What if it doesn't become a .jar after extracting? It only stays a WinRar. I'd really like to get this to work for future plans sooner rather than later.
@@TheBlaziking666 having a similar issue. it extracts but there is no .jar file in the folders that get extracted.... it becomes a .class file in the folder for me.
@@thewfprofessor2914 Also started with that as an issue. Right click on the launcher and go to 'open with' and find java to change it. 64 bit is needed though...if it doesn't work tthere's a longer route to take to change what you're opening that with to java
I'm having an issue where I go to delete the update or current blocks but they are not there. I have no idea what I have done wrong. I have followed your entire video step by step but my game will not randomize. Is there any way oh great one you could help me?

I cannot use the randomizer I copied and pasted (dumped) my games into my computer but when I open them in the actual program. It shows the message
"The randomizer was not started via the launcher. You will not be able to randomize 3ds games."
Can you help?
@@fyypossmaalit9491 Do you have a 32bit installation of Java? Because 32bit can only handle up to 1Gb. Open up cmd and type "java -version". If it tells you something like "Java HotSpot(TM) 32-Bit Server VM", then you need to install a 64-bit version of Java.

Gave up on this so many months ago when only random and trainer pokemon ended up being randomized no matter how closely I followed instructions, looked it up on a whim today and turns out an easier method is out, thank you

To those who can‘t run the randomizer (I had the same problem):
- If there‘s no „titles“ Folder in Luma, simply create one
- Do NOT change the name of the folder where the randomizer is located. The folder‘s name consists of 16 numbers. As said in the video, I changed the name to „Pokémon Y Randomizer“ and I didn‘t work. So I tried it again without changing the folder‘s name and it worked for me

I have been playing through US, I def have to tweak a few things since I made double battle mode and all having 6 pokemon so I am way overleveled, but man, I am having so much fun, I am almost to the fire trial. This UPR not only is faster but saved a lot of space in my PC :D
For all those having issues with the game not randomizing when loading, I think I may have figured it out!
1) if your luma does not have a "titles" folder, go ahead and make one -- no caps or misspellings, it has to be "titles"
2) when saving your randomizer, the program will ask you to name this new game. name it whatever (because you will have to get rid of it later!!!). for example, say you name the randomizer "omega ruby randomizer". it will download to your computer under that name with all the patchwork inside.
3) open your "omega ruby randomizer" folder and in it should be another folder named some combination of 14 digits -- THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT. (if you opted to download a log too, the log should be in the same location)
4) take the 14 digit folder and move THAT one into "titles" folder of luma, NOT the "omega ruby randomizer" folder
5) follow the rest of the steps in the video and it should work! i noticed that this worked for me when the text boxes in the game's intro loaded almost instantly (i selected fastest text option in the randomizer set up)
I hope this helps. basically, the randomizing software adds an extra folder that acts as a barrier and confuses the 3DS when trying to patch the original game. if you take out that middleman it should be able to go from the "titles" folder to the "*14 digit*" folder instantly and patch your game. have fun!!

Finally got it to work, Couldn't get the newest version of the randomizer, be the update before that ran real nice and smooth. Thank God for this video. I have always been interested in playing X and Y again, but I have a hard time when things are not different on subsequent playthroughs, a randomizer does that perfectly for me. Took like 3 hours even with this video but it helped beyond belief despite that.
I love how all the comments are either people exlaiming that it works (letting me know I won't get a virus) and people explaining how to fix it if it didn't work. One of the most actual helpful comment sections I've seen in a while

This worked! Thanks a lot. Just a question though. I know that this is essentially a patch, but how can you revert your ROM to its original version (non-randomized)? I assume you just delete the patch file you transferred to your 3DS?
If you're curious, this 100% still works! I followed this guide, and modded alpha sapphire. And now my pkm evolve at every level, and the text for npc's is insanely fast now to increase the pace of the game! Highly recommended doing this if you're looking for something new!

@@terretro3623 I’m trying to randomize omega ruby, and when I put it into the universal randomizer it says it’s encrypted and to decrypt it to randomize it. I just don’t know how to decrypt it, been searching on reddit and stuff and I still can’t figure it out

Ok so anyone who can't find the titles folder in luma at 7:17 just make a folder named titles. Make sure the spelling is correct and there are no caps. The programming to find the file is still there but the folder is missing and if you don't add it and put the data in there it won't know where to look for the data.

This still did not work. Deleted update data and enabled game patching. What could I be doing wrong?
I tried to do this but all of the icons are grey and don't let me add a new folder. when I go into the properties to give myself ownership of the files there is no security tab. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?

Sooo just to clarify, can I have multiple randomisers in the "titles" folder for different games (i.e. X, Omega Ruby etc) just not for the same game or can I only have one randomiser in the titles folder full stop?
Finally an easy way to randomize
I didn't had a titles folder in my luma file, so I decided to just make one to see if it would work and put the layeredFS file in there and when I went to go see if the randomizer would work, it still has the regular starters. I haven't updated my Alpha Sapphire physical copy, already dumped it, and have the option for game patching for Luma3DS on, help?

Might be a bit late, but I had this problem too and solved it. I believe that you may have put the entire folder into /title/, when instead, go into the created folder and locate the folder with a big long string of numbers, should be the first folder you see when you open the folder you made, and put that folder in /title/ instead of the folder you named.

Will you do tutorials for other versions of this? For example the cxi and how not to delete update data and Citra?
I have the tutorial. So basically you extract the ROM as you noramally would. Then you open the ROM in the randomizer. Randomize whatever you want and then save it as a CXI. Then you'll find another folder in "downloads" (it's usually named "poke" something.) and then you'll put that in citra. And then bam!
the java file opens a black window for a seconde and closes again

IMPORTANT: You can not rename the LayeredFS file. The original name with the numbers is important for the way luma reads the file.

Mac m1/2 friendly mad quick through and works perfectly in 2023 one of the best guides , make sure you click the folder and find the number string I didn’t do that and was stuck for hours
ok soo here is something i found out i just tried ur method with the CXI file on pokemon Y but it did not work but then i tried the layeredFS on alppha sapphire and it did work soo not sure if CXI works or not or i just did some misstakes with the copying the wrong thing over too the SD card but thank u soo mutch for this video josh makes everyone happy

Hola, this tutorial is brilliant! And this tool has some fantastic extra features (notably the non-reversing mega forms option).
Question though - how can we randomize the updated versions of the games (say play a randomized game of Pokemon X V1.5)?
As I play on my 3ds, playing V0 of X isn't exactly an option with the multiple game-crashing bugs that are fixed by V1.5. You briefly said it's possible to randomize updated versions of the games, so how is that done? Currently, when starting the updated game on my 3ds with Luma's patching on, it immediately crashes.
Any idea how to fix this? Or when that video is released?

nevermind! I found the solution!

Basically, download the update as a .cia file from your 3ds using Godmode9, then with the universal randomizer ZX, open settings and apply update, then put the .cia file update, and all is good in the world!

So I put the randomized folder into my 3ds (Luma didn't have a titles folder so I made one) but the randomizer never took effect, it just went through the game normally. ( I knew it didn't take effect because I selected random starters). Did I do something wrong?

@@Lucidonius96 I think I might have found a solution (because it started working right after I posted my comment) if you have an already randomized folder, delete it and start again. When you get to Luma. Make sure you check everything that he has checked in the video and reset your game as soon as it boots up.

I do have a question… would it be possible to change the type of an existing Pokémon or create a custom version of that Pokémon? Because I have two things in mind, but they aren’t possible to my knowledge. But then again, I’ve honestly never done a randomizer before.

Note: godmode9 updated their interface. Here is the new way to dumping your game title.
Steps for dumping an Installed Title:
1. Press and hold (Start), and while holding (Start), power on your device. This will launch GodMode9
2. Press (Home) to bring up the action menu
3. Select “Title manager”
4. Select one of the following depending on the type of title you wish to dump
• User Installed Title: "[A:] SD CARD"
• System Title / DSiWare: "[1:] NAND / TWL"
5. Select the title you wish to dump
6. Select “Manage Title…”
7. Select “Build CIA (standard)”
8. Your installable ".cia" formatted file will be outputted to the "/gm9/out/" folder on your SD card
The randomizer says this rom isn’t supported. How do I fix this?
Although I have the latest version of Java, the icons of the downloaded .jar files are that from Winrar and not Java. Does anybody know what I do wrong or how I can launch the randomizer ?

@@jayreddy1323 If you haven't found the solution already. I got the files and tried opening them using the right mouse button and "open with...". After that I selected Java and checked a box that said something like use Java as standard program to open the file. My icons changed from Winrar to Java and I could use the files just like in the rest of the video.

After about 3 mins with a physical cartridge i didn’t see a progress bar at all. Did i do something wrong or do I need to wait longer?
So, I'm not even able to launch the randomizer itself. It gives me that "java is an invalid command" BS and I cannot get past it. I have java installed, double checked the version and it is 64 bit. What do I do???
IF YOU CAN'T OPEN THE ROM/GAME YOU DUMPED, HERE IS THE SOLUTION! If you happen to run into an issue where the randomizer wouldn't open the rom, you might have to rename the file. What I found to work best, is renaming it to the title of the game. For example, if you dumped the physical copy of pokemon Ultra Sun, type in the proper capital and lowercase format, Ultra Sun.3ds. if you dumped the digital version, it's the same, just the file extension will be different.
HERE IS THE FORMAT FOR THE GAMES:
Pokemon X
Pokemon Y
Omega Ruby
Alpha Sapphire
Pokemon Sun
Pokemon Moon
Ultra Sun
Ultra Moon
If X, Y, Sun, or Moon, don't work, then try removing pokemon.

@@Mochalotl_ Did you capitalize correctly? What does it do when you load the game? Give you an error? Constantly load? Sometimes people dump instead of decrypt the game. Remember you are supposed to decrypt the file to gm9 out.

My “luma” file didn’t have a “titles” file under it. I tried making a new folder and named it titles and this also didn’t work. Enabled game patching and deleted update data on the game. What could I be doing wrong?

@@qaugithaduck5771 i had the same problem and i rerandomised it and it worked, the only thing i changed was that instead of the randomiser file being named "Ultra Sun Rando" i just kept the name and redid the process, but sorry if that doesn't work.

I have the game, the emulator, the randomiser and Java all up to date
but everytime I load the randomizer it tells me that it wasnt opened with the Launcher so it cant load 3ds games.
Any ideas as to what is going wrong?

I think you need to put the files into a new folder. this worked for me at least, but still i dont know how to open 3ds games on it :/

@@12Arlind12 did you already try to open a 3ds game file? If you couldn't find it, look in the category "Downloads", mine was there. If you don't have any yet, I can can just tell you to download a Pokemon rom of your choice in the internet. There are many of them and it's completely legally! ;)

can anyone help me? I have downloaded Java and have downloaded the randomiser and extracted files. I can open the randomiser with the app (however will not let you randomise 3ds games as an error comes up). But when i open via the launcher I am greeted with a black box and white text saying "invalid maximum heap size" any help please?

Ok so the end bit is kinda confusing for me, so I use citra for emulating all my 3DS games and I don't have a sd card port for it, could someone help me out?
for Citra, just export as a .CXI and load that file into the emulator

@@knightro9235 after setting all your options in the randomizer, you can export the resulting ROM as a .cxi instead of LayeredFS files. Then just load that in the emulator.

Yoooooo fixed my issue. Big thing I didn’t notice was when doing the 3ds hack I didn’t do the correct version. I didn’t even get that step when clicking the link. Make sure you’re doing the correct version of ds. Hope that helps someone.
So can we not have multiple folders(one for ruby and another for sun) in titles or is it that we can't have folders for the same game?

Edit: I checked and if you want to do it on an emulator you have to do a CXI file.

Just make a cxi file then open it on citra it's simple. Hopefully it helped
Its very simple. After you randomized, choose the cxi option, and then, open rom with citra and done, it works!

As of July 15th 2022, I can confirm this still works but there are some changes when Going to dump files, When he asks you to press R+A, do it on the SYSNAND SD menu and select title manager or else it won't show titles! If you think I'm not clear comment so I can explain better haha!

I joined the citra discord and a guy sent me a file that basically just did what it said in the readme: "Try running "java -Xmx4096M -jar PokeRandoZX.jar" directly from the command line instead."

All contents have to be unzipped, and inside the same folder
I'm using Citra instead of a 3DS (since I no longer have one), but when I upload the rom (Ultra Moon) onto the randomizer, it's non-stop loading and doesn't stop unless I end the task. Is there anything I can do to make the infinite loading stop?
Edit 12/13/20: I finally got the Sun/Moon games to randomize. You just have to update Java and the randomizing program to their latest versions. I didn't even think of doing that xD

@@MisterAdept2169 I tried it and after opening it with the randomizer, it still won't load and it's been over 20 min. This only seems to happen to me with the Gen 7 games.
@@wulfgirl101 bruh same. Can randomize x and y perfectly fine but the second I pop in UltraSun/Moon to randomize I just get a spinning icon nonstop. A reply from uploaded would be nice since he seems to be able to randomize US/UM no problem.

so I followed the guide you linked in your bio and everything went well, but when i extracted the game from the cartrage and dumped it on my pc i ran into an issue, when i try to put the file in the randomizer it tells me : The ROM you loaded is not a clean, official ROM.
Randomizing ROM hacks or bad ROM dumps is not supported and may cause issues.
The cartrage doesent work anymore and apparently the file isnt clean either for some reason any way I can atleast save my copie of alpha saphire?

1) Download Universal Pokemon Randomizer ZX from the Github link in the description.
2) Open the zip file and double click on the jar file called ‘launcher’. If you do not open the program using the launcher program you will not be able to randomize 3DS games.
2.5 (depending on if you get an error or not)) If you get an error message when starting the launcher, check if you have java installed. Also, read the log file made when first started and the read me file. These files log the error and help you understand what the error means respectively. (When I installed this thing the error message I got had a link to their recommend version of java to use and when I installed it worked.)

@@SKB-and-PlasticFred BTW If you have winrar or some other program that extracts zip and rar files it may make your jar files extractable. If this happens you can change the program in the properties menu if you are on Windows machine.
@@hhoop3876 If you open not using the launcher can you still randomize ds games? I also am having trouble with the launcher because I have the latest java but it keeps giving me an error.

I haven’t done this yet, but I don’t think you keep the update data if you want to play the randomizer. Anyways, I’m pretty sure that you could always just reinstall the update from the eShop later after you’re done with the randomizer, or download a .cia file with the update and use FBI to download it onto your 3DS.
When i click r and press a it does not say search for titles what do i do ?

Because what happened with mine was I couldn’t open the launcher.jar, but I could open Randomizer.jar so I was using that
And it works for gen 6 and below, but gen 7 wasn’t working. I can’t seem to get a better version of Java, but I’m sure that’s the prob

Does this also work with NDS Games? I had no problems creating a Pokémon Y Randomizer and run it on my 3DS but it doesn‘t work with SoulSilver because when you try to save the randomized NDS Game it just creates a data and no folder (which is needed so it runs on the 3DS). Can somebody please help me?

Hello, I was just curious as to whether or not pokemon omega ruby has a national Pokedex option. I've been playing for a while and most to all the pokemon are not within the 3rd gen Pokedex. If there is nothing for this then it's fine. Thank you for the tutorial.
