RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic Both died young. The only one of the three sisters that survived until her end of service was RMS Olympic (1911-1934). Britannic never saw service as a Ocean Liner due to the outbreak of ww1. Britannic's construction was near complete in 1914 when war broke out and her interiors were then striped during conversion into a hospital ship. She sank in 1916 when she struck a mine in the Aegean sea.

The wreck is located in the Abyssal plain ( 12,600 feet below sea level) which has low levels of oxygenated water. This slows down the usual processes of decay and prevents most marine organisms from being able to survive there ( ex: shipworm). The only major issue the wreck has is the iron consuming bacteria that is destroying the structure of the wreck. The whistle is made of bronze which is one of the longest lasting metals made by man .

These tests were done at fairly low pressure. They only had a shop compresser which could only hit about 150 PSI, but the whistles were designed to blow with more pressure than that. The public sounding, although still with compressed air and not steam, was done at her full operating pressure, so it was a much stronger blow that the crowds heard in 1999. However, these weaker tests are haunting and beautiful and sad. Like Titanic crying out, wanting to see the sun again.

I saw this video two years ago and felt nothing. I was listening for information, I was listening to hear what Titanic sounded like. In James Cameron's book about his 1997 film, he says he went on three dives to Titanic's wreck. He stated that it wasn't until the third dive that he let Titanic speak to him. And he said it made all the difference in the world. I watched this again today. I'm a high school boy. I'm at the age where I'm not supposed to feel anything. I feel no shame saying I cried hearing Titanic's voice. It is a powerful sound. But you can hear her dying. It's as if she gets weaker with each sounding, even though each is louder than the last, you can hear her struggle. Everyone, I beg of you: if you rewatch this, let Titanic in. It will make a world of difference.

It is beautiful to see everyone commenting about the Titanic like she's not just a ship, an object, but a person. An old friend. At the time, she symbolized human supremacy. Humans are capable of everything. If they are not capable of doing something today, they will be able to in the future.
Humans created a Queen of the ocean. She was such a beautiful ship. She still is today on her seabed. She is now the guardian of all wrecks that lay in oceans, as a reminder of all the suffering they went through on the day of their death.
She had a huge impact when she sank and revolutionized the world of navigation by installing better rules and precautions. Her death was not in vain.
She's still so important today. It is beautiful to see people still remembering her and being interested in her.
She symbolizes dreams, hopes, ambitions but also death, ice, pain and suffering. Life.
To hear her whistles again symbolizes rebirth.

In 1977, I got the book "A Night To Remember" and was fascinated with the Titanic ever since. When the Titanic display came to our town I saw the steam whistles, they were just within reach, so I reached up and touched them, making contact with a part of the ship after all those years was a great feeling and something I will always treasure.

Hearing this man refer to the sound of Titanic's whistles as a "dying sound, or a sound of anguish" really hit home with me. I have been in love with Titanic and her story for the last 34 years and I can never get enough, but the true story didn't really hit home any harder until he referred to the sound of her whistles having been blown almost 100 years later as the sound of dying.

Just imagine that it's April 10th, 1912 and the largest ship in the world is leaving port on her maiden voyage filled with passengers and crew. The quayside is PACKED with people and well-wishers waving. This beautiful man-made structure begins a life of her own and starts to nudge away from the quayside with the help of tugs. Everyone's waving, crying, laughing, smiling, and standing in awe as this beautiful ship sounds her gigantic whistles and she just looks absolutely majestic. She is the sign of her country's achievements, and everyone is proud of her. Then she sinks 4 days later with the loss of 1,503 souls and she is lost forever. The world mourns. Still such a sad story over 110 years later.
