    A not-so-standard unboxing this time; a keycap set! But quite an interesting one, I think. I quickly took the opportunity to look at these. Hope you enjoy the video! ^^

    "Crazing" is basically a thing in ceramics where you get that pattern. It happens when the glaze shrinks more than the actual clay during the cooling period. It's something that you want to avoid on anything you're going top put food on (because the tiny cracks are very hard to clean) but it DOES look pretty cool.

      On Cerakeys, the crazed pattern keycaps have a UV hardened coating that fills the cracks. On the some of the very early sets (V1), the cracks would fill up with finger gunk, and the cracks would become hard to see. On the new ones, because of this coating, it prevents dirt from going into the cracks

    Looking forward to the follow-up on this one! I almost purchased one of the last sets of the v1 in that same color but couldn't pull the trigger once the reviews started coming in. I really do hope these are more consistent and I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for your review!

    • @Bunnyisms

      The V1 were a real nightmare to use because the V1 had full ceramic stems. There were serious fitment issues because of that and they would chew up switch stems. The new version uses ABS stems instead, and the fitment is much better. It fixed all the problems that the V1 keycaps had. I have been typing on the V2 for the past 10 months, and they have been working very well.

  • @Kvantum
    @Kvantum Před 2 měsíci +7

    The switches are supposed to be for the spacebar since any normal spacebar switch is too weak for the Cerakey spacebar. I have the v1 set of these in black with white lettering. They're oddly addictive... assuming the stems are on straight. So cool and slick to the touch.

    Chryos! Glad to see that you actually had them coming in the first place!
    Few things to note for these keycaps though!
    1. The Cerakeys v1 actually had ceramic stems as well, but they had tolerance issues and would crack too easily.
    2. These v2s have PBT stems that's hand-glued to the keycaps, but the is alignment issues (especially for the stabilised keys) where the stems don't line up properly. The set I have turned out to only be compatible with some keyboard stabilisers due to tolerance issues (otherwise you press the key down and it just gets stuck down).
    3. Additionally, for the Crazed set (which is the colour you chose), the surface is noticeable thicker than the non-crazed sets, so there may be interference between some keys, especially if they're not lined up properly. This would result in a "ping" sound whenever the key is pressed or released.
    4. As others have pointed out, the Kailh BOX Dark Yellow included is for your larger keys since they are significantly heavier. Most switches will have spring weights too light to return these larger keys properly. From what I understand they have made the big keys thinner in a bid to reduce the weight of the keycap. However because they included a Kailh BOX switch instead of a normal non-BOX switch, the spring is completely incompatible, so you can't just swap the heavier springs into any switches you like.
    The compatibility isn't great at the moment. The sound is interesting, and personally I do like the smoother surface, though it does become sticky once you have sweaty hands.

    Looking forward to seeing your review and sound tests. 8bitdo seems like a good chassis, box navy thicker click bar may add some heft to it if anything it'll handle the heavier caps. Maybe clickiez too.

    • @Bunnyisms
      @Bunnyisms Před měsícem

      These are the improved version because the original V1 version did mangle switch stems because they used ceramic stems. They changed the V2 to use ABS stems instead of ceramic, and it fixed all the major issues. I used to have two V1 sets, and I now have multiple V2 sets. I got rid of my V1 sets. They were a real pain. I've been typing on the V2 sets for close to 10 months now. In fact I'm typing this on one of my V2 sets

    Interesting look, but I wonder how certain switches can respond to such heavy weights on top of them. These caps might certainly not work for all switches, specially that spacebar. And yes, then there's the sound. Looking forward to that.

  • @ThePrimaFacie
    @ThePrimaFacie Před 2 měsíci

    If reviewed later can I ask that you show how the weight affects the actuation of different switch springs? Maybe this could be shown via wootings "Touch" colour preset in the wootility. It might show how the activation is vrs different keycaps. Although it might also just be a hassle and be bunk sci. IDK but just thinking about like a 45 g linear key switch (or lighter) vs a heaver spring and or tactile. Could also be used for the metal too. These keycaps look amazing and the different colors are many and really vibrant. Its the new generation of fine China. Thanks for the vid. Have a great one.

    I wonder if (given their heft) they would pair well with 'heavy' switches? E.g. BKE redux extreme. I recall you found those way too heavy on the fingers, but I'm imagining that heavy keycaps such as these would counterbalance that. Maybe a more pronounced thock?

  • @FloorManiac
    @FloorManiac Před 2 měsíci

    One thing I have heard with this key material is that they require a switch with a stronger spring to compensate for the additional weight of the key. So it may be the reason for those "heavy" switches they added.
    Also, work on your focusing bro. I feel like I wasnt wearing my glasses whenever you tried to show us the keys. So I have a vague idea of what they look like. Cheers.

    I got to try those at a meetup last year. Felt like touching a toilet bowl while typing, it wasn't so nice.
    Sound wise I always found those super underwhelming and their kitting is pretty damn awful for something so expensive. Gateron had better kits with their own aluminium sets done in partnership with NovelKeys. Plus metal keycaps are far more interesting than ceramic ones in my opinion, even if the sound they produce can remain very dull overall.

    • @Bunnyisms
      @Bunnyisms Před měsícem

      They're currently struggling with making the ISO enter key. That's the reason why there is no ISO support. It tends to deform and warp seriously when it gets fired. They have had a lot of prototypes, but none that is good enough to produce. They're currently working on it, but it's some ways off. I suspect that they might need to use a different production method to make it
