Good video, but Frostadamus severely understates the difficulty of the underwater quests. The naga run away at low health and clip through the ship walls. Even if you're a druid with aquatic form, you're gonna bust your mana healing and shapeshifting in and out. Bring water breathing potions, absolute must. Even then, you could have a rough time. Looting the quest items for the collection quest is difficult without aggroing one or two naga, and if you die, have fun with that corpserun. Takes about five hours. The maps and logs in the sunken ships are easy to miss and the ships are densely packed with naga. You might have to google it to know where they are. As for the second quest in this video, the map looted off the Bloodsail ship: The mobs on these ships range from 43-45 and if you're 40 they will destroy you no prob. If you're a druid or rogue you can forget about stealthing because they will see straight through it and ruin your shit. So despite the quests being done by a lvl 40 rogue in this video, I would say wait until lvl 45 instead.
A couple more: On the southern shore of Stranglethorn, there are bottles buried in the sand. They have a chance to contain a message from Princess Poobah, who is held hostage by the ape King Mukla on the southernmost island, and then you can rescue her for a reward. This is a group quest, though. In the troll town of Shandra'alor in the Hinterlands, there's an Atal'ai exile hidden behind one of the temples, and he offers you a quest on the head of the final boss of the Sunken Temple. Horde are sent to Shandra'alor by a quest, but can still miss the exile, and Alliance might never find him at all. Pirates in Tanaris have a small chance to drop footlockers with moderate chances to drop pieces of a map (upper, middle and lower). Combine the three, and you get a map to Cuergo's gold; with it, you can follow its hint and travel to the southern shore to find the Inconspicuous Landmark (TM). Touch it, and five pirates surround you; from them you can loot Cuergo's key and open the chest for some green items, coin and strong rum. The best part is that the quest is repeatable, though the landmark does need to recharge before spawning more key-owning pirates; you can construct multiple maps, swim to the Landmark, get several chests one after another and swim in greens.
I think that one of the more obscure quest chains was the Sweet Amber chain from Grimbooze Thunderbrew in Westfall. It was a level 44 chain in a sparsely populated part of a level 10 zone and I am almost certain it was available to both horde and alliance. It would send you off to bring back several items like a sack of rye, without even telling you what continent, let alone zone, to start looking in.
That first quest was actually very good I thought. I missed it during Vanilla, but I noticed it on a private server and loved it. Was brutal if you're not a warlock or druid though.
I don't know if it counts as a secret quest, but you can hand in the trinket you get from sunken temple to the guy in the cave by the whelplings in swamp of sorrows for a short(and incomplete) quest chain.
I remember two very secret quests at Thandol Span, they were so hidden that barelynoone knew about them. One required you to jump across a brokem Bridge with a speedbuff and the other lies down in the water, a scroll in the hand of a dead dwarf. My mind was blown when i found out about them.
Excellent video, Frost! I hope that you will still continue to make videos about WoW Classic Era and not get *too* preoccupied with TBC Classic or WotLK Classic. 🤓
Talking about secret quests: do you know of the quest chain that's alliance only and starts at the bridge which goes from Arathi to Wetlands? It's in the water at a corpse which can be looted. I've played vanilla for years, thought I knew every quest but learned about this one just recently. If I remember correctly it's not even shown in addons like questie. It's called "Sully Balloo's Letter ".
Think i mised out on the first one not sure. Nice to see you still making videos. Helps my re-remember the epicness in the wait for clissic days once more.
I actually did the first quest! Back in those days I was between 9 and 11 years old, I was not very good with english and I didn't really understand the game. I would mostly just explore and do what I felt like doing. That quest chain thaught me the value of doing quests, as up untill that point I had mostly just ran dungeons and killed random mobs as I travelled the world. Levelling became much much faster after that.
I remember finding that ship when I was way over levelled and never knew the quests were there. This was before I started looking up thottbot when I got stuck. Nailed the riddle quest though. Clearly the 3rd chain was the rescue the robot escort quests that gave a pet at the end.
Hey Frost, You should check out the Foggy MacKreel secret quest in Arathi. He's a dwarf stuck in one of the broken pillars of the Thandol Span. You need slow fall or speed bonuses to reach him, and he gives you a timed quest to reach Southshore.
You missed a secret Alliance quest in Arathi. If you manage to jump into a room in the broken pillar of the Thandol Span (The bridge into Arathi from the Wetlands) you can start a small quest chain. IIRC back then it was quite difficult to make that jump without some sort of speed boost. Personally I think of that one as the hidden quest in Arathi as several flightpaths will take you close enough to Faldir's Cove to see there are NPC's there, so most people should know that there is something to explore there.
You should also pick up the chain for Gammerita. The alliance starts in the Feralas with In Search of Knowledge quest from Troyas Moonbreeze. It sends you all over the map and ends with taking a picture of the elite turtle.
My vote for the missing third secret quest chain would be the Captain Sanders treasure hunt in Westfall that starts with the map dropping from the murlocs.
I plan on doing all of these secret quests when classic launches, and I totally forgot that quest objectives you had to interact with didn't sparkle. Another thing I look forward to come classic release in 8 days^^
It seems like wastes of time these days, but from a game design standpoint, these cross continent quests introduce people to other zones. The game was big enough that you could get lost not knowing where to go once you've done with a zone, so these things send you all over to see the other zone levels. I mean, other people just looked it up online, but there should still be things in the game that guide you to your own leveled zones.
Stumbled onto Faldir's cove by accident did the quests and forgot about it for every other character I levelled. Just stumbled onto it again after jumping for the quest on the bridge, but wasn't high enough level at the time to get the quests. Would be cool if they stashed more things like these into the game.
The horde quest on the west side of duskwood almost all of my old vanilla friends back in the day didnt know that one existed i believe it was lvl 30 or 35 just a little lonely undead guy who gave a small little chain
CasualCreed Assassin’s Contract drops by the assassins. A town crier announces the event with no known trigger and then Southshore gets attacked by shadowy assassins.
did you grab the quest in ungoro? I remember it was in a lake somewhere around the south east part of ungoro by the dinos. it required a rather silly amount of traveling back and forth. If memory serves me right you had to go to winterspring, feralas, tanaris, back at the end to ungoro. I do remember that at the end you got a faded photograph of a character that looks like link. Yes, the traveling was a wee bit of a pain in the butt, but the amount of exp you got was rather nice :)
One more thing, this may not be a hidden quest, but it's one that gives a decent amount of exp. In booty bay, there's a quest for you to go to the hinterlands and get 10?? or so bottles of wine. this quest is amazingly easy if you're horde. Just fly to the pier, and all the bottles are around the horde's town there (If I recall this correctly, this quest was available at level 40,,, I could be wrong, so please forgive me)
I am sad to say that I explored and yet never discovered that cove until sometime in Wrath. I knew about the two on the bridge between Arathi and Wetlands.
yep good quests .. its so nice to see this and finally see how empty shell of game curent wow is compered on what it was originally ... whole game was adventure
There's too many unknown factors. There are many things that private servers had to make up, like boss armor pen values, "chance on hit" weapon procs, etc. How all of this data interacts will surely change BiS items from the past 10 years of private server theory-crafting.
hey man, i really enjoy your videos! do you think mage would be a good leveling character on private servers for a player with medium-low experience? and what server do you play on?

Do you think there might be quests in classic that were there at the time of it's release but no one has ever found?
The third quest chain is so secret that it can't be revealed in this video!
Wait. Was this a trick, Frost?
🤣🤣🤐
No, there's 2 chains at faldir's cove :P
saw your comment before I watched and thought you were joking lol
There was one that was two chains in one place

Gonna make sure to do these in Classic, thanks Frost.

The Zelda quest in Ungoro is also pretty hidden.

it's 2 quest chains, right?
Land Ho! -1
Sunken Treasure - 2
Cortello's Riddle - 3

Can’t believe I never knew of that pirate map bag quest! I played 2004-2006 and private servers on and off since 2012!
What about the quest for the Sprite Darter Hatchling pet?
Now that was a quest that was rare! And before pets were account wide.
oh you mean the alliance quest from feralas?
Noted!
I have played WoW since 2005, but I never knew about any of these quests.
You should do one about Sully Baloo's letter also, that's one of the least known questlines in vanilla.
:P
I might make a second part, right now need to focus on the leveling guides.
The assassins that randomly show up in Southshore. I camped for days to see that one.
