September 1 - The Falcon Season Started

  • The falcons started the attacks right on the first day of September. It will be an interesting autumn.
    Fortunately the hawks didn't join so it was much easier. When the hawks join at the loft level, things get really ugly. This was the first encounter with the falcon for the late bred young pigeons. Some of them only started to fly a few days ago. I still have a few to wean and then we are ready to embrace the autumn-winter season.

    That falcon,what a pride beast,flying high in the sky,trying to catch birds in a fair battle,not ambushing like a hawk ,not terrorising the dovecote like a hawk...he does nt need those because he is the fastest being on earth 💪

    I really liked when the falcon dove on the single pigeon that was up in the sky near the falcon. Falcon stoops and comes screaming down on the pigeon at the speed of sound then levels out on the pigeon and just at the last instant the pigeon jinks left and down and zooom falcon just goes right on by carrying too much energy. Healthy Racing Pigeons rule!!

I've had Cooper's here at my place in the Western U.S. for a few weeks now. It seems like everyone is reporting the same. I think this is going to be a pretty bad season for hawks and falcons everywhere.

    • @Pigeonmaniacom
      @Pigeonmaniacom  Před 2 lety +2

      The worst it can get is when the falcons chase at height and the escaping pigeons find 1-2 hawks waiting at the loft.

    • @kerbyjackson88
      @kerbyjackson88 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Pigeonmaniacom Definitely. During the tail end of last year's flying season, I had a kit get tag teamed by a pair of Peregrines and what I assumed were two of their offspring. The birds that made it down were then rushed over the loft tops by a pair of Coopers. That was an ugly day. Four birds lost and five cut up in less than five minutes. The rest of the kit scattered so widely that they over flew and came back one at a time over the next three days.

      My big youngsters have just finished the eye problem, it needs 7-10 days to cycle through all of the birds in the section, the more birds the longer it takes to spread and finish. The late bred youngsters from the video are with the mature birds and fortunately... no eye problem for now. But I am 100% sure it will popup soon, I expect it this month. Annoying. Russians have a saying - stuck like a bath leaf to the ass 😂
    Still, the falcon is rather weak in front of a low-flying flock. This position is ideal for a goshawk, in front of a hawk doves will not land so easily

    • @Pigeonmaniacom
      @Pigeonmaniacom  Před 2 lety +2

      It was pretty light with hawks in August, I must admit, I loved that. I'd rather have 2 falcons around than 1 hawk. This falcon wasn't really weak but rather not so hungry... when they are seriously hungry they get down after the pigeons in hawk style, I posted some videos like that in the past.

    • @Dimarik73rus
      @Dimarik73rus Před 2 lety +1

      @@Pigeonmaniacom That's right, on your channel I saw a very low falcon attack earlier. Also, a similar attack on the ground was filmed by Siberian pigeon breeders. But this is rare. an ordinary lazy pigeon sits down right at the moment of a falcon attack and stays alive, while a more capable pigeon tries to get away from the chase in the sky and dies. Landing while attacking a hawk is not so easy.
