I owned a 1974 Renault 6 TS. It was a great little car, with bags of room in it, very comfortable, and I wish that Renault (or anyone) still produced cars like this. Inexpensive, simple to maintain, and fun - not like todays over priced, over engineered, mobile computers.

I had a white one when I was 17, a TL I think. I can honestly say I absolutely loved it back then and have great memories of it still. It had a party piece, now if I remember correctly, we use to sit with the parking brake on, the steering over to full lock, engage reverse and raise the clutch up and down repeatedly. This use to make all 4 corners of the car lift and drop in turn like it was on a futuristic fairground ride. Has anyone else ever seen or did this to their R6?

Back in those days you knew which country a car had come from just by looking at the mechanics and design! All French cars back then were just so French!

We had one when i was a kid RUP 769K. It was my mums and we roly-polyed everywhere in it. Laiden to the gills it took us on holiday to Scotland for 6 weeks in the summer. Fantastic ! We ran Renaults from 1965 to 1985 and my first car was a Renault 12.

Happy memories of being a 12-year-old and having to start mum's Renault 6 with the starting handle on a frozen morning when the battery couldn't do the job. You could ALWAYS get them started - a bit like an old Land Rover.

I (imagined) I needed a spare car as a teen in 1983 to fetch parts while replacing the destroyed motor of my 2cv.
I saw an R6 for sale for £30 with a 6-month MoT. Perfect!
Tugging the seat belt to free it, I pulled the entire lower mount from the totally rusted floor.
I gently patted everything back into place and walked away.
I noticed as I left that there was rust debris in the gutter beneath the B pillar.
The "spare car" idea died that day.

I watched this to see what I missed out on! In 1974 my dad bought the only brand new car he ever had. He was looking at either a Renault 6 or a Simca 1100. The Simca won, possibly because of its more conventional gearchange.

I owned two of these in my life at different times. Reliable and very solid. The problem was parts were hard to find because all the Japanese builds came and flooded the market.

Went to a car auction 1n 1983 with my dad as an 18 year old, we met his friend who said I'll sort you a car then proceeded to buy me a Renault 6 for 180 pound, I was gutted when I saw it and horrified with the column change gearstick but had more fun in that car than any other that includes my stags mgs and all sorts good times

I always preferred the 6 over the 4 - same with Citroen the Dyane was better than a 2CV

Le conducteur effectue tout le trajet starter à fond et coupe celui-ci au moment d'arrêter le moteur... Bizarre et inquiétant pour ce dernier.

I failed my first driving test in my Dad's Renault 6, I like to believe it was ALL its fault!!!!

That's very interesting that you should have mentioned 1978, Fuzz, as this was the car by which the pioneers of the schools' exchange between Belper High School and the Hindenburgsschule, Nienburg/Weser travelled in that year - actually my German teacher's car. There were just four of us, plus the teacher and his wife and very young daughter. I actually celebrated my seventeenth birthday in Nienburg, so it was quite a life event, being the first time I'd ever been abroad. I totally get what you mean by the 'wallowing feel' as that is firmly in my mind from that journey. Unless it was because the microphone didn't pick it up I was struck by the quietness of the engine for such a vintage vehicle.

Sacre bleu Monsieur Townshend ! These are rarer than Morris 1100's ! I think you need to stay away from Manor Park Classis's on 27th April ! Otherwise you will end up with far more than 7 cars !! 😂😂😂

Geez the French made some shitty cars.
I say this as a serial Renault owner. My dream car is the Citroen DS.
