  • What would I say to my younger self? I know I’ve made a bunch of mistakes in life but we’re here to talk about the ones that have had an impact on my anxiety.
In this video I talk about smoking weed, quitting jobs, medication, therapy, friends and family and sinking in the quicksand of anxiety. That's quite a lot considering it's one of the shortest videos I've ever done.
If anyone has a problem with my views in this one then please feel free to email me and we'll talk it through like normal human beings.

A good honest video that will help many people.
I would tell myself to toughen up, don't let my parents baby me, and to deal with, approach and overcome fear. My parents were overprotective and taught me to fear almost everything, I was t allowed to cross our street alone to go visit a friend until I was ten years old. I wasn't allowed to use a sharp knife until I was 12. Imagine being out in a restaurant at age 12 and having your parents cut your meat for you. The world was portrayed to me as a very dangerous place. No wonder I have depression, anxiety and agoraphobia. Imagine being 66 years old and having fear every time you cross a street without someone there to safeguard you. Also, I totally agree with Billy on having to do the work. If you want to get well. No one, no miracle drug, can face and overcome your fears but you. And it can be very hard. And take years. U have had this twice before, but my husband's (one at a time and none now) and my dad took care of me. I developed codependence on top of everything else. Now I am on my own and I am learning to deal with all sorts of troubles on my own. It is hard work, everyone, but if you don't do the work, therapy, exposures etc , not only will you bit get well but in addition your world will shrink and continue to do so. That will not lead to a happy ending.

If I could say something to my younger self it would be to remember that hard work takes discipline and patience. Results will not materialize if you do nothing and you won't necessarily see the results you want to see if you do put in the work. The only thing you can control is your actions.

I would like to SLAP my younger self for thinking people who claimed to have panic disorder were just big drama queens with maybe a few butterflies in their stomachs! Now I know what it's like... Pure hell!

I've had the lot! All the anxiety symptoms and I'm gay too - woo hoo! But I'm still a person! I actually feel great at the moment, thanks to Dr Claire Weekes. I'd like to think that my experience and encouragement counted for something too!
