I have observed that most historians who are not Asante agree with Asanteman on the Historical Facts.
That should tell you why Asanteman is what it is. They have a history! If you watched the proceedings at the Asanteman Council on the ruling on the Saakwa chieftaincy dispute and the genealogical facts stated by Asantehene, you will see the depth of information Asantes have. Mr Kwadwo Agyemang has really compiled historical facts that has given full credence by tracing all things with accuracy and narrating them in logical order from the Asante kingdom to Dormaa Ahenkro and to the borders of Ivory coast and beyond . Spectacular historian indeed . I myself , I am half Dormaa and half Asante so I do not care who beats who and who 🏃♂️ runs away but I care about factual history free from embellishments and distorted facts.
He is not biased for Asante or Dormaa. Very brilliant and consistent historian.

Mensah Bonsu waa the younger brother of Kwame Karikari, he became Asantehene after his brother Kwame Karikari was forced to abdicate after the Sagrenti War so he couldn't have been Asantehene at the time you are saying.
