conan teased him and jared had nothing so he put his hands on his shoulder. the power/dominance move comes in when he starts massaging, because tons of guests (men) have put their hands on him and he doesn't do anything. a pat on the knee, slap/punch to the shoulder/arm, etc, or even like the way conan touched jared's shoulder

His Joker design had atrocious tattoos. He was not scary. His scenes were mostly cut. Thankfully, Snyder Cut ditched those tattoos and gave him a Heath Ledger-influenced look.

yup. Goes to show just how great previous jokers were and of course Joachim Phoenixs also. Leto just came across as someone doing a really strange cosplay where as the others really brought the character to life.

@@mr.nobody9697 The reach around joke was his own touch of humor while at the same time showing the dynamic between him and Batman. They both need each other to justify themselves, especially in this world they find themselves in. A 5 minute scene showed the best portrayal of their history and dynamic that no other Batman and Joker combo has established in the other movies. Not even Heath and Bale pulled it off properly. And to be slightly controversial here, Heath's Joker is barely the Joker at heart at all. The movie comes off more as a terrorist who finds temporary enjoyment of toying with Batman trying to make him break his code and failed. Leto's Joker turned Batman into the last thing he swore he'd never be. That's the history and arc of Batman and Joker. 5 Minutes showed 5 movies worth of history with the tension displayed that we didn't even have to see ourselves to feel and the dark knight failed at showing even a fraction of that history or dynamic.
right formula? that movie was literally the embodiment of a bad formula. nothing can save that film
method acting.... as an old acting coach and improv coach used to tell me...... was the most amateur way to figure out a character. You basically live and breathe the character so you're not acting anymore....it tries create a more genuine product on screen.... so if your character is a psychopath you become psychopath.....Dustin Hoffman been famously needed to go through therapy for years to undue after method acting his role in Rainman. But my acting coach said and now I believe rings true...It's more impressive to see an actor switch immediately into acting and then back again to reality because then you're actually you know..... acting.
There’s a famous story in which Dustin Hoffman didn’t shower or sleep for 4 days while preparing for his role in Marathon Man.
When his co Star Sir Lawrence Olivier heard this he said “my dear boy, you should try ACTING. It is so much easier.”
I do not have a lot of respect for “method.” It is kind of a masculine pissing contest. You rarely hear about female actors doing this but I don’t think anyone can argue Jared Leto is a better actor than Meryl Streep just because Meryl doesn’t send used condoms to her co-stars or insist everyone call her by her character’s name. It is just an obnoxious thing done by insecure actors

I don’t believe Joaquin engaged in method acting when playing the Joker. There is footage of Phoenix on set of the Joker breaking character , talking as himself, which isn’t something that happens when one is method acting.

I really hate that Leto gets so much hate for this role. I enjoyed it. Both movies were ridiculous, which is perfect for a comic book movie.

It’s because he failed at the role and just tried to pretend like he was doing the role with all the over the top method bullshit which didn’t translate to screen at all..
He terrorised the actors on set, sent them used condoms, cut their hair, was totally rediculous, but it was never about the acting and never about the role..
Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a amazing actor, Oscar winner.. but he fell totally off the mark on joker..
Heath ledger also did the whole method thing with his joker, which people say ultimately led him to taking his own life.. but on set everyone loved him.. he was professional about.. not just some plastic homage to the idea..
Jack Nicholson will always be my favourite joker.. just look at the versions man, Joaquin Pheonix, amazing... jared tried to give himself notoriety, he was just dumb and gross in the end..

Not really. Jared is clearly a sensational actor, but David Ayer (the writer/director/producer) is a total amateur hack job. I lay all the blame at his feet.
@@FreakieFan His cut has 45 minutes worth of screen time for the Joker that everybody else wanted cut out of the movie. And even said that his idea for the Joker was supposed to be much more menacing with actual build.
He was a good joker. He was different but well thought and people are going way too hard on him for it. He was the joker as portrayed in quite a few comics editions, like an attractive edgy villain. The say I see it, his approach was to make an unrealistic egoistic movie villain that you would find cool and want to be like, similar to characters in Peaky Blinders. He just got no screentimr.
Much bigger problem is how Margot other than being one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, is the same in every role, including Harley.

This is one of the few modern Superhero movies I don’t physically own. Right from the start I could tell this was made because guardians of the galaxy had success and WB of course trying to catch up with Marvel went now let us do one.

@@fantommme @Fantomme The shameless pandering was the opposite of subtle. His gangster chic look with the awful tattoos should have never left the page. And his laugh was horrible. You have to get the laugh right if you play the Joker. Hamill and Ledger set the bar extremely high. Jack's version wasn't on their level, but I loved him too. I'm just a regular Joe, but I think I could do a more sinister laugh.
