  • This is a video that not just explores the Nikon Nikkor Z40mm F/2 lens (on the Nikon Z6ii), but also takes a look at Margam Park in South Wales. It is a hands on, honest review. I purchased the camera and lens out of my own money, and as always, opinions are my own.
The images can be seen in much better detail at onecameraonele...

Some killer shots. When I purchased my ZF I was originally only going to get the 28/2.8 but since you can get the 40 bundled with the camera for well under 300 US I grabbed it too. I like the size and weight a lot, as unlike a lot of folks I prefer plastic to metal for the most part, if the plastic is of sufficient quality. I still have tons of old lenses including Leica, Olympus OM, Zeiss ZF, etc and theyre beautiful but heavy for their size, and modern plastic is frankly much more durable. I find the focal length awkward (I was never much of a 35mm fan, either), so after taking it out the first time I was thinking about how to return it. Then I looked at the files and instantly changed my mind. I tried the 40mm out at f2.0 on my ZF and compared it some really nice legacy glass; I agree with your take more than the folks saying it's not sharp enough. It's comparable to a lot of the best 35 and 50mm lenses that have ever been made. It's only lenses made in the past decade or so that make it look less impressive. I doubt it would lose in a shoutout vs most older Leica summicrons on the same sensor. So between the image quality, good autofocus, but most importantly small size and light weight in combination with those things, I'm happy to have it, and if photos with it are sharp I'd expect it to be more likely to be a user issue than even getting a bad copy.

Thank you, yes, it's a great lens. I am really enjoying it and I'll be sharing a lot more with it soon, including portrait shoots and more.

I use my 40mm f2 on a Z7ii as a walking-around lens, especially for urban/street photos. It was a good choice. It is light, especially compared to my 24-70mm f2.8. $276.95 in the US.

It is light, and on the Z6ii with it's resolution, it makes a great 60mm prime too of course, perfect for portraits. Thank you for commenting.

I'm surprised at how much like 35mm it is. Perfect for everyday photography, and feels like a 50mm with portraits. So light, it's like I'm carrying my old Fuji with it on! 😂

If it gives you the value of both 35 and 50 primes then it's a good choice

Yes, I can see why it's becoming so popular. Very small and light too.

Hello My Friend :) Nice Photos !!! Luv My 40mm... I am an older person, who was a photo-journalist and linguist (for a hobby) Most of My Working Life... Here in USA the word Cheap has a connotation of "Something of low quality, Built badly".... I would never use Cheap in a sentence describing Nikon :) :) Nikon has Expensive and Inexpensive (low in price) products :) :) You can say things any way You like :) :) I wish You might slow Your Panning down a bit and hold it a little longer at the beginning and end a bit longer :) :) :) Please do not be unhappy with me about My Insanity,, and I will watch Your Videos anyway :) ( just tell me to Stop and I will ) (but life is a choice) This reminds me of a song God says to someone "Don't ask me what I think of you I might not give You the answer that You want me to"
