BASICS OF RHYTHM FOR DANCING CASINO // "Salsa Cubana"

  • Can't find the beat? This video goes over basic exercises that will help you improve your rhythm and timing.
    Learning any dance is predicated on a student having a sense of timing, and it is much more difficult to pick up steps and figures if your mind and ear are trying to work how to pick up the rhythm on TOP of coordinating your body with it!
    Even in a beginner class, the person next to you could have been taking ballet, tap, and jazz for half their life where someone else could play musical instruments, and yet another person might have just LISTENED to a lot of music... either way, their EAR is trained (either actively or passively) to understand some basics of rhythm and music - this video will catch you up :)
    This video is geared towards Cuban dance, but the ear training is good for most anyone looking to improve their rhythm and sense of timing.

    LOVED THE INTRO!!! Especially the turquoise towel. Good one. I was too distracted after it. Lol. On a serious note, great video.

      Ha! Thanks... I think I said "edit"... the red numbers changing every beat was a nightmare, but hopefully a useful video for those who need a little help with rhythm.

    Thanks for the explanation! For some strange reason, the contratiempo beats are so hard for me to get.

    • @MessinaDance
      @MessinaDance  Před 5 lety +3

      I am curious if the exercises will help. If you can mark atiempo with your foot, maybe tapping your heel, and clapping the contra, that may work... since the heel is a lower pitch, you'll be marking all the beats but emphasizing the contratiempo
      one TWO three FOUR five SIX seven EIGHT.

      @@MessinaDance Your video helped a lot, but it seems still a bit of a challenge as the other beats just tend to overpower the contratiempo beats for me, especially when I am dancing.
      I can hear it when my teacher counts it out, but trying to isolate it by myself is hard. I probably just need more practice and exposure to get more familiar with it.
      Thanks for checking in! I was really surprised! I am using your videos to help me improve.

    I dont usually like videos, because I use Liked Videos to to be a list of videos that I wanna get back to later and I wanna keep the list short ( and I am a jerk lol ) - 48 secs into this video I still have no idea what he has to say but the way he delivered the video, the transitions I gotta give it to the man. You have my like, sir.

    You cannot teach soul or groove or flow. Its too complicated to explain why. You can get better at it. Let me say it again. You can improve at the simple pieces of timing. But if you can't feel the music in a way that is deep and soulful you never will.
