    Hi, I’m an American looking for a permanent home. I was in Chiang Mai, Thailand for 2 months and I been here in Malaysia for 5 weeks. I spent a month in Georgetown, Penang and now I’m in KL for a month. I’m staying in Bukit Bintang, which is walkable to KLCC and KL Tower.
    I like Malaysia better than Thailand because the infrastructure is much better. Thailand is still very much a cash society and few people other than vendors speak English.

    • @OlgaProGoingPlaces
      @OlgaProGoingPlaces  Před rokem +1

      I would say that Bangkok is similar in terms of infrastructure to Kuala Lumpur. But for a foreigner KL might be a bit easier to get used to, because of Latin script and locals speaking English.

    • @donaldkinsey5245
      @donaldkinsey5245 Před rokem +6

      @Olga Pro. Going places Bangkok is similar, but KL still has better infrastructure. I was surprised that even the department stores in Bangkok required cash. Also, the sidewalks were dreadful, and cable wires were everywhere. I had trouble using my American based credit card in Bangkok, so I purchased a Thai prepaid card. It didn't do much better.

      @@donaldkinsey5245 Also, KL is more family oriented. Bangkok is nice if you are young and you want to party a lot. KL is for somebody who is ready to settle down. Penamg is even more family oriented than KL. But I personally prefer KL.

    Melaka is one of my favourite places that I've visited in any country. Good vibe, great food, fascinating history. Being a UNESCO site it's also very clean.
    You were right not to trust the guy in central market. Anyone who doesn't take no for an answer the first time is throwing up a red flag. Most probably he was gonna ask you for money in return for taking the photo - that's a really common hustle in a lot of places.

    I grew up in KL and went to school around the Chinatown/KL Tower area and even then I was always cautious of my surroundings. Especially the Petaling St area. I'm not surprised if that guy was trying to steal from you. It was a scary area to be in for a school girl walking alone to get the bus. KL in general is safe but crimes do happen. anyhow, at the foot of the KL Tower there is a small reserve forest you can visit.

If he persists in harrassing you threaten to call security or the police. You wouldn't want a repeat of losing you phone like happened in Vietnam ! Good luck and stay safe ! 👍

    Nice video, pleasant way of talking, as relaxed as the city itself. :-) Bukit Bintang and KLCC is of course crowded and the traffic is horrendous, but it is worth visiting. In fact if you walk outside of the KLCC park, along Jalan Pinang, Kia Peng, Persiaran KLCC on a weekend morning, it is gorgeous. In between the high rise luxury condominiums and no traffic whatsoever, my favorite morning walk. My suggestion would be to visit the neighbourhoods, such as Bangsar (visit Telawi around Bangsar Village), Damansara Heights and Sri Hartamas and Mont Kiara, these are the more affluent neighbourhoods with tons of greenery, restaurants, bars, boutiques and it's way more relaxed than downtown. You get the Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborghinis as a bonus for free (to watch, not to drive). Enjoy, I am going to follow your adventures here in Malaysia, since I am a Dutch expat in Kuala Lumpur myself. ;-)

    They introduced a new visa called NOMAD visa, which is good for tourist like you who would like to live here longer-term.
    After getting this visa u can get a cheaper long term rental lease and won't search for airbnb costly places😄

It's very unfortunate that the nicest people can be victims of others that practice some type of crime or abuse... it seems like it's part of the way of the world - worse in some places than others (Japanese culture sounds like one of the most considerate - ?). Occasionally, it can be difficult to distinguish good people from bad. You have the proper attitude!... considering the situation, your surroundings, & what's at risk.
