Mr Banga talks usual matters that people already know. So far people not paying for Meter rent. But after Smart Meters ₹120 per month minimum amount will be collected from consumers , this may go on increasing year on year basis.
The crux matter of installing Smart Meter is introduction of Time of Day meter billing , so far we pay per unit charges uniform over billing period . After smart meter is installed the Electricity tariff cost based on time of usage will change, ie during morning evening peak hours charges may be double the normal rates . Electricity so far as a service will change into profitable business for corporates ,Smart meter going to facilitate this change faster.
As usual our People are not at all aware of the problems with smart meters.
Smart meter should be optional for consumers.
