Ponchos are so old school, but I do remember them. I don't know if I would like the extra volume being taken up in my pack or not? I like a minimalist approach and that is why ponchos were so popular back in the day. Maybe for car camping? The Honcho poncho having the insulation factor, seems like it would be nice for sitting around a campfire and the added warmth for the side not facing the fire.

Poncho is very good for when you hammock camping if your tarp is too short you can put it on top of the tarp to be an extension tarp or it can act as doors for your tarp, also it can be a hammock chair, gear sling and ground sheet:)

One of the most miserable nights I have ever spent was trying to use a Mylar emergency blanket in October after my sleeping bag got wet in the weather. I would be interested to see how you actually had your set up inside the tent? Did you get in the sleeping bag and throw the poncho over you and the bag, or did you get in the bag with the poncho on?

Robert, Something I don't understand: Is it illegal camping where you're camping? If it is, if you're trespassing, then perchance one day the owner of the land will see this video! If it's not illegal, and though I understand your need to leave no trace, I got the impression that both you and Lee weren't where you supposed to be.

It wasn’t designed to be a blanket and that newbie crap that you wasted your money on misses the point entirely but let me spell it out for you …….the blanket should be removed from the poncho for sleeping in under the supported poncho !

      my guy
go look up what an army poncho liner is
for the education of the people using this video for learning????
the poncho liner, ranger blanket or "woobie" was designed as a lightweight replacement for the wool blanket. its use is for hot weather climates to tie to your nylon waterproof poncho, snap it all together, and you get a polite little sleeping bag. in colder weather, you can put it inside your proper sleeping bag to increase its effectiveness and also act as a liner, keeping the sleeping bag cleaner and dryer.
more modern woobies have ways to be attached to the poncho in a manner that allows you to wear the whole ensemble, a makeshift "thermal poncho"
the thermarest "honcho poncho" was designed with similar intent, unironically probably for a more casual car camping sort of crowd crowd. its cozy, light, and convenient, but lacks proper warmth compared to serious sleep systems and overall is somewhat fragile. thermarest themselves describe it as for "Wear(ing) it while relaxing around camp before layering it with your sleeping system for extra warmth through the night."
it was never a high speed low drag ultralight traditional bushcraft mountain climbing arctic survival wunderwaffe
      its a blanket
      that you can wear
would i take it over my stinky heavier CAF surplus woobie? nah, but i can see why one might
is the poster above, whining about kilts, full of shit? without a doubt
