  • Ukrainian police said on Friday (December 2) that they had stopped an attempt to remove street art by renowned artist Banksy from a wall in Ukraine's Kyiv region.
The image of a woman wearing a gas mask and carrying a fire extinguisher was on the wall of a burned-out damaged building.
Ukrainian police said they responded to a notification that the mural was being removed and found a group of people at the scene.
"The organiser is a young person, born in 1990 in Kyiv. He decided to dismantle and take away the drawing. Apparently, he thought that the building would be destroyed, demolished, and thus the drawing would be lost," said the Kyiv region police chief Andrii Nebytov.
He added that a criminal case had been opened and the removed artwork was being stored by police.
The Kyiv region towns where a number of Banksy artworks appeared in November had been occupied by Russia until April and were heavily damaged by fighting in the early days of Moscow's invasion of its neighbour. (Via REUTERS)
