truly starting to get rid of that rubbish fairground image.
Air: Even today, it looks intimidating, doesn't it? The track is directly above your head, and those inversions are still as mind-bending as before!
Rita: When my ride came out, I was so high on the belief that I'd overtake Nemesis as the best ride on the park. I was wrong, Nemesis is still the best.
Th13teen: I remember walking by Nemesis on my first day here at the Towers. It's even better in person than it is online, I guarantee it.
Smiler: Oh yeah, I've seen Nemmy before. Let me tell you though, he doesn't have as much inversions as me. Still not a bad ride, but I'm just better.
Wicker Man: He's still the king. No matter what anybody else says, I still believe that Nemesis is the king. Don't @ me.
I'm waiting for Ol' Nemmy to reopen in 2024 to go to Alton!
I'm a new viewer but I love your content! Keep up the good work!
I've Might Go On The Nemesis Inferno Rollercoaster At Thorpe Park In Chersey Surrey Near London This Year. Thanks Mate. X
26 years old today! Convenient time to come back across this video!
Still awesome to this day 23 years old and still competes with the newer rides today sit back it’s fright time
Rode this coaster a few days ago , still awesome 20 years later 😀
One of my favourite rides!!
my favourite ride
One, if not the best, of the most amazing rollercoasters ever. Very lucky to have it in the UK, and age is only making it better
I'd give anything to have a chance to ride nemesis! Unfortunately, I'm stuck across the pond but, hopefully, one day perhaps? The coolest of all real terrain coasters for sure!☺
I remember going just after Nemesis opened so I would have been 7, my brother (then 4) was so scared he couldn’t even watch it 😂. Also does anyone else remember the Nemesis pop? Think it was liquorice and blackcurrant.
Ido and it was deffo liquorice and black currant.
I concur with The Smiler. Every time I meet a new coaster enthusiast, it's the first one I mention to them.
♥️♥️♥️I LOVE ALTON TOWERS! AND NEMESIS AND EVERYTHING ABOUT ALTON TOWERS!
I have never been to Alton towers, but I live 45 minutes away from six flags great America and Batman is awesome!
Nemesis IS the best
I love it and its amazing how good it is but old it is
Went on this the 1st year it was open.... remember que was about 3-4 hrs long but at the time was so worth it... classic
Nemesis was the second rollercoaster I ever went on, the first was runaway mine train, when the car got back in the station I got out of my seat and my knees didn’t function and I collapsed to the floor, my dad had to help me walk out
Oh lord this is going to be fun to ride, my first ever inverting coaster
Nemesis is by far the best rollercoaster I've ever been on and considering it's ago it so smooth.
