Documenting the life of racing pigeons by the mountains, in Romania.
Pigeon strain goals:
- resistance to birds of prey
- disease resistance
- racing longevity
Living by the mountains, I started to document the natural selection and how it shapes the evolution of a pigeon colony in relationship with the birds of prey, the falcon and the hawk. The videos also document the development of my racing pigeons strain and might be useful for beginners. I'm not into pedigrees, auctions and complex racing schemes for maximum performance. I prefer a more relaxed natural method of racing.

Oldest Pigeon in My Loft - Ambasador is 20 Years Old
Ambassador is now 20 years old! The oldest pigeon in my loft. Here is Ambassador enjoying a meal at the "restaurant". I help him to feed in cold winter days because he can't compete with the younger pigeons anymore.

These are two of my old racers that retired. They've never been a couple so I thought it might be interesting to breed from them this year. It's a bit of compensation too, the male is very big and the female very small. What colors do you think they will produce? Hopefully not just chequers!

The falcon took one of my young birds and started to call the female. She wasn't around and the buzzard starts to chase the falcon to take the pigeon. The falcon carried the pigeon for more than 5 minutes. This is how strong it is. But the buzzard was able to get very close. The falcon saw how it's like to be chased by another raptor! Sometimes the falcon pushes the pigeons very high in the sky and then a long chase starts. The female falcon waits below them to attack the pigeons that try to escape. They arrive home split in small groups. This reminds me of the club races in summer. Sorry for the format, this was done for TT but I thought some of you might like to see it.
