    turned out great, awesome work man. saw this game at Dallas pinfest a few weeks ago and the flipper and pop bumper action was a dog due to lack of maintenance. now after this vid i would like to play again on one that's just been shopped seems way more entertaining

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah you know how it is, you have to get that stuff really strong to make it fun. Another thing I didn't mention in the video is, we always make ours more steep, if you look @ the beginning you can see the back leg levelers are almost all the way out. If the game is waxed and the flippers are strong, it can handle the angle and makes it play a lot better. Some games with saucers it doesn't like the slope but usually they manage to play faster.

    Notice how the Enterprise on the playfield is the original series Enterprise, which looks a little different from the movie Enterprise on the backglass (compare the engines). I think they kept the original playfield from the prototype but swapped out some of the plastics to get Ilia from the movie in there.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 4 lety +1

      I think you're right! There was an interesting little thing going on too with the game "Super Sonic"... if you go look at that one, it supposedly was going to be the original Star Trek design but they changed it around a little bit and made that one a Concorde Jet theme.... There's a big "S T" on the playfield on Super Sonic....
      And then to make it more interesting, Super Sonic was a redesign of "Star Ship".... which was a straight up Star Trek ripoff, complete with a fake Enterprise! Check it out here: www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=3498
      And you can kind of see what Bally was up to at the time....

    Hi Joe,
    may I ask what modern replacement transistors are for the "MCR106-1" and for the smaller transistors "2N2054" on the light board?
    For the solonoid board are the "TIP102"?
    I have bought now this 1979 Sar Trek Pinball and the pre owner did not fix all corrosions from the leaking battery, now I want to rework the complete lamp driver board.
    Some of the "MCR106-1" are heavy corroded and also on the PCB there is also this corrosion.
    So I decided now better do remove all transistors, clean that up, and seal the traces again. And as all old transistors are off the board, replacing them with new ones.
    Yesterday I fixed the burned connectors of the PSU with other used parts of my big bin :D (keeping old stuff pays out again) also added some washers to the rectifier. They are between the PCB and the frame, that acts like a heat sink, because the PCB was bent when the srews were tightened... (I will add a small fan to it later)
    There is still much work to do on the Pinball ... but step by step. Now the electronic part, then the mechanical.
    Even if it is very played, it has a good base to start on (my first pinball I own my self)
    (Have not yet upload pictures, will do this later)
    AND A BIG BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU for your videos, it makes it so much easier to find a start point to work on it, know where to keep an (or two) eye(s) on,...
    Thank you!! ;)

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi crapcbm!
      The MCR106-1 you can replace with NTE5455 .... or C106BG, or you can probably still get the MCR106's from BigDaddy-Enterprises.com (they sell pinball parts)....
      The smaller ones were originally 2n5060's, but you can replace them with 2n5064's, there's probably other stuff that will work but we've been able to find enough of those on ebay that it hasn't been an issue....
      On the solenoid board, yes Tip102 which are still available.
      Glad to hear you're saving one, we need more people like you willing to mess with them a little bit. Once you fix the stuff if you have any issues it's much easier to repair because you've already been completely through it!
      Thanks for watching, see you on the next video!

    • @crapcbm
      @crapcbm Před 4 lety

      Hi , thanks ;) I will look for these types ;)
      Yesterday I also found a lamp board used without any warranty, but has the right components on it, 15 bugs is a good price imo
      "because you've already been completely through it"
      that is correct! Then one knows it in- and outside (how we say).
      There is much work ... the playfield is like destroyed, the pre owner removed the (i forgot the word "mailard"?) protection sticker in the lower half of the playfield and complete removed the paint (he better watched your videos haha) then he repainted it somehow ... bad ... It is okay, but if one doesn't know how it has to be, it is okay...
      I have seen ebay 233371290433 but that's too much money in my opinion, and to much work (remove really everything, sand down the complete field, make a good surface, and no one knows how long this sticker will last ... and it will lose it's 40+ years old flair. The playfield will look to good then.
      I only want to restore it to save it like it is, do some small things here and there.
      I have also seen ebay 303336127471 sticker, but that was "ok" repainted. Like above, the surface must be smooth or it will peel off again... and make it more worse.
      Have ordered parts from flipperteile.com they arrived today, also had to buy a "inch hexagon socket wrench" for the screws for the flipper fingers
      I will use white silicone rubber rings, they say they last longer and make no dirt
      Oh, and ... repainting things ... I tried these color pens (like an Edding pen, but with real color. It works somehow. But colors don't match the pen cap ... damn ... I didn't think, that it will make it much more worse... now there is color in the places where the wood was shining thru. Now I will keep that like it is and wax wax wax it :D that should protect it for so long and but I don't clear coat it now. May be later I will find someone who is good in painting in detail and can fix some wrong and missing paintings. We have so many students here in Heidelberg, there must be one that needs some extra money :D
      My goal is now to do the neccesary things, fixing old issues so nothing bad will happen in the near future.
      Writing long story ... now it's time to go back to work in the pinball :D
      Cheers,
      Andy
      (i hope my english is ok and everything makes sense :D )

      if you like to see pictures: a68k.de/galerie/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85
      there is also a google translate link in the first post (hope it makes sense in the translation)
      Today I had the time to eventually upload the pictures, as I have to wait for more parts and it is good for my back bones, that was really too much the last days haha but if you have the "tunnel view" and only see the pinball machine, you don't care that much ...
      Now I try to get these drop-down-targets in star trek design :D
      These original round targets absolutly missmatch the Star Trek theme.

  • @AvengerII
    @AvengerII Před 3 lety +1

    Wow --
    This really is a hybrid artstyle-wise between the 1960s TV show and the 1979 movie!
    The uniforms on the backglass are more like the Movie but not final design. Kirk's head definitely looks more like Shatner 1966-1969 than Shatner 1979. The lighter hair color and hairstyle are dead giveaways.
    The Enterprise itself is mostly the 1979 design but the saucer is more like 1960s version and lacks the details added to the final 1979 revision of the ship.
    The playfield artstyle is completely at odds with the backlight/scoreboard art if you look too long. It's obviously influenced by the 1960s series and has almost nothing from the 1979. The giveaway is the copyright for the game -- 1978. The movie wasn't released until December 1979 and a LOT changed between the preliminary designs they gave Bally to work from and the final movie.
    Also, Q/A departments weren't a huge thing with studios so they give the licensee more leeway to design the game Bally's way as opposed to being dictated overly much by Paramount (the studio that owns Star Trek).
    I think the backlight prototype art (from what I saw in a photo) was nice but if you want to be authentic to original arcade the original scoreboard is what you'd keep.
    It's a decent pinball machine and collectible for hardcore Classic Star Trek fans.

      @SarahHadley162 Před rokem

      The game was originally released with a TOS-themed backglass but everyone got a Motion Picture "costume change" mid-production run. That's why it looks so odd. The original backglass looks great!

      Look at the tilt bob inside of it and see if it's touching the ring it hangs down inside of, if that's not it, there's a capacitor right there on the tilt bob that sometimes shorts together and causes that problem.
